I don’t know where I’m at with it. The main people to blame for this are the board, we’re all agreed on that surely. He had his team sold out from under him and not replaced for the full summer. The only reason I would think about him leaving is just the wilder that was so good isn’t really here at the moment. We don’t take games to teams and we just feel sorry for ourselves. That was never what it used to be like. We play wolves and treat them like Barcelona and keep Donovan on bench and play desperately for a 0-0. We’ve got marsh and Sachdev out on loan doing well which is good but I’d rather them be around the team.

Portsmouth are a big physical side. Why not play One and Campbell from the start. It made sense. I have serious doubts about Wilder
Please explain to me what Campbell has done this season and the end of last to justify a starting place ?
He looks slow unfit and uninterested, I want Wilder gone more than anybody but I'm not going to bash him for not starting Campbell.
Now not having One on the bench instead of Campbell is a different argument, unless One was injured.

A back and forth with AI, after I'd looked at statistical rankings and details and put them together in one 'pack' led to this output -

I put United’s statistical profile into it alongside what we can actually see about how we attack, and I think this is a pretty fair description of where we are.

Essentially, we look like a passive, low-output Championship side. We attack almost exclusively through wide areas, but seem to overwork those situations, waiting for the ideal position before putting the ball into the box. The result is the strange situation where a team that spends so much time trying to build down the wings is actually bottom of the league for both shots and crosses. We make crossing and shooting incredibly difficult for ourselves because we seem reluctant to accept an imperfect attacking opportunity.

The real concern is what happens at the other end. While we're taking the fewest shots and putting in the fewest crosses, we're allowing opponents the most shots and the second-most crosses. So we're making opponents achieve the things we struggle to do ourselves far more easily. We’re too easy to push backwards, spend too long without controlling territory and consequently allow teams to sustain pressure against us.

At the moment, two things are keeping that underlying profile looking more respectable than it perhaps is: we're unusually clinical when we do finally create a chance, and our goalkeeper has the 6th-best save percentage in the division. That's why we're 15th for goals scored and 13th for goals conceded despite some pretty concerning underlying numbers.

It might keep us competitive in individual matches because the keeper keeps us in games and occasionally one of those carefully constructed chances gets converted. But over a 46-game season, routinely losing the shots and crosses battle by those sorts of margins doesn't look sustainable.

That's the bit that worries me most. It doesn't necessarily say we're a terrible team. It says we're relying on efficiency at both ends to compensate for a lack of output and control. If the finishing or goalkeeping drops back towards average, the underlying numbers suggest a side much closer to a relegation battle than a comfortable mid-table one.

It’s still early ish in the season of course, but as I put in my last post there’s nothing to hang your hat onto.

We’re still slow.
Still unfit.
Still without a clear game plan or tactics.
Still easy to score against (arguably easier given all the shots we are conceding).
No interesting /future signings in the transfer market.
Many players still underperforming their ability.

Even one of these improving over the infamous summer regroup and refresh would be a cause of positivity, but there’s none.

I’m against sacking managers in general, but I can’t see at the moment where we end up. We and Wilder himself have been regressing for years.

I’d also add that this also lays at the door of the board. We desperately need a football person in there to focus on a long-term strategy that’s not just “let’s hope we win enough to go up and get premier league money” - which is what Bettis basically said in his recent interview; which is more of an outcome than a strategy, anyway.

Just out of interest when wouldn't it be pointless to sack him ?

Slow boring football✅️
Home Crowds down✅️
Away following down✅️
Fan base split down the middle✅️
Club going in one direction and its not forward.. ✅️
At a time when his replacement wouldn't be so compromised by this garbage squad

Nah get the new manager in now let him assess the squad. Hopefully a few loans in January maybe shift a couple on they don't fancy then rebuild in the summer
Despite the owners being useless and that we STILL have no proper structure... I definitely would like a new manager and coaching staff - maybe after we lose at Ashton Gate on Saturday. There are plenty of perfectly good managers available. We can't keep pretending it'll be okay - we've been a poor team for a long time and we continue to be.

Let the new leadership work with the squad and use January to start implementing longer term plan.

For me; there’s likely no money in January, seemingly little boardroom level interest or direction, with owners in a highly publicised legal dispute (or two) and a potential points deduction being reported. I’m not sure who we’d attract as manager in that context? Severely damaged goods at Champ level? It’s a highway to absolutely nothing as an opportunity.

The pragmatic assessment is IMHO - is the chance of getting a good manager, in that context, higher than the chance of us staying up in the current trajectory?

Until we are enmeshed in the relegation zone, we stick IMHO.

Most managerial changes occur during the November international break. So if he was to go (he wont btw) it will be then. Although whoever comes in aint polishing this turd

Said it numerous times painted ourselves in to a corner with wilder …

Owners not interested

Fall out with previous owners

Owe money

Possible point deduction

Not money for squad improvements

Who else would want the job who was any good …

The rot has well and truly set in and it won’t change any time soon….

Crap owners
Poor manager
Terrible football

There are 0 redeeming features about our club right now.

But as a fan you have to back them and support them come what may good times and bad.

Perfectly worded to the core 👏

It's more of a pipe dream than either a strategy or an outcome !
We haven't hit rock bottom and found our level yet but it's soon January , we're skint and our level is
"clinging onto our place in the Championship"

I said min points 5 out of those three games after the international break reset, he really needed to show us something different, has he? so he needs to win tomorrow. I was in the in band, but if we lose tomorrow and don’t see anything to suggest we’re improving or that he’s learnt from past mistakes then he’s out for me. I’m sick to death of this nothing football, this group of players should be doing better; and it’s down to him and the lack of any identity, faves, playing out of position and coaching why we’re like this. Trouble is the owners aren’t in a position to get rid and no other manager of any worth will want to come to a club on the slide no ambition and a 12 point reduction hanging over us.

I'm often struck when I read Roy's pre match comments from opposition fans though how similar they are to our own, boring, side to side football, if he loses this the manager has to go etc. This could be the thought process of every clubs fans who aren't having their expectations met.

So many managers seem to be doing it that the pool of progressive managers must be dwindling but we all want one.

It starts with having owners having the drive to move a club forward and then continues with a manager who can assemble a side of young, fit players who can take the game to the opposition, defend when they need to, then counter attack quickly.

Knowing the destination is one thing but making the journey is another. We've done it before, hopefully we can do it again.
