Will you still appreciate him if we get relegated or will that be someone else's fault and not on him at all?
Yes, I will still appreciate him. I will appreciate everything good that he's done for this club over the many, many years he's had a professional association with us. I will also continue to understand that he's human and that, as such, he isn't perfect; he has flaws and makes mistakes just like everyone else.
I often see, on here, the accusation that those of us still supporting Wilder are blind to his faults, that we're in a cult, and that he can do no wrong with us. That's nonsense. I know he has faults. The difference is that I don't and won't hold the fact that he's human, and has faults and imperfections, against him.
I hope that we won't get relegated, but if we do, I will understand and appreciate that he will have done his absolute level best to avoid that outcome, and I won't allow one relegation working under extremely difficult circumstances, to tarnish my memories of the good times I've enjoyed under his stewardship, or to tarnish my appreciation for him and what he's achieved for this club, both as manager and player.
Others have seemingly already allowed the fact that he's not perfect, that he couldn't pull off keeping us in the top flight playing innovative, exciting football forever, to tarnish their feelings for him, and their memories of the good times with him. I find that sad. Life is difficult and stressful enough, without allowing the fact that magical moments don't last forever, to spoil your enjoyment and appreciation of those magical moments.
I will continue to look for the good. I will continue to look at my avatar and see one of my all-time favourite managers holding up the shirt of one of my all-time favourite players and know that there is beauty in that picture. There is the beauty of a man having such respect, such appreciation, and such love, for a player sadly lost, that he carries that player's shirt around with him to every match, and holds it high. And the beauty of knowing that, while that player's life was cut cruelly short, within that life, however short, there was joy, success, celebration and happiness, in part because of his time spent with us enjoying the achievements and success that were brought about, in part, because of his relationship with the man holding his shirt.
So, yes, I will continue to appreciate Chris Wilder. I won't allow the fact that he's not perfect and can't keep the best times going forever because he's human, to spoil everything good, everything positive, and everything joyous, that he's brought to my club, my memories, and my life.
