Sheffiled United have made a £2.5m bid for Watford striker Darius Henderson, who is seen as an ideal replacement for Derby bound Rob Hulse. (News of the World)

So we spend way over the top on a player who isnt as good as hulse!

I hope this isnt true.

Skysports.com understands Sheffield United have agreed a fee with Watford for Darius Henderson.

Henderson has attracted interest from Cardiff, Birmingham and Wolves, but United have jumped to the head of the queue for the big striker by agreeing a deal with Watford.

Watford have given Henderson permission to open talks with United over a possible move to Bramall Lane.

Henderson scored 13 goals for Watford last season, but they have reluctantly decided to let the former Gillingham man leave Vicarage Road.

United boss Kevin Blackwell has moved for Henderson as he seeks a replacement for Derby-bound Rob Hulse and Henderson is expected to tie up his move to Yorkshire early next week.

Slight update from down south....

Darius Henderson is in Sheffield tonight holding talks with Blades boss Kevin Blackwell over a move to Bramall Lane.

Watford have accepted a bid of £2.25m for the striker and manager Aidy Boothroyd has relunctantly allowed the 27-year-old to discuss a move to Watford's Championship rivals.

Henderson is understood to want to stay at Vicarage Road while Boothroyd does not want to sell a player who scored 13 times last season.

However, Henderson has three years to run on a lucrative contract and Watford desperately need to cut costs and recoup money to balance the books.

Watford are still trying to resurrect Dan Shittu's move to Rangers while other sales are likely.

I've heard the fee is less than £2m (got to put a gloss on it for the hornets fan!)

Watford are skint and selling players quicker than a canoe paddler dissappears! He knows the games up there and wants out, they've told him his contract is beyond their means. He had the option of about 6 championship clubs, including the grunters!

The Blades have completed the signing of powerful striker Darius Henderson.

The Doncaster-born hitman put pen to paper on a four-year deal late on Tuesday afternoon. United have paid Watford £2m for his services, which could rise on criteria being met.

"I'm delighted to finally get Darius," said Kevin Blackwell. "I've tracked him for a while and he was number one in my mind to replace Rob Hulse. Darius knows what the Championship is about, he will fit straight into the Blades ethos."

Henderson, 26, has played a massive role in Watford's Championship and Premiership campaigns in recent seasons and lists Reading and Gillingham as his former clubs, as well as loan spells at Brighton and Swindon.

The Blades will be his first northern club and he said on Tuesday: "I was told a fee was agreed between the clubs and I was more than happy to come and speak to the manager. This is a great move for me, coming back home. I've met the lads and there is quality in abundance here."

My initial reaction was one of apathy but i can see the thinking behind it and there is no doubt that having a propper target man will prove useful next season. I'm sure the likes of Billy Sharp and Danny Webber are relishing the chance to play alongside him as they will no doubt benefit greatly from the many knock-downs and flick-ons.

Hopefully we will see the back of Shelton and the arrival of at least 2 new middies over the coming weeks to give us the squad that i think will be capable of challenging for automatic promotion.
