With Burnley winning tonight

Burnley were never going to get relegated, Dyche is far too canny in this league now and they have had many bad starts over the years, and normally recover.

West Brom and Fulham are our immediate targets, then we need to hope that one or two of Palace, Brighton, Leeds and maybe Newcastle get sucked into the scrap.

I understand that many have given up now, up until 2 matches ago it looked like the players had too, but I have seen a bit of the spark come back in the last 2 matches, and I refuse to concede just yet.

As said numerous times on other threads, in 1990 we didn't win for the first 16 matches, with only 4 draws, and we finished mid table comfortably. It can be done, and it might, might just be done again.

Just goes to show what a couple of wins does for you. A couple for us and we start climbing although looking at it unless one of the teams like Palace or Newcastle collapse into a losing streak it is going to be very hard to get out of the bottom three. It is looking all the world like Fulham, West Brom and us for the drop.

You are quite literally the last person on here in a position to question someone's belief, or 'faith' in anything!
But that's what I do for a job.................................

'A person with an experience is never at the mercy of a person with an argument' On this occasion, sadly, my experience tells me that it is delusional to think we can escape. But its not impossible, but is highly improbable. So whilst hoping for the best, after Burnley's resurgence, I expect the worst.

We’ve won zero games for donkeys years and considering we need to win the equivalent of 13 out of the last 24 games to stand a chance, you can see where the doubts are coming from. We’re fucked and the world’s fucked but we still have one day on the 25th of December to socialise with a few other people. 🙈😁

Loving the enthusiasm mate! 👍

bit of realism needed on this thread yes were all supporters but were 90% certain to go down team showing some improvement but weve put ourselves in an almost impossible situation to get out of this and putting 3 wins together the way we are playing against the opposition we will be facing is nigh impossible as well ive all but given up on survival this season but doesnt make me any less of a fan than the ones on here who think we can stay up but WABAW 👍

Genuinly can't believe some 'fans' on here. Yeah, our position is clearly poor, but 10 points off safety after 14 games with a squad that is growing in confidence each game is far from over. If we'd crumbled after Lundstram's red card I might agree, but the way we stayed strong, got ourselves ahead and didn't concede again after their equalizer says volumes about the squad. If Burke had any composure in front of goal, we'd have won that game and many of us would feel very differently.
How does it make us less fans to think we are going down after having the worst start in top flight history? The only thing going for us is there are games left. We can’t keep a clean sheet, and can barely score. we need an incredible run to stay up now and we need teams around us to stop picking up points. The odds of this happening are ridiculously long. I will support the blades til the end and want us to win every match but this season has gone.

Your not slightly worried that we are going down?
Not yet ....way too soon
With 1.5 per game still needed to stay up its not a ridiculous ask . If we needed 2 points per game then I'd worry .We got 1.5 points per game last season. We have to return to what we were capable of
Not a title winning run.but what we've already managed

I think it’s more like 80/20 that we’re down, not the 99/1 like people are making out. Yes we’re on 2 points, but that could really easily be 5 just if Burke had scored his chance on Sunday and the mousse’s shot had gone in against Man Utd. We are competing in games now. If we were still playing like we were in the Southampton game i’d be inclined to agree there’s no hope, but when we are ‘at it’ we are very good, better than a lot of teams.

The questions are:
1. How often can we be ‘at it’ for the rest of the season?
2. How many points can/will the teams around us drop?

I think if the gap to safety is at 4 points after 25 games, we’ve got every chance of staying up.

If we are allowed a full stadium that will give us an extra 10-15%, and detract 10-15% from Newcastle.

It’s not as cut and dry as it seems. A point against Everton and a win against Burnley and the gap is almost halved before new year.

How do you think a team on a run as bad as us will be able to turn it round? How will we keep clean sheets for starters?

We haven't been getting thrashed
Prem games are won by small margins
We've lost out in most of our defeats by 1 goal mainly as we haven't scored

We are slowly starting to convert our opportunities. We have been really bad in 2 games. But lost most to an odd error or stray pass. Cut out those errors and we can swing those margins just enough to grab a 1-0 win where ×'ve lost 1-0

A third of season gone. Playing better but injuries are building. However a January window to bolster a couple of positions. The next 13 games will define relegation or survival not the first 13.
There are some right knobs capitulating and shitting themselves. Must be brexit remainers and project fear mongerers.
Just need to win 3 games and we are back in the pack. Burnley Palace Newcastle and team playing like the Man U game and there is hope.
‘Just need to win 3’. Well we haven’t managed a win all season. This has nothing to do with politics or fear and everything to do with reality. Teams that can’t win don’t generally go on long runs of wins or turn things round. So far we cannot keep a clean sheet and can barely score. Of course I want us to fight to the end but the gap is already 10 points. We did it 1990 but I’m not sure lightning will strike twice. It will take a miracle to stay up. I would stick with Wilder and go for promotion next season.

Do you think we are suddenly going to start scoring more? Like 2 a game?
Or are you relying on us not conceding where we haven’t kept a clean sheet all season?

If only it was about a "gap" of 10 points.

The current gap is irrelevant. We need another 34 points from 24 games to stand even a chance of staying up.

But it seems like we "just to need to win 3 games" to get ourselves back in the pack.

Have I strayed onto Owlstalk?

Pushing for Europe if we win our next game.

What does it matter how we have played . Form changes that's how you improve .
By stopping the mistakes and taking the chances. We were in league 1 for 6 years
Then got to 9th in the prem by getting better. We've had a bad run . Its as possible to improve as get worse.
Played well v man Utd and ok v brighton
Games like leed's and villa we could easily have won but for small margins .
Players only need to believe they can play like we did months ago

We got to the prem by Wilder bringing in new players and changing our tactics. He has since brought in lots of sub standard players in the prem and kept the tactics the same. We have scored 2 goals in only one match all season and all we need to do is believe? We haven’t got the players to turn this around unless messi and Ronaldo sign.

We've 80 per cent of the squad that performed well last season.
The new signings are slowly finding their feet. As I 've said we've lost mainly by the odd goal. We are not a million miles away from turning 1-0 defeats into 1-0 wins. Clean sheets are 1 goal away . Not 6 like Leeds let in. Or 7 palace leaked.

Both Leeds and Palace are miles ahead of us.
