Here’s a question, irrespective of your held views on Wilder what position is the cutting point for pulling the trigger of changing manager at the end of the season. I.e what constitutes an acceptable season, or passing grade for Wilder?

Current view: On fence, erring towards Wilder in.

Sackable: bottom half finish and I’d probably opt for a change of manager

Keep: Top half but not playoffs is probably a okay outcome, with playoffs representing an excellent outcome in current situation.

I’m intrigued on how the tipping point would differ depending on your currently held in or out view.
I think I’ve been relatively critical of some of the individual decisions of late but I’m probably at a “Chris, please do less of that” or “Chris please don’t do that” when you can see obvious moves that eat into his credit rather than a “throw the lot out”.

There is a special feeling with a Unitedite at the helm, for me, at least, and you know it isn’t just a job for them. Us doing well and a Blade at the helm felt extra special. But I can also appreciate you can’t be ruled by sentiment to the nth degree.

But I do think there is a lot the club has to do, and I’m not convinced with the current owners that them introducing another variable will improve things.

In the next month I’d expect some players to sign new deals. Those that don’t will need to be up for offers in January. That then creates opportunity to raise more cash. There are a couple of projects which need it: Dore development and BLUT roof not to mention the team.

Getting more out of this bunch whilst potentially trimming further and allowing little investment is going to be a thankless task.

When would be the tipping point? If it looked like the players were phoning it in; clearly by the fight shown on Wednesday they aren’t. Or if we dropped onto the bottom three and started to look in free fall.

Whilst part of me feels he has oddly doubled down now on 4-4-2, another part thinks he might just have enough players back from injury to start getting results. It has been undeniably rough to be without Gus, Brooksy and O’Hare to then find ourselves shorn of the pace and creativity of Oné, Seriki, Chong and Burrows. Yes I would have done things differently, gone 4-3-3 but losing your top 3 creators only to then lose 4 of the next best ones is hard to absorb for any team.

For me, next ‘review’ should be December before the window arrives. We can’t just operate in a scenario debating the manager’s position after each game. It’s not healthy. We need to be behind the manager and team and with players returning look to see a run emerge.

As much as we can comment negatively on the team, there are plenty of teams doing ok whose playing staff we wouldn’t be that bothered about.

For one, Cooper, Kitching, Phillips, Bamford is a very good spine at this level. We just need them to be fit and those around them to reach some fitness and consistency.

I think he’s way too arrogant to “introspect” these days.

My only reservation with getting rid is what we saw last time with Seles - it seems he’s involved more with the day to day other duties than we thought.

I’d be happy to part ways if it was part of an overhaul of the whole footballing structure of the club. With these owners though, I’m not sure if I’d trust them to hold a schoolyard raffle 😬
Every managerial change is a risk.

He has created an environment where he is THE central character. THE biggest Blade and no one can succeed other than him. Too many bought it.
For that reason, and set against what we see, week in, week out, he should be helped on his way.

'Culture' is nothing more than a cover for failings at this point.

This is my big issue. The Wilder of 16-20 would do whatever it took to win, when we couldn’t stamp our authority games he’d adapt.

Since the LMA award he’s become his own biggest fan, freezing out players he’s had disagreements with, sniping at previous boards, sniping at fans that disagree with him, picking fights with pundits, picking fights with other managers and players, snarky with journos…. The chip on his shoulder must be weighing him down these days because he can’t stand any form of introspection or criticism.

Everything he does is right and how dare anyone disagree.
I mostly agree, and this has been the case for a long time.
In fairness to CW, in the injuries interview yesterday (?) that's in here, he mentioned Portsmouth game. He said we could have gone solid and try to hold on to the draw, but he wanted to push still and that's his responsibility for it ending up a loss.
Is he changing his ways on that front?
