pretty sure that was the game we went on the ponty end only about 200 blades but it was a pretty hairy night on there dingles had some rough uns on there that night we did well to get off unscathed
That was May 67 pal, like you said we had a rough time. Big battle at the station after the match, we had to stand our ground because there was no where else to run.

Don't know if you remember the big ginger Barnsley identical twins at the forefront of their mob? both had combat jackets on and nobody fancied a pop at them. You're right, Barnsley never came on the Shoreham, none of the local teams (except Wednesday) ever did.

no cant remember those 2 bur can remember a barnsley fan pulling a flick knife out wednesday always came on the shoreham and to this day make a big thing about taking it in a county cup final but none of our lot turned out that night never come remotely close to taking it in league or cup games and come badly unstuck on at least 3 occasions

The last football match in the League to be played on a Christmas Day

Blackpool 4 (Turner, Waddell, Charnley, Ball) Blackburn 2 (G. Jones, England)

My dad loved Xmas Day matches as he reckons the atmosphere was better than Boxing Day matches, many spectators would bring their cigar and smoke it during the match. He and his mates would walk from Dronfield to catch the tram to the Lane from Meadowhead. Our last Christmas Day match was the 2-1 win at Grimsby in 1958.

Blades 1 (B. Wagstaff) Spurs 3 (Jones 2, Saul)

It was the only match out of seven in the 1960s that Spurs won at our ground and they did it without Jimmy Greaves (who was sidelined from the team for three months due to Hepatitis) who had scored in each of the five games he played at the Lane.

1/1/1966

Blades 2 (Jones 2) Northampton 2 (Lines, Martin)

Our first home game that was shown on Match of the Day.

Keith Kettleborough's last game for us.

It was the last match before the demolition of the Bramall Lane End before the building of the Bramall Lane stand that was first opened in October 1966. My dad was a regular attendee at that end when he went to matches in the 1940s, 1950s and early to mid 1960s but I am not sure if he was at that Northampton match.

I believe it was in 1959 when it was against the rules to barge at the keeper when he is in possession of the ball (you may have seen footage of Bolton's Nat Lofthouse barging Man U's keeper Harry Gregg into the net in the 1958 FA Cup final) but the ref allowed Mick Jones' 2nd goal to stand after barging Northampton's keeper Norman Coe into the net.

Went to see The Pretty Things at the Esquire, all nighter on NYE 1965. It finished 6.AM NYD. Then we hitch-hiked to Mansfield ( for what reason I can't even imagine) Hitch-hiked back, then went to The Lane for the Northampton game. Seems we didn't need sleep at 14 years old.
