Here’s a question, irrespective of your held views on Wilder what position is the cutting point for pulling the trigger of changing manager at the end of the season. I.e what constitutes an acceptable season, or passing grade for Wilder?

Current view: On fence, erring towards Wilder in.

Sackable: bottom half finish and I’d probably opt for a change of manager

Keep: Top half but not playoffs is probably a okay outcome, with playoffs representing an excellent outcome in current situation.

I’m intrigued on how the tipping point would differ depending on your currently held in or out view.
I think I’ve been relatively critical of some of the individual decisions of late but I’m probably at a “Chris, please do less of that” or “Chris please don’t do that” when you can see obvious moves that eat into his credit rather than a “throw the lot out”.

There is a special feeling with a Unitedite at the helm, for me, at least, and you know it isn’t just a job for them. Us doing well and a Blade at the helm felt extra special. But I can also appreciate you can’t be ruled by sentiment to the nth degree.

But I do think there is a lot the club has to do, and I’m not convinced with the current owners that them introducing another variable will improve things.

In the next month I’d expect some players to sign new deals. Those that don’t will need to be up for offers in January. That then creates opportunity to raise more cash. There are a couple of projects which need it: Dore development and BLUT roof not to mention the team.

Getting more out of this bunch whilst potentially trimming further and allowing little investment is going to be a thankless task.

When would be the tipping point? If it looked like the players were phoning it in; clearly by the fight shown on Wednesday they aren’t. Or if we dropped onto the bottom three and started to look in free fall.

Whilst part of me feels he has oddly doubled down now on 4-4-2, another part thinks he might just have enough players back from injury to start getting results. It has been undeniably rough to be without Gus, Brooksy and O’Hare to then find ourselves shorn of the pace and creativity of Oné, Seriki, Chong and Burrows. Yes I would have done things differently, gone 4-3-3 but losing your top 3 creators only to then lose 4 of the next best ones is hard to absorb for any team.

For me, next ‘review’ should be December before the window arrives. We can’t just operate in a scenario debating the manager’s position after each game. It’s not healthy. We need to be behind the manager and team and with players returning look to see a run emerge.

As much as we can comment negatively on the team, there are plenty of teams doing ok whose playing staff we wouldn’t be that bothered about.

For one, Cooper, Kitching, Phillips, Bamford is a very good spine at this level. We just need them to be fit and those around them to reach some fitness and consistency.

I think he’s way too arrogant to “introspect” these days.

My only reservation with getting rid is what we saw last time with Seles - it seems he’s involved more with the day to day other duties than we thought.

I’d be happy to part ways if it was part of an overhaul of the whole footballing structure of the club. With these owners though, I’m not sure if I’d trust them to hold a schoolyard raffle 😬
Every managerial change is a risk.

He has created an environment where he is THE central character. THE biggest Blade and no one can succeed other than him. Too many bought it.
For that reason, and set against what we see, week in, week out, he should be helped on his way.

'Culture' is nothing more than a cover for failings at this point.

This is my big issue. The Wilder of 16-20 would do whatever it took to win, when we couldn’t stamp our authority games he’d adapt.

Since the LMA award he’s become his own biggest fan, freezing out players he’s had disagreements with, sniping at previous boards, sniping at fans that disagree with him, picking fights with pundits, picking fights with other managers and players, snarky with journos…. The chip on his shoulder must be weighing him down these days because he can’t stand any form of introspection or criticism.

Everything he does is right and how dare anyone disagree.
I mostly agree, and this has been the case for a long time.
In fairness to CW, in the injuries interview yesterday (?) that's in here, he mentioned Portsmouth game. He said we could have gone solid and try to hold on to the draw, but he wanted to push still and that's his responsibility for it ending up a loss.
Is he changing his ways on that front?

In my view, Wilder is not a perfect manager. His recruitment policy, preference for child-sized midfielders and lack of faith in youth is not ideal.

However, the problem at this club is a lack of funds to any kind of plan. With that in mind, Wilder is a far better manager than most for our current situation. A couple of bad decisions and were relegation fodder, which would ruin us.

I said min points 5 out of those three games after the international break reset, he really needed to show us something different, has he? so he needs to win tomorrow. I was in the in band, but if we lose tomorrow and don’t see anything to suggest we’re improving or that he’s learnt from past mistakes then he’s out for me. I’m sick to death of this nothing football, this group of players should be doing better; and it’s down to him and the lack of any identity, faves, playing out of position and coaching why we’re like this. Trouble is the owners aren’t in a position to get rid and no other manager of any worth will want to come to a club on the slide no ambition and a 12 point reduction hanging over us.
Great result, and performance against a poorer version of us, I said he needed a min of 5 and we have have 6 and it really should have been 7. Has the team greatly improved performance wise since the restart.. no.. has there been a noticeable difference in some aspects yes. let’s see what the next 3 bring - Derby, Wrexham, Preston. - Min 6 points - and a continuation of improvement, maybe get Donavan in.

Best man for the job this shitshow season. Won't be pretty, but we'll win as many as we'll lose and not be relegated IMO.

Reset in the summer 👍
Ive said all along that this season was about staying out of trouble , very few legacy contracts and allowing some another season to develop .

Was never going to be pretty , but the championship is notoriously unpredictable so top 8 or bottom 3 are never far apart.

A very long way to go

We had a similar discussion the other day, on a different thread and I still stand by what I was said after the Portsmouth defeat and that if Wilder goes it would be forwards the end of the season when safety is assured as I’m not convinced a managerial change mid season would pay off like some think it would.

I was delighted with the win yesterday, and the return of 6 points from the last 3 games is positive and we now sit in the top half.

There is a lot of mitigation about why we probably won’t be pushing for promotion. Selling 3 of the best players and not giving Wilder the funds to replace them is obviously hampering Wilder as it would any other manager.

I also think at the minute there is a loud and angry minority who have made their mind up about him and are the first to take to the forum and other forms of social media with their strident critique but are oddly quiet when things don’t go their way.

Lose to either Derby or Preston and the knives will be back out. Got to be looking at 6 points from those two and a point at least v Wrexham. Would be nice to go on a bit of a run for a change....

win them both be in top 6,,,, considering weve been carrying recoveringlong term injured players like Arblaster and Philips who seem to be close to match fit and half a team sold from under him we arent doing too badd , the defeats have not been trouncings , and had some awful decisions go against us

Knowing our luck, Brewster will score the winner when we play Derby. O'hare will bag a hat-rick of assists for Moore and be MOTM against Disney and we will give Preston the points on a plate haha!

Agree, and looking at the next 5 fixtures we should hopefully pick up a good amount of points. Derby H, Wrexham H, Preston A, Charlton, A, Watford H. In reality those next 5 could define our season. Pick up 10 to 12 points, (which we should at least) and we put ourselves top 8 comfortably and the board might just allow some funds in January. Pick up 6 or less and we will be looking at bottom 8 and a whole different landscape.

Always good to get 3 points but the performances lately are still hit & miss.
A season of treading water really unless we get new owners, more investment but don't see a clear out for a new manager and backroom team, including recruitment, coming any time soon.

It's sub optimal but just is what it is

not seen many teams that look top 2 ready,,, Burnleys been pòor boro are hit and miss swansea got top but wont last,, west ham look to be up there , millwalls gone off the boil and QPR looked vin ordinare at brum,,,, its wide open and100 points still to play for

I do wonder for those that are critical of Wilder how they'd be if we were in Derbys position or Norwich city?! Saying that, I'm sure every club is the same and they'll be possibly more fans at Derby and Norwich wanting their manager gone than to stay. I rate Eustace a lot, not sure why that's gone so wrong. Signing Brewster hasn't helped them much! 😂 Now that was an awful Wilder signing but he'd done really well at Swansea you have to admit?! 😂 I remember thinking it was a top signing.

I just hope someone appoints Dave Challibor before Wednesday eventually realise that Pederson is very average.

Looking at those fixtures, and it says to me, we should be getting at least 12pts all look winnable on paper Preston, Derby and Charlton are in dreadful form just now.

I read somewhere the Derby owners pulled the plug on any signings over the summer.
