When we've had disappointing results earlier this season, I've always thought there's been something lacking in the team selection. Today I felt the team looked interesting and well balanced on paper. The lack of pace and width has been addressed and we had an experienced side out.

In a way, it makes the result even worse as we may have to look for other reasons than team selection to explain why it didn't work. Preparation? Tactics? Underestimation?
For me the tactics....since Kitson came into the side we've played hoofball which we are not very good at as we don't press for the second ball. We had 2 wingers today but we never tried to play football to create the width. Wilson should have brought on Whitehouse in place of Kmac or Doyle (both who seem untouchable from a being substituted) instead of Creswell who is way past it and shouldn't even be on the bench.

He usually gets accused of looking after the ground and not the team?

How has he done as you say?

i just dont like the feel of it so much anymore. i keep expecting to see arsene wenger. i cant be the only one?? actually its probably just me... i still miss standing in the corner bit of the kop when i was a kid :(

Amazes me how people who've not been to the game can slag off people who have. United today were simply awful. Until we were 2-0 down the players seemed to saunter around the pitch, appeared unmotivated and complacent. Yeovil by contrast seemed to have a game plan which worked well, actually they seemed to be in first gear and not unduly troubled. Wilson just stands there with his arms folded apparently just looking on as if he has no investment or involvement in the events unfolding in front of him. We should have been 0-2 down at halftime thanks to Harry's hopeless attempt at a back to the keeper header. And what the hell was Long doing ?

In general response you're implying that because you don't see the passion oozing out of a manager or visible actions like an on pitch huddle that we are less prepared for a game than sides like Hartlepool and Yeovil. I disagree. I like to see the passion of a manager but then again I'd counter your point about Danny by saying that all of his work will have been done during the week, then perhaps even in the hour before the game and at halftime.

We all assume that Danny is a quiet manager at halftime, but nobody knows what gets said at halftime. Perhaps that's why he employs Morgs, to rant and throw tea cups.

Have you seen our pre match routine? I've seen it a couple of times throughout Danny's reign and I'm pretty impressed. It rarely changes. It remains constant. Our players (with an excellent win record) do indeed amble out, they have to go through the ceremonial handshakes, but then they have a final byline warm up routine. It's a method which whilst Yeovil are standing round in the cold in a huddle, were doing one last effort to warm the muscles up with drills...

Swiss, you've more or less said that people (brownie) leaving early means they can't comment on the match. I don't know if you were there or not, it doesn't affect whether you can give your opinions. All I know is today was an absolute disgrace even by this seasons standards.

No it wasn't what I said and if it sounded like I was suggesting that it wasn't my intention. Brownies argument centred around him being there... Yet he was only there for 2 thirds. It sounded like we created a number of chances after their second, nothing of real worth though and the game passed us by.

But i would always expect that a man so sure to start a thread calling for a managers head of a team within touching distance of top place would've at least seen the game in full to justify his argument. Why? Because we were 2-0 down at Donny on New Year's Day and came back to draw 2-2.

thats only my fourth home match this season so iv probably seen less football at the lane than most on here this season but i think iv seen enough to base my own opinion so here goes- the only position we have improved on is the goalkeeper! apart from todays clanger Long is better than that joke we had in goal last season. we miss lowton and williamson down the right! i think blackman would do lot better playing in front of an overlapping rightback like matty but saying that mcmahon is a solid defender at this level,(and takes a nice freekick or 3). harry had a bad game today seemed flat footed , miss timed headers , didnt read the bounce or anticipate at all really , dissapointing performance. as for williams i havent got the words to describe how i rate this fella!!! FFS its Danny Wilson who signed and now continues to play this clown! Doyle continues to be blamed in centre mid while K Mac cant do a thing wrong LMFAO . twice in the first half doyle played two great through balls onto the path of flynn( who should have tried to score but didnt?) what did the great kmac do? yes he is our best player but a really good player would take the game by the scruff of the neck from kick-off not wait till we are losing to show bit of desire FFS its Danny Wilsons job as manager to get the best from all the squad and this season he just isnt doing it! yes we are going to beat alot of teams and may end up in the play-offs again but i truly believe now that under the current management we wont get automatic promotion. time for a change, big crowd again athe lane to watch us get out fought by a fu*king pub side. i take my hat off to all you never say die loyal blades who go to games week in week out. until we get a new manager or a big improvement in form then im done with wasting cash and time on watching the Blades in this shitey league!!!

I miss the old kop but you can't blame Mccabe for that surely?

good point about the doyleymacs. im guilty of the same, but i did say mcdonald is my biggest disappointment this season so far. its cos we know he can play so much better than he is doing. whereas doyle cant. but right now, i wouldnt be upset if we got rid of them both. theres barely a player i'd be bothered about keeping after todays shambles. after hartlepool youd have thought theyd be keen to put on a show. turns out they couldnt care a shit about playing for the club.

To call Yeovil a "fu*king pub side" I think is rather unfair.

Football is a game of 11 v 11 players and sometimes you have to accept the other team is better than you.

Even if we think we should win them (why do people who get paid more think they are better?) I wouldn't have it any other way.

They were the better team and deserved to win.

You base your argument on the above, but then I find that you only saw two thirds of the game yourself. Thought it was suspect that you started this thread midway through the 2nd half, but gave you the benefit of the doubt...

Swinging like the wind & mocking Long

To be honest at that point I had seen enough, and walked. This season I've not missed a home game and been to about half the away games so I know where all the problems lie and for me the buck has to stop with DW.

I've been honest and fair, and given him a fair go, and there has been a lot of of positives but now the negatives are starting to outweigh those. The squad has very little strength in depth, he doesn't seem to have a plan, doesn't seem able to fire the team up against sides like Hartlepool and Yeovil. Then you look at some of his signings. Marcus Williams, Matt Hill, Ryan Flynn, and Chris Porter. You don't get promoted with players like this.

Sadly I think that this season is slipping away in to mediocrity, and realistically with the squad we have, and how we are performed lately that is how I see it panning out.

totally agree that yeovil where the better team today, however when i look at the away end and can count their supporters on one hand then i class them as a pub team.

Wilson seems to agree re the performance today

"If you perform as we did today, you don't expect to get much out of the game. I thought for large parts of the game we were a shadow of ourselves.
"We looked fairly nervous and anxious at times. Maybe we have to change our style of play slightly to suit the pitch.
"It's not very often you'll hear me say this, but we were not at the races today and we were second best in too many areas.
"We didn't deserve a great deal today."

Not exactly 'blaming the pitch' as someone said in Shoutbox...sounds like he is critisising the team to me

Well give us a 'like' then! :)

Swiss, you address that to brownie but, trust me, I thought I did well lasting for 60 minutes but that doesn't disallow me from commenting on what I saw. (in fact, I left the SS via Bramall Lane at about 4.20 and there we about 20 people drinking beer and watching it on the screens - it was that bad.)

Hartlepool is where reality finally caught up with us. Imagine Yeovil's manager in his pre-match talk? 'Fuck me, lads! Hartlepool won here the other week. Get out there and do the same!'

The Crewe, Stevenage and Pompey games were entertaining. Today was dross on an entirely different level.

I said at half time and this is what actually happens.

Away teams come to Bramall Lane, keep it tight early on, and then try and hit us on the break after half-time.

We need a manager who has got a tactical plan to counteract that. I don't think Wilson is that man,

So do you go to all the away matches then? If not how can you get at them?

Still think you are being a bit unfair to them.

sorry for being a liitle unfair to the mighty yeovil , and no i dont go to every away game so how very dare i refer to them in the manner i have? apologies if my silly comments offended anyone

I swore I would stay off here tonight, as I knew everyone would be suicidal! That's me gone to watch some sort of crap on TV, this is too depressing.

Go and watch Splash. It makes today's match seem at least as good as pub football.

UTB

We looked more like a pub team than them........and our fans were booing our own young players!

They were much better than us.

I wouldn't take the piss out of a better team.

Saying as I see

jees silverfox why so offended? we werent unlucky today we got out played out fought by a better team on the day who in MY opinion are the size of a non league side(pub team:)) which is allowed on here isnt it? saying as I see

the thing with danny is, he doesnt like taking chances. his plan is to keep every game tight and scrape a 1-0. whilst we were doing that, it was hard to fault him. he's obviously under pressure to get us up, so doesnt want to cock it up. but now were losing to shite teams every week, its looking less good. if we arent good enough, we may as well just bung more youngsters in and attack with reckless abandon. treat this season as a learning experience. it all depends on how you see it. if we decide to pretty much throw in the towel, he probably isn't the right man for the job. theres not much to gain from staying on this safe route if we end up halfway down the league anyway.
Which is going to happen. He may be sacked in February and we may end up 15th, I can see it. I can`t stand the lancashire tit anymore but i really fear for the future if we sack him, as what twat will we get in his place?

They are our equal.....perhaps better after watching today.

So we are perhaps a pub team.

I'm not offended......just think people should sometimes give the other team the credit they deserve.

I thought they played well today. I'd also say that we were poor.
