Are they still going, I know you could still buy the Flashing Blade from a couple of places a few years ago? They were both a good read, especially Flashing Blade. The match reports in Flashing Blade used to be a much better read than Tony Pritchett's in The Star.

Flashing Blade has roughly 2 more seasons left before it ceases publication (unless somebody willing to incur the costs takes over).
It's still available in the Cricketers for a quid.

How much, approximately, are its annual losses?

A few hundred quid, from memory. They are selling a couple of hundred of each issue now, down from a couple of thousand at its height.

They are always on the look out for new content.

Stopped buying Green Uns about 12 years ago. Stopped buying fanzines about 9 years ago. Stopped buying programmes about 4 years ago. Stopped buying newspapers in June. The internet has killed (or is killing) them all

*logs off*

FB is still going but, as others have said, it seems like it may not continue for too much longer.

I buy mine at Jumbo Records in Dirty Leeds city centre. They carry the very few surviving fanzines - 'The City Gent' (Bradford) and 'One F in Fulham' are a couple of the others clinging on.

Used to love the FB thought it had stopped being published. I sure I used to buy it from the newsagents on Shoreham Street.

Is my favourite article still running in it ?

'They Refused to play for Wednesday'

I think they were up to part 476 when I stopped buying it lol.

Still have a good few copies of the FB from the Basset era. Well remember the kerfuffle about some actor from Muswell Hill (Sean something, wonder what became of him;)) penning a cartoon about some wendies getting slaughtered by a certain M. Pike. Made the odd contribution myself too. Also remember my favourite cartoon (not the aforementioned one) of a certain D. Givens stepping up to take a penalty, sombrero on head and suitcase in each hand. "Things they never said" section always raised a titter or two as in "why don't you just **** off ref you cheating ****, you're a ****ing useless ****er!" - Gary Lineker:)

A couple of years ago I sold them for a season in the Sheaf and Golden Lion. I think I was off loading 40 an issue and they were going easy enough. I'm sure interest is there from Blades fans to buy FB, it's just a case of getting it out there for folks to buy.

I recall a Bassett-era one with a TV Times clipping making reference to a "Christopher Wilder" playing a deranged psychopath or something... quite a good role from what I've seen of him from then!

I thought it had ceased publication years ago. There were some brilliant cartoons and front covers in the early days. Does anyone remember the Genie in the Bottle three wishes cartoon after we beat Wendy? "Can Deano score through Chris Woods' legs?" Classic.

I have almost a full set until about 2007. I wrote for them regularly for a few years before that. Tried to resubscribe recently but they don't take electronic payment and I don't have a cheque book.

Was an auction lot of them last week at the Sheffield auction gallery. Issues 2 to 138 fetched about £25 plus commission. Wish I had bid on them. Would have been worth the read! (Never mind the memories)

Flashing Blade was a good quality fanzine; benefitting from being the only one, whereas most clubs had far too many. My favourite article was the 'Hitler was a Wednesdayite' written in AJP Taylor style. Can't remember all the points but they included:

He never attended a match at the Lane
He never denied being a Wednesday fan and
He instructed the Luftwaffe to bomb London, Coventry and Sheffield too (S2 get it?)

I can't provide further clarity because a few years ago when I was very late home from a night on the beers my wife (one of the kids was a few weeks old and hadn't slept since birth) cut up my collection with some scissors. Yes, it taught me a lesson (lock your valuables in the shed).

I still have a full set, though I haven't laid eyes on the early editions for years and I hope they are still in Revolution Snrs loft..

Also because Blades were 2nd top of the 1st division and Wendy were near the foot of the 2nd division when Hitler decided to invade Poland!
