Ive been struggling to find a decent pub for the last few seasons. The Golden Lion is ok and the Sheaf is well... the sheaf! We used to start in the Cremorne and work our way down London road but the atmosphere has gone. The Crown is nothimg like it used to be, Pheasant/Barrys same. I stuck my head through the Barrel door pre Oxford game and spotted a few of the old faces and going to give that a try today. I like going into town doing the Bessemer/Graduate etc but sometimes can't be arsed, getting too old! Will London road ever be like it used to be? UTB

Clubhouse is my pre-match haunt. More out of habit than owt, but the beer is good and very reasonably priced.

The Bessemer...what a strange hell that is.

The one that used to be the Beer Engine is nice. And the Railway has been refurbed and is a great pub now.

We used to go in the Golden Lion. Great pub just got fed up with the fight to get served.
We go in the Crown Inn on Chesterfield Road, Heeley now. Great pub, nice ale and 20 min walk to mi seat :)

It's The Beer Engine. I go there every match, actually have a good selection of drinks.. Unlike the majority of pubs. It's a friendlier atmosphere than the others I've found as well.

Most of the pubs I used to go in on match day , even the ones in town have gone . :(
But I don't miss getting stopped by SYP and having my photo taken coming out of certain public houses on London Rd . ;)

Used to go in Fannys years ago was got sick of the bar flies who seemed to always have access to the bar exclusively! When I was a youngster the Matilda was always good. Also went in the globe early in the 00s.

Went in the Scholar for a spell but plastic pints and no seats was shit.

Rutland is now the boozer of choice as I sneak into middle age. Generally with brownie Maidenhead raul

Many years ago used to go in Norfolk arms bottom of Shoreham Street. Lot of good memories from those days. Later had a spell of going in Queens Road club. These days tends to be fannys with rest of donny lads.

I'll be in the Royal Standard most matchdays. Good price on the booze, always plenty of people, nice to mix with away supporters and a 5 minute walk from't ground.

Sheaf Island is Ok but started getting a few away fans now. Golden Lion today for me.

Oxford fans had been advised to use Sheaf Island, talking to a couple of them in the Tap and said that was where they'd been told to go

Cheers LS26BLADE

When you get to my age middle aged is almost a compliment.

The Rutland aint what it used to be though.

Choice and quality of ales and food both going down and prices going up.

The old management have moved on and I think that there is an air of complacency about the staff in the place these days.

When I first started watching United it was the Whetstone, which later became the Moorfoot.

When I started driving to games and taking my son I changed to the Royal Oak, later to become the Beer Engine as it was convenient for where I parked and a better environment for youngsters than the city centre.

Then came a period when we used to join the London Blades in The Pump, specifically chosen for Musical because he could get vegetarian gravy!

Had spells of going to the Sheldon, the Sheaf, The R&R, and the Golden Lion too. The latter was notably the boozer of choice for our great cup runs in 2003.

As mentioned above I'm now leaving middle aged for my pensioner years we seem to have settled on the Rutland but in my mind they are complacent and in the words of Bryan Ferry "nothing lasts for ever.

The Old Crown has very recently been taken over by the person who has the Rutland, Closed Shop. Not been in myself, and very early days, but it might be worth a look-in.

Saw one of those football factories things the other day with that muppet Dyer danny. Anyway the grunter on it was Duggie Pig before he forced to 'retire' and he said Wendy used to come and take The Pump which was a Blades stronghold. We used it very rarely only when passing from London Rd to town on a Friday night and you guys are the only other footy fans Ive ever heard use it. I am betting you never felt the force of Duggie pig and his rufty tufty mob ?

In the 90s it was the Hammer and Pincers followed by the beer engine. In the 00s it was the cremorne, now it's a bovril and a pie in my seat.
