Two interesting articles about Wilder's former jobs.
Low budgets, boardroom strife, injury-wrecked seasons.
Some would say the ideal preparation for a job at the Lane.
Unfair to say he's had no success, he has, just not recently.

He wouldn't be my first choice but when options like Morgan, Dickov, Downes are being mentioned he's far from the worst.

The truth is that the man with the best CV and qualifications for the job won't be offered it.
Seven promotions including from this division. Experienced at all levels. Works well with a low budget. Local connections.

Why ,Adams never played for United , managed at a higher level ,whats the connection ?

It's just the 'United' connection….we've had a fill of managers with 'links' to the club….we need to move away from that in my opinion.

I guess whoever gets the job, needs to be backed. I just feel generally negative about anything United at the moment, I just can't see any light at the end of the tunnel!

You forgot the important stuff that rules him out with some, like liking himself, and not setting his teams up to pass the ball sideways endlessly.

I think he's probably hanging on for 'One last crack at the premiership' anyway, probably with Man Utd knowing his ego.

He might actually avoid relegation from the Prem at the first time of asking. That would be a first.

Van Persie and Luton Shelton up front?

Surely McCall played for us and therefore Pinchy will have to hate him ,'McCawful' there Ive done it for you. Who gives 2 shits whether these guys have played for Utd or not ,you are so full of contradictions. McCall failed at Bradford ,arguably a worse job than Wilder has done ,he has less experience ,was a better player ,so was Robson. Has managed in the micky mouse one team league that is the SPL ,Murphy should highlight the standards in that league. So tell me what has McCall got over Wilder ?

As an aside ,I will get behind whoever we appoint ,I would love Coyle ,as long as it isnt Blackwell or Megson.

We agree on something for once. Coyle would be my pick on a "best of a bad bunch' assessment. The only problem is, I'm struggling for a nickname. Can you help?

Coyle will wait it out til a championship club sacks their manger, either in the close season or early in the next season. I wouldn't be surprised if he rocks up at Middlesbrough, should Mowbray start the next season like he finished this one.

May be meaningless but Karl Robinson odds just cut significantly to 8/1.

I'd take him, without hesitation. I'd want less touchline histrionics, though. Arms folded, please.

A mate of mine ,liverpool fan said to me after the game against Yeovil ,Robinson will be your manager. Not a bad word about us and had it written all over him he reckons.

Nickname "Semi-Pro Robbo"?

i (holy wtf batman?!?) agree with sitters too, id love coyle.

not saying he would be a success, i dont honestly believe anybody will get us up with mccabe pulling the strings, but it would show a decent amount of ambition for once. realistically hes about as good as were gonna get.

as much as im not remotely convinced with mccall, the utter crap weve been linked with id now be reasonably happy if he got the job. he knows murphy (and god forbid we keep him, porter - i think mccall was manager when he played, if im wrong ignore that!) and if he wanted to bring a few players across we could probably get them for next to nowt judging how much they let us have murphs for. plus he wouldnt come here unless he was sure we would let him sign players.

when i say sign players, i know were skint. i dont mean ronaldo or messi, i just mean sign players. free transfers, free agents, small fees etc. that will be good enough for me. i dont expect mccabe to splash the cash, just hire a proper manager and let him sign players!

id take coyle, mccall, robinson, parkinson, even saunders or martin allen at a push.

please god not morgan, wilder, downes, southgate, dickov or any other random muppet mccabe can pull out of his ass

His Oxford record isn't that bad...
  • Played: 235
  • Won: 106
  • Drawn 59
  • Lost: 70
Still would prefer someone like McCall

oxford have been one of the favourites to win league two the last 3 seasons, not even made the play offs in any of em. now i know being one of the favs doesnjt necessarily equate to having the players to do it (see us this year!) but its not exactly inspiring is it?

w/d/l records are largely irrelevant surely. youd have a much better "record" managing man utd to 8th every year than managing wigan to 14th...

he's only got a decent record cos hes managing a team who are expected to challenge for promotion and they dont achieve it. if he had actually got them promoted, he'd probably have a worse w/d/l record due to them losing more games in the division higher!

Whoever comes in is on a hiding to nothing for at least 1 year unless KM allows him to pay off the high earning Deadwood (DOYLE etc). However if they came out and said the first season will be one of rebuilding then ie waiting for contracts to expire etc then most fans would accept this.

Lets face facts Fergie wouldnt be able to get what we have currently promoted.

Owan Koyle.

No? Sorry.

Wouldn't be against that, especially if he brought Bowditch with him.

I think Robinson has been after the job for over a year now. He was the same in last years playoffs. Decent shout in my opinion.

If he really IS after the job, why the hell don't we just give it to him?
46% win record. Knows the division very well. Attractive style of play.
He ticks most of my boxes and he might be ready for a new challenge / bigger club.

Plus I put a £1 on him at 28-1

Don't get it with Robinson.

MK Dons were arguably the biggest failures in the division last season - haven't checked but I bet not many sides finished as many places below where the bookies had them in the betting as they did. Their chairman said 'promotion or bust' and they never even really troubled the play-off spots.

Their football seems like a bit of a cross between Captain Drunk's and the 2012/13 version of Danny Wilson's. Everyone too deep, passing for the sake of passing in the wrong areas and lacking in goal threat.

Main positive I can think of is that pig fans hate him.

Not many of the names linked so far excite me but I'd have Robinson a fair way down a shambles of a list.

I don't follow it closely, but I think they had horrendous injury problems with their main players.

They ended up only 5 points behind us, though. It's impossible to argue against anything other than us being the division's biggest failures, as far as I'm concerned.
