Wilder to Sunderland?

He's never managed above league 1 and is not foreign (Kris Wildervycz?). This makes him invisible to any Premier League club except perhaps Burnley who are locally owned and do not consider British managers to be the spawn of the devil.

If we have a great start, other Championship clubs might sit up and take notice but then why would he leave if that were the case?

As Pinchy said (without mentioning 'hoof'), when you have a decent manager other's will take notice, so expect more of this. Most of it is just media driven nonsense of course.

How refreshing is it to have a manager that people want and players that won't be difficult to shift?

Compare with previous managers who've had to pay players off or have been lumbered with contracts because they're either overpaid or garbage (or in most instances both).

This I don't understand. According to some, Moyes was starved of funds at Everton. And Real Sociedad. And Manchester United. And now Sunderland.

The guy's a fucking liability.

'Very few observers will dispute that he was dealt a bad hand; an owner who wanted to sell, a squad short on depth and quality and little money to do anything about it. (See Wilder, Chris 12 months ago.)

But that was no excuse for chucking in the towel after round one, just as he did when he forecast a season-long struggle against relegation following the first home game of the season. It set the tone for a miserable campaign.

On reflection, Moyes should have quit last summer. Instead, he hung around to tell the world what a rotten mess the football club is in.'

Nineteen years as a manager and he's won the Second Division with Preston (2000) and the Community Shield with Man. United in 2013. Normally, poor managers (McCarthy, Holloway, Jackett, Carvalhal etc. etc. can point to some fleeting success years ago to justify their existence. Moyes can't.
 
Moyes was a scapegoat when appointed Man U boss - nobody could full the shoes that Fergie left. They didn't get any of the players they wanted and resorted to Fellaini (who despite his critics has been a regular under both subsequent managers).

Van Gaal and Mourinho, despite all their silverware, impressive CVs and bottomless funds have performed no better than Moyes.

Martinez/Koeman have performed no better than Moyes at Everton.

Sociedad was a risk, never easy and it's clear he underachieved there given the squad they had and what's happened since.

Granted he's not fantastic, but he's certainly not garbage.

After looking at this thread, nowt would surprise me with the knowledge of the average fan:

Pearson Won the Championship and Division One with Leicester but, lest we forget, left Leicester in relegation danger before he was sacked. Also, try getting him out of The Rising Sun.

Carvalhal. I shit you not. Somebody really has suggested him. 16 jobs, a couple of tin-pot trophies in Portugal and a serial bottler. Talking of which...

Gary Monk. Not bad at Swansea but managed to steer Leeds out of the play-offs after being there most of last season.

Giggs. Yes, a stellar managerial career. Just what you need to 'learn his trade' at a fairly big club.

I can't be arsed going through the many pages of the Sunderland crap, but most of the above will be available, if not now, then soon.

Unable to take Everton to the next level after doing ok at Preston. In fact Everton generally always seemed to be struggling in the bottom half when he was manager.

As has been pointed out...he's achieved feck all. No cup finals earned, the one he did get was as a result of Fergie the previous season to him.
He's a wealthy guy...and I'm sure a decent fella.
He should sit back and semi retire to doing something enjoyable. He will have a team from his younger days that will have a youth set up....go there and do some work for free.

Now this is all allegedly, but Wilder was on a contract of 250k a year. If that's doubled he'll be on 500k, and I would reckon that a Sunderland manager would at least get £1 million a year. I'm not claiming Wilder is a money grabber, but if you look at Walker Naughton Slew you take the move when offered despite your love for the Blades if you think its best for your career.

As it happens whilst Sunderland is a step up, it won't be a pleasant situation for the new manager due to the ownership issues and high expectations so it'd be for that reason that Wilder would turn them down if offered IMO

Moyes took Everton to the top four and regularly flirted with top 7. If by next level you mean Champions League football, then I doubt any manager in world football with their resources would manage to do that.

Without checking I'm sure you are probably right.
But he did spend some serious money on players and Everton is a big club.
In what was 10 seasons of stability and breaking transfer records often, he still achieved nothing of note.
They have been ever presents in the premier league, and should have done more IMHO.
 

I think that Chris Wilder is still a bit of a secret in the football world.
His CV in the Championship is non existent, he's not that rated outside Sheff Utd and the bottom divisions. So only really desperate Championship clubs would appoint him.
However these days most clubs in the Championship and PL don't need to take risk.
They tend to go for the tried and tested, a sexy big name (ex player) or a mysterious foreign name.

On Talksport yesterday Mr Sunderland himself (Michael Gray) said his choice would be Kevin Philips because it would boost the fans, said they need someone young for the long haul.

It's been on the radio this morning saying that Sunderlands main target appears to be ex player Kevin Philips.

So I would say that rules him out of the Sunderland job too.

Hull are in a better position that them as well, and he only went there to try and make a bit of a name for himself as they were pretty much doomed when he arrived. He did well more or less straight away, and completely changed the system and style of play.
Great results at home, but clearly he was getting things wrong with his away record.

Silva will end up at Watford I reckon.

I'd agree with that. For me, he might as well stay at Hull if he is staying in the Championship. A few more weeks I think he'd have kept them up. Seems a decent manager.
 
Where is the offer of a new contract?

Paul Cook won the league in League two. Got offered jobs so Pompey went we want you to stay we will open negotiations for a new deal.

Wigan rumour now seems dead in water. Let's just give Wilder an improved longer contract.

I seem to recall McCabe was asked about a possible new deal for Wilder and he responded with "Chris already is on a good deal which has another two years to run". Not sure if McCabe wants to extend it to be honest. Maybe the existing one doesn't have a release clause and McCabe wants to avoid any potential of it. Total guess work there.

I'm not referring to C W but as most know, contracts are not worth the paper they are writt en on if one party wants out
Whatever happened to the good old hand shak to seal the deal and I'm not referring to the left footers

I agree I don think there's any risk of losing Wilder for a while yet. He's not a sexy name, no experience of the Championship, nevermind the PL.

I think Wilder needs to get promoted with us and perform well in the PL before any PL clubs come calling with former club Southampton being the obvious club.

To the outside world, getting Sheffield United out of L1 isn't a miracle akin to Leicester winning the PL or Forest winning the European Cup, it's meh. How many clubs has Grayson got out of L1? Or Jackett? Or Parkinson? No one is tipping them for the Sunderland job.

Hopefully, by the time the rest of the world has woken up to CW we'll be in the PL.
 
Thought Wilder had been given a new one. Doubled his pay as well
