If we had a Full Back who was equally good going forward as when defending,he'd be in the Prem...there isn't anyone at this level, most of them are decent with the ball and suspect without...Even the likes of Kyle Walker gets caught out of position.

He was better than Brayford last season and only lost his place to him because everyone at the club seemed so insistent on keeping him happy, and it was quite clear Brayford was going to be an automatic starter regardless, I'm not surprised Freeman felt a bit put out.

I don't think he's nearly as bad as people make out and suspect he will be a big improvement on Brayford who has basically engineered his own move away because he's 'unhappy again' like at Cardiff.

I've just defended the lad on another thread but wanted to see a general consensus of the guy. I know alot of people really don't like him but i'm not sure why? Was part of the 'nearly got promotion' team and contributed with goals and assists. Had abit of a diva moment when we tried to sign him permanently with wages but might of been his agent bumping it up? Fell out of favour with previous managers and played well by all accounts for Portsmouth so why not give him a good backing and maybe Wilder has improved his play? I say give him some backing and see what happens. Personally I think a 3-5-2 formation will work best with the team.
Kieron Freeman is a typical modern fullback. decent going forward and not that great when faced with a genuine pacey winger.

Not a patch on Brayford in full swing but probably better than the model we've seen since Nov 2015. On that basis we may improve with him in the team.

My only other concern with Freeman is I get the sense from some of the strange contract negotiation that he's not really settled yet. Hopefully he's grown up enough to realise the potential opportunity here at United and we get a fully committed season out of him

He didn't play well for Portsmouth. In fact he barely played at all. 3 starts he made and the Pompey fans were shitting themselves that Cook was going to buy him this summer. It was the most unsuccessful of all the loan spells our players went on last season

Also if anyone saw his performance for the u21s (or whatever the reserve team is called now) whilst the first team were getting ready for the Bolton game, you'll know full well why he was listed by Wilder

Roy don't come out with facts.
We have got that bad now, our own fans have started wearing " He's really crap but I'm clinging to the fact he can't actually be that crap" glasses.
He's not good enough if we want to get out of this division.
That is Promotion, he's good enough if some of you fancy another 4th division journey after all it has been 35 years.
But if you do fancy that journey just remember one thing while it was fun and enjoyable the 81/82 journey, we actually had a chairman with balls. Who went out and bought the best in that division in Edwards, Morris, Waugh and Porterfield.
Would you trust the guy in charge now to do that ?

A truly insipid player, that typifies the apathy that runs through the playing staff at SUFC. Strolls through games, half arsed, collects his pay check then repeats. There's a modicum of talent in there, but he'll be fucked if he can be arsed to use it.

If we are relying on him we're more bottom 2 than top 2 sadly

It might help if he's got a player who tracks back and defends properly in front of him. I remember him having JCL in front of him and Dani Alves would have struggled to look good with the help he got.

Brayford looked good with Flynn and Coady around him, two players who were prepared to defend properly, and H by his side. Freeman also looked good with those players. It's called 'playing as a team' something we seem to have forgotten about.

Don't disagree, so where was his help from Basham who has played RB before and playing the the position that should be able to drop back and cover. We have a lack of footballing IQ and an unwillingness to cover team mates.

Don't you say that about all of our players? No matter how shit they've been...

Foxy is alot more subtle than than the rest of us. It's in what he doesn't say you should look for.

Without knowing I would say he isn't a big fan of Long, for example if he pulled out a worldy Foxy would just call it a save. Whether you toe the party line or not you're always going to have your favourite and non favourite players

Long doesn't deserve the shit he gets... Sarcastic applause at 0-0 was ridiculous and embarrassing... However, I've always maintained that Willis was the better or the two and it's needed to at least take him out of the firing line until he improves or grows in stature/bravery.

Speaking of which... I thought it was a poor show from Billy not coming and publicly putting an arm round him in front of the Kop Tues.

I agree with you, Billy is not a captain. Last time I saw someone put an arm round a keeper after a mistake was Barry Robson. We need a clean slate and some young leaders

Indeed, and the key line for me is above.

It isn't personal about ANY player that pulls on the R&W - it's quite simple really...........are they good enough?

yes, they might be really lovely people - but are they good enough to get SUFC out of the third tier?
are they of a standard where our management team can make them lets says 30-40% better where other coaches have failed?

All, I ask is that if we sign a player, he is of a standard to make the team better - not worse.

IMO, I have seen players on NEW contracts that are worse than we had last season and the team is worse as a consequence.

Can our management team make Freeman better? I genuinely hope so - same goes for Hussey, Wilson, Reed, Scoogs and a few others.

The initial signs are just not that good - but as usual will wish everyone well.

We have a lack of footballing IQ and an unwillingness to cover team mates.

yes, agree totally.

We also have alack of ability to "show" for another player - some like to call it hiding.
There was one particular moment in Cm on Tuesday, 2nd half. Basham headed a ball with acres of space around him -where a player with football IQ would have taken it on his chest, taken a touch and looked up. It's why Coady was in a different class.
