Its a big club though. No where near as big as us, but still a big club and a massive step up from Northampton. If Wilder has a choice between Charlton or Bolton then its like do you want to go on holiday to Blackpool or Skeggy?!
Bolton are under new ownership though so they could be clueless twats but we don't know for sure. Charlton's owner is definitely a clueless twat.

Wasn't it just a matter of weeks ago that somebody suggested Wilder for the job here? If my memory serves me right the vast majorty said no, with quite a few at the time preferring adkins, funny how quickly we can change our minds, something you cannot do when youhave ro make the discision

Didn't Sunjihi allude to Wilder taking over from Adkins? Or have I got that wrong?

I can see why Wilder would leave Northampton. At the moment everything is rosey, but if they are bottom at Xmas, last season's championship will be long forgotten and he'll be in the dole queue.

He's better off getting a better job now in order to take advantage of his stock being on the rise because it won't be long before he'll be seen as a shit manager again and being touted for jobs in the conference.

He might not last after Christmas if he takes the Charlton job either. Seem to be run even worse than us (yes I know).

If Charlton appoint Wilder, they will go up next season. Absolutely no doubt about it.
That's it then. Still in May and weyre' all fighting for the runners up spot. ...........
Personally Bolton and Charlton are in such a mess they may need a transitional period before they can give it a go..... Let's hope it lasts 6 years like ours

He said "CW is the frontrunner" Someone else in here spoke to Chris Wilder recently saying Chris told him that he wouldnt want to work with our board!
Well, if I remember rightly, that's what someone who doesn't want Wilder to be United manager said. Of course, there could be no bias there...As far as I know, Sunjihi just gives out his information and doesn't really offer any opinions on anything.

Guys, this is Sheffield United we're talking about.

If Chris Wilder joins Charlton he will definitely get them up, having loaned Harry from Hull and pursuading Jamie Murphy to drop down a division.

If we sack Adkins and appoint Wilder, we will go down. With a record low points total.

This is how the footballing gods deal with us.

That club sounds like more of a mess than us, he'd be better off staying.

Football being football , Charlton are in such a mess as you say , Wilder I feel will not have as much pressure as he would at the Lane .

If he stops at Northampton and they struggle , and finish up near the bottom , he will get the sack .

To me move a sap. , get a. good 3 year deal , and a very tonking good compensation deal / clause . Win win for Wilder .

This league will be tough and wide open yet again , and the worry we have got , is that Adkins idea of tactics , player recruitment just does not work . Ok a league 1 with a boat load of shit teams , but also a boat load of quality individuals , mix them together and you have a chance with a good togetherness. We ain't got any of that and never will with Adkins .

Why not - if you cannot make a silk purse out of 40 odd pigs ears this season , what hope next season , when your recruitment leaves a lot to be desired.

It is worrying times at the Lane , more do than the hierarchy are letting on , with or without Adkins.

Pete , I have got to say yet again your logic is absolutely spot on. Like it and correct.

Why do you think he'll struggle at Northampton? In most cases the champions of L2 do quite well in L1.

Most clubs include clauses in their contracts regarding the amount of compensation payable, often known in the game as 'six month clauses' as that is the typical timeframe. That means the club pays out a maximum of six months wages in compo.

Other clubs just continue to pay monthly until the manager gets another job. I've heard some clubs don't actually pay and just say 'sue us', knowing that many managers won't sue them (this was two or three years ago I heard it so may have changed).

What we do, I have no idea but I doubt the Charlton contract will set Wilder up for life and could seriously damage his reputation.

He could take Northampton into play offs,he could win lge with Charlton,he could battle relegation with Charlton,he could win league with us,he could win play offs with us or could struggle with us.
This league is so unpredictable and a couple of good signings along with a injury free happy dressing room makes the difference as noted above.
Wilder is unknown in this league but his previous efforts have been good with fuck all of a budget.
Its a gamble.
Would i go for the gamble?
Absolutely

Not convinced about that. Their squad's a mess and is full of foreign players. Very different job to Oxford or Northampton in L2. Would rather not see him go there though.
Chris Wilder would be ill advised to go to Charlton; they have a manic Chairman with no idea on running and football and he put a girlie in as CEO and she is even worse in people and management skills. Between both of them they created the absolute mess Charlton are in and have alienated all the fans. The players are a mixed lot of refugees from failed clubs and waifs and strays. Chris Wilder would have his work cut out best at BL where as all fans know (except Adkins) what needs to be done on the playing side to get this great club SUFC moving upwards again and out of the doldrums

I agree that the CEO at Charlton is a fucking nut job. However, you seem to be making a correlation between sex and the ability to do a job?

The Sheffield United Effect. (We should patent that!)

He would also be sacked following said season, and disappear into the ether, never to be heard from again, putting a stop to a once potentially promising career.

Out of the managers since Warnock, none have gone on to achieve anything in management.

I can't think of any. (Clough aside who finished the Hasslebank job with burton.....despite even his best efforts of trying to aim them out of the automatic places and towards the play offs).

The monthly payment until a new job comes along is the norm.

The words of a club chairman.

Some people made similar comments about Wigan at the start of last season.
I don't know why with their fat £9M parachute payments, they were certs for promotion.

They still have another £9M next season but that won't go far in the Championship.

They have made some good signings this season, players like Morsey will do well in the Championship, I would expect them to be mid table comfortably.

Wish it was us that was speaking to CW. Just hope he doesn't do anything too hasty.

Sound like the perfect apprenticeship for the Blades job ;)

Ask yourself whats the respective budget to work with? Northampton were in real difficulty and whilst he did a great job he hasn't got a lot to work with in the future.

Charlton whilst an odd chairman (find me one that isn't) is a good club, albeit dysfunctional, right now. The fans will come round ( we always do) and as we saw this year this division really is rubbish. He will do well at Charlton with a few early wins.

Plus look at the human dimension..He lived in Kent as a lad before returning to Sheffield. He commutes to Northampton now and that's an awful journey, he is single again with London on his doorstep...

So, budget, crap league and personal reasons. Who wouldn't? Good luck Chris.

They were in turmoil, so you have to credit their rookie manager for turning it all around, and recruiting well. I predicted they'd struggle.

Did they really sign many players who were out of reach for SUFC? Did the parachute money make the difference, or just good stewardship?

Now were have I heard that before?

If he gets the Charlton gig and they fail... He gets some nice paid off and onto the next job.... Nice job footy management!
