Individually maybe not, but collectively Wilder should be getting more out of this squad than he’s currently getting even after game day 1. Last season’s end wasn’t pretty either. He’s a spent force.

You may well be right, but I am not sure there is a better replacement at this point in the season. Perhaps when Carrick is sacked he will drop back to the Championship !

We blew the 3-0 lead at Villa in the Championship. Despite his complete regression as a manager from that moment on, we somehow got promoted to the Premier League (and then stayed up the next season). Maybe he had a delayed reaction.

All the team seemed to be working tighter together, as if to make up for the loss of Hamer. The penny has dropped that there's no one to stick a worldy in from the halfway line, so they each weren't quite as lazy as they all were last season.
That said Brum should have won, our defence has improved mainly through playing with a goalie for a change

Theres elements that I agree with but to say he changed after the 3-3 to Villa is a load of rubbish. Look at our results after that game, also look at the stats of those games, we battered teams.

Then think back to the first season in the premiership, consider the 3-3 vs Man Utd where we took the game right to them, we attacked Tottenham on their own turf. We gave Liverpool a game at home. Played extremely well vs City away, battered Chelsea at home.

Wilder is not the same manager as back then & the team don’t have the same ruthlessness I get that, but the villa game was not the changing point.

I think elsewhere you’ve said he changed when we were relegated, I’d agree more with that

The negativity started in the promotion season away at Villa. After we threw away a 3-0 lead and drew 3-3 we became tight until the end of the season and stopped playing with freedom and flair. That continued in the Premier League where he adopted a flat midfield three. We played some good football in the Premier League but it was built around a solid defence that didn't give up much and we were hard to beat.

We only scored 39 goals in 38 games that season which was a warning sign for what was to come after the "greatest transfer window ever," the following season. We failed to score in a lot of games but this went unnoticed as fans were caught up in the mania due to how high up the table we were, and because our inability to score was often offset by not conceding at the other end.

Fans still rave about McBurnie being our top scorer that season and quote it when he's labelled an expensive flop. He cost £17mil and only scored 6 goals. Fleck scored 5 and he cost us nothing. Lundstram scored 5. Mousset scored 6 and he only cost £10mil and couldn't play for more than 60 minutes. McGoldrick scored 8 the following season in our relegation season and he was a free transfer.

I'll never understand why our fans champion mediocrity and accept it as a standard that we should always achieve.

Because he's a blade ...that's it.

It's a new team, has to be now our 2 best forwards are gone.

1) yep, think that was clear for all to see this season with loss of parachute payments and new rules around finance

2) we have signed 4 players, 2 on loan, 2 permanent. 2 permanent bring experience and proven quality at PL/champ level

3) last season, we would have lost that game. Our defence was a joke. Tighten up was clearly the idea and we know that another 1 or 2 CBs is a almost a guarantee before the window closes

4) someone else said wilder doesn't have a clue, I think wilders direction is trying to replicate and improve on our season 2 years ago. Tough to break down. It might not be sexy football but with limited money, Its probably not a bad plan

5) I only listened on radio but crowd sounded half decent and interested, players sounded like they were working hard for each other and put a shift in.
