Everyone's got an opinion. Some ITK, some think they are, most not, smoke screens (my eyes are sore) and click bait (my right middle finger has developed RSI) everywhere. Journo's with contacts, writing articles based on conjecture and their own opinion and bias.

The old days were better.

The Green 'Un. Blades manager sacked on the back page. Two weeks of pro/ anti letters, read after trying to be first in the queue at the shop when the Star van rocks up and the newsagent cuts the string off the batch of brand new and still damp pages. Article read by the time you get home. Mike Yarwood, Cannon, Kojak then match of the Day, and a Sunday morning read. Maybe a mention on local news, full and proper article a day later by Tony Pritchett. Sausage, egg and chips for tea and a brew.

Few days later, back page of the Star has the new boss, scarf aloft, occasionally in natty head gear. Maybe a nice trilby, with a daring, Milk Tray man style polo neck jumper under a blazer.
'Huge club 'lots of history', queue Green 'Un article and two weeks of letters for and against, before everyone settled the F*** down and got interested in the fishing and bowls results for their local clubs.

The board talked to no one. We expected nothing. Bliss compared to the last week and can't wait for what comes next.

Yeah, I'm feeling nostalgic for a much better time.

UTB, whatever happens eh?

99% agree with this, but I do like how the modern way of communications enabled a very savvy Southgate to change the way the press dealt with England. Historically, the press were the only conduit of 'news' to the public, so if you didn't treat the press how they wanted, they would screw you. Southgate used the changing landscape to turn it on the press and say, 'report fairly and as a partnership, and you'll get the exclusive access. Try to fuck us and you'll get nothing and we will use other options'. Made a huge difference and became a case study for PR and media handling all over the world. It's regressing now with England and the FA, which is odd, as many businesses/sports followed that lead and are benefitting from it, as it's still a relevant strategy

Apols for boring reply
