He makes it all seem like it was a surprise. He likely knew Hamer was off before the transfer window opened since he wasn't going to put pen to paper. Brooks was a good offer and that was also interest we had known about for a while.

It pisses me off when managers like Wilder just seem reactive, as if they are not aware of what's going on. Loading the squad with so many defensive players that are not here to play for free, when as you say even a smidge of those wages could have gone on someone else on loan.

He will redeem himself a touch if I see Sidibe in the match day squad, now is the time to take a risk and show a talent that's in high demand from abroad. Although I know he would sooner play Shackleton.
I’m bemused by your second paragraph. Of course he’s reactive, Have you managed to miss all the shit going on in the boardroom? That we’ve lost parachute payments? Have you seen the money established creative players are going for?

He’s done the only logical thing he could in the circumstances, go for experience, batten down the hatches, he knows how difficult this season is going to be. We’re in survival mode.

“Managers like Wilder”. What the hell does that mean? Meaningless and disrespectful.

Please list the exciting creative players that you think we should have brought in available on free transfers.

It means Wilder acts like he didn’t know Hamer, Brooks or O’Hare were going.

I was talking loans we still haven’t used all our loan allocation.

He was given the funds at least wage wise to sign every defensive player available on a free or on loan.

He and Bettis knew full what the clubs financial position would be this season with the parachute payments and SCR. They also knew what was going on with PA last season.

Wilder can spin fans a yarn or two when he has to.

The first 11 might just be fine

I’m truly just frustrated at the missed opportunity In a division where you only have to finish 8th to make the play offs. We’ve left ourselves so open to a single injury just destroying the season.

The lack of thought and organisation that’s lead to this is truly just stunning. What is our scouting network doing with their time?
We have a 'scouting network ' ...really ?

Just been doing a bit of AI research re: loans. CW's comments about PL teams sending fewer players to the championship this season and as you say, us leaving loan spaces on the table confused me.

Apparently they're been a shift in PL clubs (linked to the new financial rules) expectations re: wages AND playing time guarantees. Basically, it's costing much more to get elite loans in and the penalties for not playing them are higher than ever. CW had said repeatedly that he wasn't interested in just going for numbers, but wanted quality. Extend that to the PL Loans, and we're probably priced out.

Remember:

Now it even applies to the loan market.

Premier League clubs can fuck off. Most of the new financial rules are so the top 6 clubs can pull the ladder up and fuck the rest off.

Blaster and his partner have had their child , suprised he was part of the squad must have been shattered the lad .

Swansea are a top side, where are they in the division.
I think we held them to a draw
After 4 games seem to recall Reading winning the first three think the Hecky promo season top of league we best them in game 4 they went down we went up all I am saying is 4 games tells you nowt
Though we won’t be going up this year

The sooner they disappear into a European Super League the better.
The rest of the leagues will get less money but they can get back to a bit more real competition.

I’ve just listened to Wilder’s interview after the game tonight and I would defy any Blades fan whether you think he’s the right man or not… to not be moved by his passion and positivity.
We’re all hugely disappointed by the transfer window and you can tell he’s gutted … but he was absolutely spot on about what we have to be all about now.
Tonight’s game showed a lot of deficiencies but he’s exactly right that it also showed we have a set of players who will give their all. He refused to moan about not being backed and he just concentrated on what we have got in the squad and how they will all be working incredibly hard to improve and compete.
I know there’s a lot of people on this forum who don’t want him here … but listen to that interview and I think most will hear that we have exactly the right man to get everything out of the squad we have and to fight for every possible point. Even if you don’t want him long term… surely most will be happy he’s in charge while we continue to have nothing but ignorant silence from the owners and continued worries about where their ineptitude may lead.
Thanks for the fantastic goal tonight Rom… looking more like Illy every match.

Yes.

I think he’s doing a decent job in what must be incredibly trying circumstances.

Now the transfer window is shut & that saga’s done until January, can we get the journalists to ask some questions about the players we do have? Be good to have some updates on when Seriki, Oné, Chong & Burrows will be available. And also ask why Doherty hasn’t played in the last two games despite us having no recognised RB & getting destroyed down the sides in both games.

Feels like the interviews with Wilder are very much dictated by what he wants to talk about - we get very little questioning about individual players, performances or tactics.

Do I like him tactically? No
Do I believe in his temperament and ability to manage games? No
Do I trust him with strong financial backing? No

Does his belief in this team when they've got everything against them inspire me? Yes
Do I think he can convince players to run through brick walls for him? Yes
Do I think he can scratch and claw with this raggedy, fucked up squad and salvage something? Yes

The squad clearly believe in you Chris. I did once. Time to do it again
Nailed it

I echo what others have said, I'm not convinced long term Wilder is the answer, but under these circumstances there's nobody else I'd want to make us hard to beat and hopefully instil a bit of pride in the shirt, can already see the likes of Donovan, Phillips and BBD have bought into it so that will hopefully count for something.

I don't think we'll get "better" as the season goes on, the football will be pretty turgid throughout but it's a needs must situation with what we have available.

Similarly it's why the recruitment makes sense, I'm not convinced Choudhury or BBD can be classed as good signings, but Wilder knows they'll both get stuck in and put up a fight for him, which is exactly what he needs this season, as much as we as fans would have loved us to take a chance on a couple of wildcard players from abroad/lower leagues, I can fully understand why we've gone for tried and tested.

I see this year as a reset, clearing the decks and hoping that in 12 months time we're in a much better position as a club with hopefully new owners, and pray that we pick up enough points this year to avoid relegation, it's gonna be a long year, but positive hat on (if I can find it), hopefully one that sees us bounce back stronger! Wilder is the man for where we are right now, long term vision? probably not. However, we need players to run harder, first to every ball and just generally fight for every single point that we can and there's none better equipped than Chris. Only thing i will say on last nights win is i do think we need a 3rd man in midfield or change of personel in the middle. Too many times where we're on the ball and there's a massive gaping hole where we should be offering for the ball, just looked a little like jairo and peck were chasing each other about a little bit and then the ball turned over and we got played through the exposed space but anyway i'm not a manager or a coach, we got a win and we move onto the next one. ⚔️

The reduced money was widely known about due to the parachute payments ending plus the new SCR rules. This cutting of wages and players was going to happen regardless of the PA court shenanigans.

I am sure Bettis or Wilder claimed we were prepared for these matters last year but quite clearly we were not.
They certainly didn’t seem to be! However it is difficult to be prepared when the goalposts keep being moved and narrowed at the same time.

A couple of days ago you claimed our squad was comfortably top 8. But removing one player makes it raggedy and fucked up 👍
In those 8 days, we've lost our only creative outlet, brought in another CDM, lost our attacking RB to injury, brought in an injury prone LM and no more creative elements.

The base of the squad is top 8. That squad is now crocked or supplemented by talent that don't improve it, or whacked out in weird tactical iterations that don't make any sense

But sure, keep being weird

What 8 days? It was on Saturday you said it.

Oh right the base of the squad is comfortably top 8. Just nonsense again isn't it.
But sure, keep being weird
You call me weird. You pretended to think our squad was top 8 a couple of days ago because you wanted to argue with me about Wilder. Now you're not arguing with me your thoughts on the squad are amazingly completely different. This is why I get annoyed with you. You never even believed the thing you were arguing you just wanted an argument.

Oh, you two! There's nothing I hate more than a lovers' tiff!

Blaster and his partner have had their child , suprised he was part of the squad must have been shattered the lad .
Glad to see this. Saw someone mention Wilder had said it had been a difficult week for Blaster and I was trying to work out when it was due.

Announced in April so I was worried it wasn't due for a couple more months and it was bad news.

Outplayed by 2 promoted teams and got lucky somehow. Wait till we play the top sides. Very worrying …

The top side at the moment is Swansea and we are the only team that they have failed to beat and failed to score against. And that was at their place.
