Well just got back from the Hospital firstly let me say that myself and
My wife are overwhelmed with all your comments. I just know we are all a special family of Blades. Like no other.
Had a CT scan and eventually sat down with the consultant. He said there is a tumour in the colon right next to the appendix. He said we will now need to book you in for a colonoscopy (sounds unfriendly) He said he is pretty sure everything else is ok but they will double check and remove any polyps, I asked can you then remove the tumor he said
No I will need a second operation when the tumor will be removed. I said I’m
Not doing very well am I, he looked up at
Me and said “You are very lucky” I said why he told me the Appendix has done you one hell of a favour as it pressed against the appendix the appendix produced pain and that is why you are here you would never have known else. He looked me in the eye and said I don’t give false hopes to people but this I tell you as it is, this tumor is only a few months old I can remove it and cure you, yes cure you. I can’t tell you the emotions and trust me you don’t want to know. I trust this man of 25 years doing this operation and with my wife I will do my best. Holiday has to be cancelled but there will be others. With you Blades willing me on will certainly help tremendously. Thanks fellow Blades and I will hope to let you know everything goes well but I am going to miss All the April matches.

Good luck pal!

Good luck mate. You're in safe hands with your consultant and surgeon. I've had recent experience with neurosurgery which was scary but I knew that I was in safe hands with my surgeon and his team. All the best to you and your family. UTB

Doctors are cautious in what they say, so his confidence is the best thing you could hear in the circumstances.

All the best. You'll enjoy your first game back.

Good news otb :) absolutely made up for you and your wife. Short term tough days ahead but many more seasons to rejoice in the years to come.

UTB

They thought it was an appendix problem but they may have found something else. Just leaving now for a CT scan

Mate. Good luck. But also take some advice here...

Don’t worry about stuff until you know what you’re dealing with. That will cause you more harm than the thing itself. Whatever it is.

About 3 years ago now I got a call in the evening from my GP. I was just getting ready to go out on a bit of a do, a reunion with folks I hadn’t seen for a good few years.

I’d been to the hospital for some tests a few days before as my blood results had been odd for over a year since hospitalisation for something they never found the cause of.

The message was clear. “Report to the haematology ward tomorrow. Expect to be admitted. You’ll need to have some tests and may be in for a few days. Don’t, whatever you do, not turn up”.

I haven’t quoted exactly but that was the gist of it. In a nutshell they suspected leukaemia. That’s what the hospital doctor told me.

I’m pleased to say I followed their instructions and it turned out to be nothing of the sort. Although it’s still not certain what it was. But I could have died of worry that night I’ll tell you.

I think I was pretty resolute before then, I’ve never worried about stuff until there’s actually something to worry about, but that experience has made me even more so.

Stress is a killer and I know we all react differently, but if you can just try and stay calm until you know what you’re dealing with it really can help.

Good luck again.

I hope the surgeon is a bit older than 25 as he won't be experienced enough to do a Hemicolectomy which I'm guessing you're going to need. All the best though, it's a fairly common operation and I'm sure you'll make a full recovery.

I’m sure we were all checking this thread regularly today hoping for a good news update. Sounds encouraging in the circumstances, you’ll be back at the Lane in no time.

Maybe he's a plastic surgeon and he's really 57 ;)
