In response to Ryan stating that he didn't think Blades would give SoD time, heres the poll! :D

I think Ryan just said that we wouldn't give him time. I'm just asking if we would ;)

Although I can see Ryan's point this is a few times now that I think he has pushed it too far. Comments like Sheff Utd fans won't give him time should be left for his private conversations.

Don't mind Ryan raising the issue of time, it just puts it in fans' minds as something that's needed if he comes.

Who are the three Donny fans who have joined the forum just to vote on this? ;)

Our earlier poll shows that SOD has a huge majority over any other candidate. It's not scientifically accurate but it mirrors what I'm hearing from fellow Unitedites.

A lot of us are crying out for a new ethos; a change of style. We want Beautiful Blades as well as Battling Blades. That's why publc opinion turned so decisively against Blackwell.

We are not fools. We know it will take time. It could be a long haul with SOD. We know that, but most of us are quite sure the end results [attractive and effective football] will more than reward our patience. Ryan [and I don't blame him] is playing every card in his hand. He's trying to scare SOD to stay in his small town, cosy comfort blanket. I'm sure, however, that for an intelligent, shrewd but ambitious manager, the choice, ultimately, is very simple and we shall see SOD at BDTBL in the near future.

I do hope as many of us as possible will sign up to this. It might just get noticed. Those of you who are so inclined might want to telephone Radio Sheffield  with a similar message.

SOD ON!

For pity's sake, I said I'd give Robbo until we hit the relegation zone before sacking him... SO'D would get a decade off me.

We know, Donny come early January in a league fixture published last June I fink

And if we are all buying into this patience / experimental thing, there are 2 things McCabe can do.

Behave with his Season Ticket prices, and erect signs in the Car Park prohibiting Bare Feet.

We wern`t in the Relegation Zone when Robbo was Canned, we were 5 points above 3rd Bottom having just drawn away at WBA.

I suspect a 0 - 4 reversal at home would see the heat turned up on SOD, ala Speed

Whoever gets the job needs to be given time to sort out the mess that Blackwell left. Nobody can fix SUFC in half a season, not even Wenger, Ferguson or Mourinho.

I said a few days back, it was down to two questions:

@ SUFC - ambition or safety? By opening talks with SO'D, they are edging towards the ambitious choice.

@ SO'D - comfortable or challenge?

It's looking like it's up to O'Driscoll now. He can carry on doing the same thing, week in, week out at Rovers and never get the gates about 12,000 despite the numerous plaudits his side get. He can stay there and wait for a huge slice of Blackpool shaped luck. OR he can take on a challenge, a big club where the expectations might be higher and the patience might be less but where the rewards would be far, far greater if he were to get it right. He's taken Rovers - who I genuinely do like - as far as he can now; if he doesn't come to BDTBL, he'll be admitting that he isn't up to the challenge and is a Championship manager at best. Come to t'Lane, Sean, the facilities, the stadium and the potential fanbase are here - do the same here as you did at the Keepmoat and you'll be a Blades legend managing in the Premier League.

As for Doncaster, they can go raid Bournemouth again for Eddie Howe.

Mr Ryan is panicking now that after all his spouting 'the balance of power in s yorks' will be back at Bramall Lane after 6 months!

I fail to see Ryans point on the time issue. Warnock got as long as he needed and Blackwell had 2.5 seasons. The bigger issue SOD has to consider is the level of backing he's likely to have in Summer.

Don't think they are Donny fans. More likely Monty and a few of his mates.

This really is fabulous news for all Blades. Can I get my 11/12 season ticket now please?

I said the same thing to someone the other day. What is this myth about us having a sacking culture at the lane????

We've had 4 managers in just over a decade! From those four, the first one left of his own accord after about 7 years in charge and the last one left for another job after only four months!

Football people dont half talk some bollocks sometimes. Especially ones that dont like people looking in their back garden for talent.

Think SoD will be thinking that even if he doesn't get backing, he'll quite easily be able to sell a number of players who aren't his 'kind' and use the funds to rebuild.

Pinchy has a semi.

Part of his remit will be promoting Lowton into the 1st XI and improving the likes of Chappel, James, Slew, Roe etc who, you'd imagine, would be more adaptable to his methods. It's quite possible that in 12 months time, we could have a much healthier looking squad without investing and a few loanees off the wage bill.

SoD's profile would then certainly fit with how Pembo is now running the Academy lads

From the Star, Pembo said at the AGM:

"What I want to do is put some more Sheffield lads out there on the pitch," Pemberton, who made over 60 league appearances for the club during his own playing career, admitted.

"When I first turned-up here there were people like Dane Whitehouse, Jamie Hoyland and Mitch Ward who, okay might not have been the most talented, but had hearts as big as buckets. They lived and breathed this place. It was part of them.

"The game is changing and we have to change too. My academy teams like to pass the ball and we've had 14-year-old's playing for the under-18's because they knew what they were doing because every side we've got sings from the same hymn sheet.

"The centre-halves we've got now probably have more touches of the ball than the midfielders.

"Anyone who comes to watch us will see all of the teams we've got, right the way through the age groups, playing the same way. That's how it has to be."

So no backing in January or the Summer, I`m not complaining, probably correct, just hope SOD understands that before he signs up.

No backing as such but there's certainly scope to ship out one or two before shipping in ;)

I think Saturday's win and AGM followed by the S'OD chat this week has lifted the gloom round this club. I am really excited for our future if it all comes off.

Why does O'Driscoll need time. I will probably had a donny white telling me I am arrogant but I do firmly believe that we have a better squad of players than Doncaster who are just not living it to their potential.

Personally I don't care if Sitwell has an issue with Quinn, there is a player in there somewhere and we have seen it before. I am confident that S'OD can get the best out of him.

Pinchy might have a problem with Monty if you hadn't noticed. He has all the skills bar passing. S'OD will help that eventually or he will be gone.

Don't tell me there isn't a player in Ched Evans. He has the skills however to me seems to miss abit of heart and desire. Could SOD be the man to bring it out of him. Have a look at the Donny strikers he sems to get things out of.

This team doesn't need time, it needs belief and thanks to Carver and the win at the weekend and hopefully the arrival of SOD will get our guys firing. I have heard a few players moan over the last few years about Blackwell etc; but they will have no excuse now.

I think our team is ready to take off now and let's just stop talking about relegation. It's not going to happen

Do we not need to be careful about putting the cart before the horse? I keep reading about Pemberton being the next Mourinho but if I rememebr rightly we'd lost 2 of the last 3 games. I hope against hope some lads come through but it should be supplementary to the shaping of a new first team squad not the bedrock of it.

"The centre-halves we've got now probably have more touches of the ball than the midfielders."

I'm slightly puzzled why Pemberton thinks this is a good thing? How many goals get scored from the Centre-half position!?
Has anybody seen the Academy sides play lately? Please tell me they play attacking, exciting football rather than defenders tapping it between themselves for the sake of it.

I'll give him time, but I think he'll have a couple of games before certain people start bandying around "knockers" and "clappers", Sean O'Dour or other hilarious pseudonyms and wheel out the usual..."the majority of fans think..."/"...All Blades agree" sweeping statements that we know and (sic) love.

Bottomline is that we can't compete financially and won't be able to compete financially for a wee while so one of the things we can or should be able to offer a manager is time.
It's a bit of a gamble but the only way we will be able to challenge in the future is if we build a proper team with some decent foundations.
After the last couple of years of chaos, it shouldn't be too hard to sell a bit of stability to supporters.
