"Nah, we've still got it over them"
"Why, they confirmed your relegation. You havent beaten them in 14 years"
"Bullshit, we smashed them 4-0 at our place"
"Wait, was that in the cup, I thought they beat you comfortably at Hillsborough?"
"Not this season"
"OH, so pretty recently though?"
"Yeah, yeah mate. Pretty recently"
"Was it on Sky? I can't believe I haven't seen this before"
"Erm, probably not. It was in the 3rd division"
"OH, so when you were both down there in 2012, with all that Ched Evans stuff?"
"Erm, no, not that time. The time before"
"When exactly was this?"
"1979"
"What did you say, 99?"
"Sigh, 1979"
"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Fuck me, they said you were all mental. I get it now"

Think everyone is missing the point here. The fact that the game was held on Boxing Day (which will never take place again, no Derbies will-the fixture computer wont allow it) gave the song it's 'credence' and 'wording'. what would a middle of the season 4-0 win by United over Wednesday on say the 27 November ever be called? the 'didnt have a name day' massacre? so,sorry to disappoint but this sad ancient pathetic little song will never be 'avenged'

It wasn't that actual event that gave us the song.

Spurs lost to Arsenal the same day and they started the song, so we just nicked it.

A year or so later, the deluded Massive picked it up, so of course, it's their song now. They think that they invented it and if pushed, will probably deny ever having heard of Spurs.
They'd also very muh like not to have heard of Arsenal too.
Altogether now....

"Andy, Andy, Andy, Linigan...."

Don't waste your time trying to understand the mentality of the average pig fan 99% of them are deranged and must live in a parallel universe, I mean at least one of them thinks they are a global presence 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
The only presence they have is that of a fart in a spacesuit

I can remember the song being sung on the kop the last home game (Southend) before Boxing Day.
Every time I hear it now my pal and I comment on how much we hate it.

It was billed by both sides as the BDM in the weeks leading upto the game..anyone remember us singing BDM chant in games leading up,to banana splits tune.
We were confident and top they were about 10th,we hadn't played each other since the 71 promotion year.
It was definitely a sliding doors moment in Sheffield football,we'd been the top team in the city right through the 70's and they were often playing in front of 7/8 thousand...it,s all a long time ago now,and not that relevant anymore.

Although no pig will ever admit to them playing in front of 7-8000

Arsenal won 1-0 so no massacre occurred presume 4-0 constitutes a massacre then and that no arsenal fan these days EVER refers to it?

In the 80s we had a few sub-10k gates, as most big clubs did. Football was about as popular as the Gary Glitter fan club is today.

But ours never went as low as theirs. They drew under 7k for a league game v Colchester in the 80's. Don't think ours fell below 8k but could be wrong. Not sure if we ever dropped below 10k in the 70's.

It doesn’t help that we sing about the BDM. Personally I’ve never understood why we as a fanbase sing about a defeat by them and it does endorse their view that it matters to us. We should just not bother. It was decades ago and to many United fans either a distant memory or something that they don’t even know about because they weren’t born.
It is a Blades song, instigated by us to sing that in spite of losing ....we will fight for ever more because of boxing day, why do they sing it when they won the f.....g game? Thick as mince, I was there btw aged 18, walked home to Mosborough, no way I was sharing a car with any of them after that

The game at Easter at Bramall Lane (finished 1-1) about 4 months after the Boxing Day game was on MotD. On it you can clearly hear the United fans singing the Hark now hear song (on a couple of occasions). Conversely, there is no Wendies singing it. Come to your own conclusions about which set of fans made up the song and who copied. Not that it really matters now. It was a third division match that we lost 4-0 nearly 50 years ago. I was probably playing Turbo Tops or with my Action Man at my Grandparents (God bless them) on the day. We lost 4-0 at Grimsby that May, and 5-2 at Colchester 2 years later in 81. Neither of those results matter now either.

He shut them up. 2-4 isn't 4-0
By the same token 4-0 isn’t 7-3.

Both teams had a big margin win at home over 2 generations ago.

It’s quite embarrassing that any club has to go back that far for some remote form of oneupmanship.

I think most United fans are more than happy with the current 4-0; 4 consecutive derby wins without reply.

But enough about them now. We have bigger fish to fry. This mid week will be very difficult. A very hard game and the likes of Wrexham with far easier games on paper.
