Sorry my bad, !!!!!!!

What exactly is 'My BAD' meant to mean? Is this another 'cool' phrase said by Southern Twats who have picked it up from some wanky american celebrity? I fear it is creeping into too many peoples vocabulary, following the horrendous 'innit' at totally inappropriate points in their uninteresting badly spoken tongue.
Just like people who use their fore and middle finger to show "quotation marks" or those who add them in their written replies on these boards all the freakin time........................ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that's me too, I am being affected by bellenditis. And yes too much time on my hands coupled with no fresh transfer news and an urge to write drivel.

Wow, all these posts and that's what you decide to comment on.

wot u talkin bout blud
Fuckin hell they're all at it!!!!!!
Back to more serious matters tho, we really need some pace and 2 good quality defenders. Blackwell has had all summer to bring them in and we're now only a few weeks from the first game. I wouldn't be too happy with the squad as it stands.

Yes apparently, this was in The Star before we signed Nosworthy:- http://www.thestar.co.uk/blades/BladesSheffield-United-target-three-new.6428304.jp

What do you think we are still short of Bergen?

Unless we're all of a sudden going to give the youngsters a chance I think we look vulnerable in numbers. In defence I'd like us to add one right back, one centre half and one left back. How many centre halves did we use last season? We currently have Morgan, Nosworthy and Ertl.

In central midfield I think we have enough in numbers, but I'm not sure we'll find the right balance. A Swansea fan describes Britton like this:

Leon (Britton) is a fantastic player in a certain role, ie right in front of the back 4. I wouldnt call him a play maker, he certainly doesnt get near the box and cant pass more than 20 yards, but fair play he does this very well. He wont score goals, 14 in 7 years as a midfielder is poor, but he tackels well, and has a great engine.

Bigger midfielders tend to pick on him, but he can handle himself. It will slow your play down, and if you play a 442, leon wont be very effective. we have some very athletic midfielders such as pratley who compensate for Brittons lack of mobility.

I think some Blades think Britton will be a goalscoring, creative playmaker who'll score and set up loads of goals, but it does sounds he's not that type of player. I think Monty does many things well, but I think he limits us to a certain style - it's asking a lot from his partner to be the one who's always going to playmake from midfield. They'll probably try to be a high energy 'engine room', and get it out wide.

Britton and Monty, flanked by Ward and Yeates have some things going for them. I think Ward and Yeates is a good right/left combination and we may create more from wide areas if they stay fit. But what about back up? If Ward is injured the balance seems to collapse. The mentioned four must also be the smallest midfield in the country?

I think we definitely need another out and out winger, as I can't see Ward staying fit all season. If Ward gets replaced by a central midfielder like Quinn or Williamson, the pressure will be on Yeates to create, which means the opposition can concentrate on doubling up on him, and thus stop the creative supply to the forwards.

Up front, I think the balance is poor, and we're crying out for a new Camara to add some pace and flair. As said, I doubt our midfield will be good enough to allow us to play without a target man, which means Hendo or Cresswell will start - with Bogdanovic and Evans to fight for the poacher role. In any case I don't see a perfect combination, although they all have their good attributes.

Summary:
I think we need at least five more signings.

Good stuff Bergen.

I'm not trying to make this a Monty bashing exercise but it pains me that the side appears to be built around him.

I look at Forest's midfield last term where (and I don't know how often the various central combinations played together) but I like the blend of McKenna, Moussi, Perch and Anderson. It is a world away from our options for me. I know Forest were painful to watch at times and blew it when it mattered but they must have got somethings right in the middle.

Williamson and Britton would be my first choice pairing but for various reasons will not happen. Ward on right and quite happy with Cresswell on left if necessary. Monty is fine for me in a 5 man midfield. No idea what best combination is up front but none spring to mind.

Typical Bergen, wanting a balanced team with round pegs in round holes. Haven't you seen the state of our finances?

And I can see what you're doing quoting the Swansea fan. It's just a dig at Monty because he's a prolific scorer compared to our own Zidane.

For what it's worth, I share all those concerns and would throw another goalkeeper into the mix.

I can't see how Monty and Britton are going to fit into the same lineup. It smacks of Leigertwood-Monty partnership all over again. Nor can I see Britton/Ertl or Ertl/Monty - we seem to have a crux of players who's general role is of the same ilk.

Agreed we need at least one more centre half and also a 1st team right back and a solid left back. We're also desperately crying out for some pace up front although I understand this can't be 'rectified' until Henderson is fit to sell on.

I'd be more concerned about the fact that Britton hasn't kicked a ball yet. As I've said on another thread, KB gave the same 'don't worry' comments about Willo this time last year.

What exactly has Blackie said about Britton?

Why oh why can't some of our "so-called" "fans" understand he covers every blade of grass??

Very interesting. Put me down as one of the Blades who thought Britton was going to be an attacking, creative playmaker. Maybe Blackwell's planning to play him 20 yards further forward than Swansea did? In effect the central midfielder he's replacing is Quinn, so I think that does show an improvement over the last two seasons.

Also, the last time we were promoted Jags and Monty were our central midfield pairing. So it's not always necessary to have an attacking goalscorer in there, providing you have pace and goals wide and up front (i.e. Ifill, Kabba, Webber). We do have some pace wide but as we all keep saying, none at all up front.

The only way I can see the current squad working is to maybe play 4-5-1/4-3-3 with Britton in the holding/playmaking role you described. Two other workers/battlers in midfield and Ward/Yeates and Cresswell pushed further forward to create and score goals:-

...................Simonsen
New RB Nosworthy Morgan New LB
......Montgomery Britton Quinn
Ward...........Bogdanovich......Creswell

If Monty/Britton had Ward and Yeates either side with Evans and Boggy up front we'd be fine, there should be plenty of movement with attack minded players around them. Trouble is, it's more likely to be Squinny and Ertl either side with Hendo and a n other ahead of them with defenders instructed to bypass them completely. Time will tell.

Nice to see we agree on something i think the midfield you put in the post above would be strong and my 1st choice but we know it won't happen, especially away from home. Just the back 4 now who, i think if rumours about alex bruce are true then maybe Nossy, bruce, morgs and taylor or if he liked vignal then him at LB.

For me, if Hendo doesn't play, we play football in a different way, the same was true on the rare occasions when Camara played, so we know it can be done. We have decent enough players it's just a case of getting the balance right between playing the solid defensive football Blackwell obviously prefers and getting the best out of them attacking wise. One thing I hope we move away from this season is having a home formation and an away formation. The likes of WBA showed last season that the same team can do a decent job home and away if the attitude is right.

I still think Bartley will be with us as soon as August comes round and if/when Nyron signs that would give us 3 CBs, Nyron, Kozzy, Lowton can play RB, Taylor LB with Kozzy covering so arguably Dickinson for LB would leave us reasonably well set, subject of course to a raft of injuries again.

I don't see Evans as being a very "mobile" forward and from what I've heard about Bogdanovic it doesn't sound like he is either. Surely Creswell will surely get the nod over both of them with his recent goalscoring record for us. Pair him with a pacy, skilful Camara-type striker and I think we're in business. I think Henderson will be sold as soon as he's fit again and an offer is received. You may be right about Bartley being one of the two new signings, which means Nosworthy will be first choice right back. I think Taylor is being groomed as another potential centre-back judging by pre-season. It could work as he's not really quick or skilful enough at left back but you don't necessarily need those qualities at centre back.

Only two more signings left to come in according to Blackwell and when you look at the squad and the trialists, they both look certain to be defenders. So I reckon the 22 man squad for next season is going to look a lot like this:-

Simonsen
New RB (Gilbert on loan?), Nosworthy (loan), Morgan, New LB (Vignal?)
Ward, Britton, Montgomery, Yeates
Bogdanovic, Cresswell
Subs:- Aksalu, Kozluk, Ertl, Lowton, Quinn, Evans, Henderson
Others:- Taylor, France
Injured:- Williamson, Walton

Would you be happy with this? Personally, I'd be quite happy with this apart from the glaring lack of a pacy, skilful striker. Still time for Henderson or Evans to be offloaded for £1M+ and some of the £3M+ transfer profit re-invested?

NO! This is getting more worrying by the day. Our squad looks brittle and KB is talking of signing only 2 more players.

I always thought that Lenners was being melodramatic and over the top when he talked of a relegation scrap, but at this rate we are in one. That team (above) will be lucky to get anywhere near the top half. A very average first 11 that will get torn apart by a mediocre attack and any pacey strikers/wingers will embaress us. No strenght in depth and injuries to Cresswell, Ward, Britton and/or Morgs and we are in big trouble. Shambles.

Fucking. With a "g". And though, with a "u", a "g" and an "h".

What is it with these abbreviations? Is this more Southern Twattery?

I'm not sure, but it's certainly not Northern Spellcheckery.;)

Top flounce Olly...

Bergen, that is excellent analysis, and it scares the bejesus out of me. So much would seem to depend on Yeates playing well and Ward and Williamson actually being fit. This is troubling to say the least.
