I don't think it's the article itself, it's more the tweet of Cawley who might have inside knowledge of why it didn't happen. Here is hoping anyway

I read Cawley's tweets as doing the 2+2=5. Has an article on the Wilder to Charlton deal falling through which mentions United (though with no real backing), then goes on to say Adkins is packing his bags.

Maybe we're waiting for Wilder to accept before saying goodbye to Adkins

Should we fear them next season?
I just hope that whoever is in charge of what wreckage we have left, brings in enough to clear it away and we inflict further damage to those who are already in crisis.

I speak to a Bolton fan I know fairly regularly. They are stuck with players on contracts that make our big earners look like part-timers at Maccy D's. The new board have got a substantial mess to clear up, but they also have some good young players, if they can keep hold of Zac Clough they might do well. I'd fear them perhaps more than Charlton.

As for us, I fear it might get a bit worse before it gets better. We need to clear the clutter, no doubt about that. My concerns are the uncertainty over who the manager is going to be, and what sort of budget is he going to get. Something needs to be done though because the longer we stay in this division, the harder it's going to get and the bigger the debt the board have to deal with is going to get.

Wilder story being reported in't Star now.....why? Are they being mischievous per chance?

He ticks all the bladey bladeness boxes.

From sheffield, is a fan, cheap, former player and has won promotion before.

Once the shit hits the fan when he is in charge who will take the job on after him?

Not for me. Smacks of a Mickey Bladey-Blade Adams type of appointment. Plus, we still have a manager as I understand it.

To be fair, if Wilder is ambitious and is looking for a succesful season, the targets he has for League One at Notthampton might be just as applicable to SUFC. They've pissed the league, he's had time on his side to evaluate who would be good additions for a succesful League One campaign.

We don't have to pay over the odds just because we are a big club at this level. Plus he will know which players are too good to remain in League Two. Certainly more scope for imagination than Adkins' signing out of favour players from the league above.

I think the "do or die" approach to getting us up in one season prompts managers to go for experienced players from higher leagues. If a manager was told he would have time to get us playing well and constantly improving, we might see more inventive signings in terms of up and coming players.
