it might be click bait but i'm really annoyed by this. it is fucking disgraceful journalism at least. absolutely no respect. fuck off Loserpool.

The idiot who said Wilder was a dinosaur also said Wilder didn't handle James fucking Wilson well last season. Jesus.

probably because generally speaking, James Wison wasn't very good.

update: i actually know a couple of massive Liverpool fans so i immediately sent off a bunch of 'miffed of Sheffield' texts. they didn't know about it but are now pretty miffed themselves as they are upset about being seen as 'billy big bollocks'. this 'journalist' seems to have created a bit of a shitstorm. The Liverpool fans aren't happy about these comments either (as gimli pointed out earlier).. 'total lack of respect toward your club' was bandied about and 'puts Liverpool in a bad light' .. not heard the last of this.

At the minute, Woodburn’s sort of got the same battle on his hands to force his way in as Brooks had this time last season, and I think people forget how difficult it was for him to get large amounts of game time even before the glandular fever hit him in December. We have a manager that plays a particular formation with two up top and the Duffy role behind. When you have Duffy and our two main strikers (Clarke & Sharp last season, McGoldrick & Sharp this season) all playing well, then the options are limited. Brooks after all only got his first two starts (Norwich and the derby) due to injuries to nearly all our main strikers. Even after that breakout game in the derby, he only started 3 of the next 12 games – the immediate game that followed vs Wolves (when all the strikers were nearly all still injured) and the away games at QPR & Millwall. All of the other games he was having to get his time off the bench. There were not obvious opportunities to start him given how well the starting XI was playing.

The same is true now. His case is probably made slightly tougher by the fact that in the positions he can play in, we’re a stronger squad than we were last season. Coutts’s return also makes it more likely that the Duffy role will at times we switched to an extra deeper midfielder. Woodburn is going to have to be patient.

A few moronic opinions on twitter does not a fan base make.

It does if you are Pinchy!

He once heard a landed gentry Blade discussing the lameness of a favourite horse and fixated on the word 'hoof'. He has now convinced himself that there are mega legions of 'hoof and at 'em' Blades, all clamouring for the return of Bassett.

Liverpool having a larger fanbase, will statistically have more Pinchy s. I bet you are now feeling sorry for the rest of them.

Jesus fucking Christ. Clueless WWE fan tweets brainless opinion. Article. Outrage. Get a fucking grip.

Woodburn is 18. He could be in the form of his young life, but who is he going to displace in our team at the moment? Especially in those two away games.

JK: Guten tag Herr Vilder. Vott is happenink mitt our Ben, mein freund?
CW: He's as good as everyone says. We're really appeh. But our midfield and forrads are playing like wizards, red and white wizards. Can't fit him in the squad. Attitude is spot on though. It's a long old season, Satdi Tuesdi, I mean Wensdi, Satdi, Wensdi. I reckon he'll have his part to play.
JK: Jah. Ok. Vot about Marcus Duffing. Can we give you 50m quid for him? He's a genius. And I haff heard he's a Liverpool fan.
CW (spluttering): No. No. No. Lifelong Blue. No. Shame really.
JK: Ah. Ok. Good luck Sheffield. Vill speak soon.

I've got a couple of mates who are Liverpool fans and have been berating CW about BW's lack of football.

My argument to them was that for me, he just has not proven that he deserves a place in our squad. PL clubs seem to think that a starlet from their academy just has a god given right to be starting Championship games.

There's a reason he's not been in the side and I'll trust Wilder to make the right call regarding the match day squad. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets shipped back in January.

I think the problem lies with Duffy being bang on form. This is Woodburn's slot and I think that Wilder may have been dubious about Duffy maintaining his form as he has done this season. Add to this the shitstorm at the start of the season when Duffy didn't start and we were hopeless the first two games, so I don't think Wilders going to drop him again any time soon.

Therefore Duffy is the problem. Woodburn can't get past him and long may it continue. If Liverpool are going to kick up a fuss then send the bugger back. Of some concern though will be the money United waste on him which is considerable by all accounts.

David Brooks didn’t manage to nail down a permanent spot and he’s 2 years older and a more accomplished player.

Woodburn only got in the Welsh team ahead of Brooks because Liverpool get more exposure.

I think that’s backed up now that Brooks is playing well regularly in the top flight and Woodburn is competing with Lundstram to be the last name on the teamsheet of eighteen.

Even on a matchday he’ll have trouble getting on before Coutts, Clarke, Johnson and Stearman depending on the state of the game.

Perhaps it's a problem playing young kids in the Championship.

Last season, Brooks was crowded out by bigger, stronger players in the Championship, yet he seems a much better player this season in the Prem but may still have benefited from the games he did play over last season.

Woodburn could be having similar problems this season - perhaps we've made a mistake, perhaps he still hasn't got to the pace of what the Championship is.

Washington has come on twice since signing - where Woodburn could have been used instead.

I haven't seen enough from Woodburn to even warrant being in front of Washington now.

He could very well be recalled in January, especially if we pick up another forward in the JTW for a push to promotion.

Just been speaking to a Liverpool season ticket holder and he doesn’t agree with the article!!!. He agrees with me that you wouldn’t drop Duffy just to give woodburn his chance!!.
The general consensus amongst scousers is that he should have joined rangers to be looked after by gerrard!!. They agree the quality of football is less up there but at least he’d get games!!. They also say that a top half championship side is probably a step too far for him at the moment!. I’d have to agree!

It just goes to show how little some people know about football outside of their own little bubble.
They automatically assume that an 18 year old kid is good enough for the Championship because he has come from their academy

He hasn't shown enough to dislodge anybody from their place, he's been unlucky in that our midfield is settled and playing well. But let's be right, we had to buy Norwood because he wasn't ready. And as somebody has said already, if he was tearing it up in training he'd be in the squad at least, ready to come on and seize his chance when called upon.

Loan players from the Premier League generally go one of two ways, 1) They work their arses off to get their parent club to notice, or another club to notice, or 2) They slink around the place, head down, sulk a bit, think they're better than this, and return to their clubs having achieved nothing and ending up even further down the pecking order than they were to start with

James Wilson was a number 2, let's just hope that Woodburn has something to offer when he gets another chance.

He certainly was a number 2, a great steaming pile of number 2

Washington has come on twice since signing - where Woodburn could have been used instead.

Ironically, had he been in the same situation I’d have backed him to score that. However there were various balls into the corner that Washington muscled in to get to that Woodburn probably wouldn’t have done anything with.

Indeed - we had gone to 5 in midfield at Blackburn when Washington did his channel runs - think we'll see that at home and away for lets say the last 10 mins of a game - probably when we are winning.

If Woodburn comes on, it's liable to offer something different if we are losing a game.

Not quite sure why all the kerfuffle about who's selected?

Ben has played, underwhelmed when selected, and thus Wilder has chosen to select players he knows he can rely on. The fact that we're playing well makes Ben's inclusion something that's on the back-burner for the moment. The fact that it's the Championship doesn't mean that it's any easier to make your case, so patience everyone, no doubt Wilder and Liverpool speak and they're aware of the why's and wherefore's. Ben is way down the list of first team regulars at L'pool, but youth will serve him well. Just get your head down Woodburn, listen attentively, and when you're asked to play, show us why Wilder brought you here.

One of the biggest mistakes last year was starting that muppet James Wilson instead of Sharp against the Pigs!

I’ll bet it’s also one of Wilders biggest regrets as well.

Clearly Woodburn needs to prove himself to get in.

I work over in Cheshire with quite a few “ self entitled” scousers..... To be honest I would have never thought in my lifetime I could have any empathy with Man Utd fans.
