He hasn't shown enough to dislodge anybody from their place, he's been unlucky in that our midfield is settled and playing well. But let's be right, we had to buy Norwood because he wasn't ready. And as somebody has said already, if he was tearing it up in training he'd be in the squad at least, ready to come on and seize his chance when called upon.

Loan players from the Premier League generally go one of two ways, 1) They work their arses off to get their parent club to notice, or another club to notice, or 2) They slink around the place, head down, sulk a bit, think they're better than this, and return to their clubs having achieved nothing and ending up even further down the pecking order than they were to start with

James Wilson was a number 2, let's just hope that Woodburn has something to offer when he gets another chance.

Whereas it’s quite likely that we’re going to struggle to break a team down at some point and will need to turn to somebody on the bench who may be able to produce a bit of magic or at least something different.
The fact that Woodburn isn’t making the bench ahead of Lunny or Washington suggests that he’s not been even producing anything special in training.

If he gets his head down and works hard, he might deserve a place as an “impact sub” like Brooks. If he doesn’t, he’s more likely to go the way of James Wilson.

Yeah I'm not Lundstram bashing, I defend him often, but he's a 'see it out' sub, and Coutts has all the defensive attributes to see games out with the bonus of being Paul Coutts. When he came on the other day it was like we got a second wind even though we'd been excellent anyway, great balls, quick passing, triangles and solid in the middle.

Subs wise, I'd be thinking Coutts for Duffy, and Woodburn for McG. Coutts adds solidity, which gives Woodburn license to occupy that deep striker/link up area that McG thrives in, and not worry so much about defending.

Same issue with Brooks for me last season, I think he would have had more starts over Duffy if he was a better defender, I know normally that wouldn't matter so much but as Wilder said in an interview after Blackburn, our players are asked to do other things, not just be a box striker or whatever, but if someone like Coutts is taking on some of his slack, we can get the best out of Woodburn while he's learning.

And I've no confirmation of this, but I've just got a hunch that Woodburn has been ill rather than any performance problems.

Every time I've seen him on Hendo's Instagram in the last week or so, he's looked stoned haha, really out of it.

No transfer is guaranteed. Will a young lad settle in a different environment? Will the dressing room chemistry be right? Does he click with his team mates and manager?

What is limiting BWs chances at United is the fact that we've a very strong squad, are playing well and are joint-top. When you get an opportunity, you must grab it (which BW hasn't) because there'll be somebody else after your place. Surely Klopp will realise that's a perfect 'development environment' for a young player? Or would a guaranteed starting place at a middle-of-the-road team, guaranteed because their squad isn't that good, serve him better? Hmm.
