Silly mistake for their goal BUT I do think City would have got a goal in injury time anyway.
yes i agree i very much doubt we would have kept them out even though larrouchi should have put that ball in st marys graveyard 1 - 2 against the best team in europe isnt a bad result imo and keeps the goal difference down mind real pressure on the everton game now i think even this early in the season its a must win game for me

I wasn't asking George to put a challenge on Grealish. Throughout the whole match (and at Wembley) George had shown discipline and concentration to 'stand' on Grealish's left foot. Grealish is quite ineffective with his right. One lapse and Grealsih finds himself at the bye line with the ball on his left foot.

Could more have been done by our centre backs against Haaland? That's another question.
Egan did his usual and passed him off to the next available man while he ball watched
Robinson inexplicably switched off after initially being goal side and that was that

Why Egan seems to eleviate himself of responsibility in these situations is beyond me but it happens a lot

I'd also like to know why the left wing back has to cover a huge area between robbo and the left midfielder when defending often having to tuck in and then get out to the wide man several times in a short period of play with no cover man

I suspect this is also because Egan has instructed robbo to do his job while he goes walkabout

So you're a fan of Egan then.

Positionily he's shocking, he gave the ball away numerous times when it was a simple 2 yrd pass every header he jumps under the ball and heads it straight in the air. Falling over your own feet isn't a mistake is just fucking piss poor. He may probably will get better 🤞 but never going to be good enough for the top league, we have big problems at LWB until RND comes back. He is just a loose cannon that we could do without!

Edit: better going forward than defensively

He played fine today outside of the one incident of note. I get why he was trying to shepherd the ball out, as just hoofing it anywhere does not particularly help, but once he sees he can't win the throw he has to deal with it. It's incredibly unfortunate but he'll learn from it

He frustrates me
I'm not going to overly criticise Egan but I agree that he loves a point to a teammate ('Your man') rather than taking control of situations himself. He's a bit passive. Personally I reckon you'd like your centre half (certainly if he's captain) to show a bit more aggression and taking a bit more responsibility to set the tone for the team. I'd make George Baldock skipper as soon as I could.

So shepherding the ball out as opposed to just hoofing it doesn't help? So from the resulting throwing that we could have won please explain what we would have done other than throw it to a player to hoof down the line to waste a bit more time which he could have done any way rather than falling over his own feet? Genuine question mate what would winning the throwing done differently as appose to what he could've done?

If you can't work out how us having the throw in as opposed to City having the throw in might be beneficial then you're beyond help

Given Haaland’s position when the ball came in it was absolutely correct for Robinson to be marking him. If Egan had moved to mark him he’d have been stood on Robinson’s toes.

When the ball came in yes
That's because Egan passed him on before that

What??

He's shepherding a ball out that would have been our throw am i wrong? We would have taken the throwing and then tried to sling it long without city winning it back which they are the best at winning the ball back with a high press.

If he didn't shepard the ball out but Sent it long down the line with Kyle walker out of position it then goes for a city throw deep in there own half or Ederson comes to collect the ball and they recycle possession but deep in there own half which gives us time to get back into our defensive structure.

I'd take the second scenario rather than falling over your own feet. If u don't realise that then it's you that belong help.

We are Sheffield United, we can’t afford to buy ready made players like Walker. Lad is stepping up to the toughest league in the world. All our players are going to make mistakes and cost us goals. If we chuck em all under ‘t bus we’ll have no one left.

Get real we were playing Manchester City probably the best team in the world at the moment with a wingback with incredible speed and strength. He made a mistake, should have put it in Jon Street. I’ll judge him on if he learnt from it

We need to back our players not destroy them after 2 half appearances.
Well said. Was going to point out the obvious - he was up against a player that, collectively, we've been salivating at the prospect of having him back for years and for 70+(?) mins, he managed to contain that threat. Credit where it's due.

I’m not really sure of the relevance of that, maybe I’m missing something.

When the ball comes in Egan is exactly where you’d want him, Robinson is exactly where you’d want him and Haaland is just behind Robinson. It’s Robinson who should be marking him in that instance. Passing players on is a sign of good organisation.

Frank the tank tagging you mate because quote function doesn’t seem to be working

Yeah you're missing something
All the things I explained to you earlier
Watch it again objectively and get back to me

All you’ve said to me is that Egan passed him on before the ball came in. Given Haaland’s movement and the fact that Robinson should’ve been marking him I’m still not sure what the issue is.

Surely it’s a good thing that Egan tried to get things organised early?

he’s young and inexperienced and still has a lot to learn. That doesnt mean he won’t go on to be a great signing for United in the years to come.

He does not look as shit as he did in pre-season.
I have rarely seen a professional player look that bad! That fake player Southampton signed levels in pre season! He's got better for sure but that's from a very very very low level!

Not much point explaining it again if you aren't prepared to at least try and understand

I’m trying, honestly. I’ve said I’m probably just missing your point. As I see it though, when the ball comes in Robinson should be marking Haaland, the fact that Egan ‘passed him on’ 30 seconds earlier is irrelevant in my view, it’s like saying he passed him on when the ball was on the half way line. Egan ‘passing him on’ is good organisation.

Which bit do you disagree with?

He's the captain and should be taking responsibility either by helping Robinson or dealing with haaland himself

That was the whole point of my post that he does this all the time and it frustrates me

You obviously missed that bit of the thread

No I saw that bit and it honestly makes no sense.

Both Egan and Robinson are positioned exactly where they should be. How would you expect Egan to deal with Haaland himself considering he’s behind Robinson?

The reality is a good captain, like Egan, trusts his fellow professional and doesn’t feel the need to go and hold his hand.

Is this a fucking joke I don't get ?
What the fuck are you talking about ?
Can't believe I've wasted this much time actually debating this with you when you are clearly on the wind up

Why would it be a wind up?

I’ve explained that situation as I see it. So far you’ve not actually disagreed with anything I’ve said. You just keep saying things like “Egan should take responsibility”, “he should help Robinson”, which doesn’t actually mean anything.

If you’re saying he should have man marked Haaland and followed him to the back post then fair enough, that would’ve required Robinson to step inside and cover the central position however. As I say though, that makes no sense and it’s a difficult switch to pull off in such a short space of time

your an idiot

I don't think Egan or Robinson are up to this level but ultimately the best striker in the world scored from a superb cross from a £100 million winger.
