They were. But its 2 seasons of really struggling to consistently bear decent teamsIpswich & stoke were big wins at the time & didn't realise how bad leicester would go on to be in either game
if it's more of the same then i believe we will move on
What has he done if not turn it around? We were on six losses in a row when he came in. Was he supposed to get us promoted from that position? He's had sufficient time this season to turn it around
After 6 games we were 6 points behind Southampton who were 19th and 5 behind Derby who were 21st.What has he done if not turn it around? We were on six losses in a row when he came in. Was he supposed to get us promoted from that position?
You didn't mention Wilder by name, no. That said, is there any other manager, that you could have been referring to here:
I hardly see why those "ludicrous short-sighted calls" would be referencing Bassett or Hecky, considering neither of them is currently our manager.
But feel free to keep claiming a straw man to make yourself feel better.
Wilder needed the break more than the club he was physically and mentally cooked.I am not a Wilder fanatic, but I am a pro not sacking him this summer.
Its a strange rationale but here is my reasoning.
January 2024- Wilder appointed in the PL with a task of rebuilding the side. We got relegated but he was given the task of a squad rebuild.
Summer transfer window 2024- huge turnover of players, we brought in some good signings but it was fairly obvious that we weren't quite finished.
December 2024- Doing well in the league, injuries had meant bringing in academy players showing again the squad wasn't quite finished.
May 2025- having been top at Christmas, we miss out on autos and then mess up the play off final.
If we had kept him last summer and let him carry on the journey, we could have decided if it wasn't working to then get rid.
As it stands now, we are basically in the same place (but worse off) that 2 years ago.
I hope this doesn't happen but Wilder needs to leave the club either on a high or on a very clear low all of his making.
That way we can all move on from him one way or another.
bringing in a new manager this summer will just lead to a repeat of last summer unless very quickly they have amazing success... with no money... and a crap squad.
You seen our home form lately ?What has he done if not turn it around? We were on six losses in a row when he came in. Was he supposed to get us promoted from that position?
"Perfectly reasonable response"? Yeah, I'm sure everyone on this forum goes out of their way to find a cartoon depiction of a straw man. That seems a perfectly ordinary thing to do.I made a perfectly reasonable response to your post, it's a shame you couldn't have responded in kind, instead of resorting to a nasty, sneery little dig. However...
I'll feel free to keep appreciating people who've done well for this club and to keep making perfectly reasonable posts to that effect, and you feel free to keep making nasty, sneery little digs at both Wilder and posters like me who appreciate him. It seems nasty, sneery little digs is all you're capable of, so crack on, I'll not waste any more of my time reading it.
14 points from past ten home games. Averaging 1.4 points per game. Not the best I agree but not certainly not the worst. You seen our home form lately ?
& would be 2 wins in 15 v promoted teams in the last 2 seasonsThey were. But its 2 seasons of really struggling to consistently bear decent teams
Agree with you and Dkc, both make perfect sense. After 6 games we were 6 points behind Southampton who were 19th and 5 behind Derby who were 21st.
Southampton currently 4th, Derby 8th (4 points off playoffs with 2 to play)
Wilder got us safe, but to make out he’s achieved anything extraordinary is nonsense.
I enjoyed the second half of the Hull game - well, maybe the last quarterYou seen our home form lately ?
Or 5 points from the last 6. The obly win coming courtesy of the red and penalty vs hull.14 points from past ten home games. Averaging 1.4 points per game. Not the best I agree but not certainly not the worst.
I agree it's been a mediocre season. Knocked out of both cups early and a mid-table finish. Imagine the flak Wilder would have got for finishing mid-table if the Selles debacle hadn't happened.Agree with you and Dkc, both make perfect sense.
Under both Clough and Adkins the squads were terrible compared to this squad. It's quite frightening the position we are in I cannot remember in all my life such a poor squad of players we have.
The question is who could come in and maybe get a tune out of these players also start the process of wheeling and dealing to get rid of the Dross and bring new players in.
Wilder has first hand experience of the squad is it worth giving him the summer to rebuilt?.
If we had owners and someone at the club who knows football to sit down with Wilder today and ask him what the plan is surely they have decided who goes and what we need to bring in.
Get this wrong and we are in serious trouble.
Davies has done well but before Cooper's injury we were on course for a top six finish. The slump coincided with McCallum's injury too, though he wasn't starting every game.We saw during our best form, that we could have got promoted from the league this season. What happened to that form?! It didn't just fade, it was worse than that.
We have multiple better players than almost every other team in the league. There are excuses available but I'm not sure they should be needed.
Performances and metrics were low standard enough last season that CW lost his job. I have sympathy with the circumstances, but I'm not sure I've still got the patience.
I don't imagine CW will build a new squad that will evolve and compete over a 3-5 year period - that's why I'd prefer he gracefully steps away now (with a big, positive send off final home game) and we employ a management structure DoF etc + Head Coach which can roll with the punches for years to come, future planning at all times.
It wasnt the only win, we won vs Watford too.... but their players was on holiday as well and couldnt wait for season to finish as well... going through the motions.Or 5 points from the last 6. The obly win coming courtesy of the red and penalty vs hull.
November - December time we was flying, playing some good attacking football with 2 strikers and 2 high wide wingers (almost a front 4)... we pressed high and quickly and attacked with purpose. We all thought it was the turn around almost but done 5 points off the play offs with a good chunk of games left and those above to play. Then all of a sudden like a light switch just went off..and we reverted bsck to being inconsistent poor play and games also formations changing again going back to trying to sit in.We saw during our best form, that we could have got promoted from the league this season. What happened to that form?! It didn't just fade, it was worse than that.

Cup games have always been the same under wilder i think there was 1 season where we got to quater final and it was covid season at our best. One thing that annoys me is his attitude to cup games and the the rotation of players when there is three games in a week.
We have dropped points at home due to this many times when we have played a weaker team with one eye on the following game .
Think Norwich at home.

Someone sent one through after 30 seconds on Wednesday. Guess what Tom did.We haven't got a single midfielder who can play a simple throughball for Cannon to run onto, closest we have is CO'H but he tends to hold onto it for far too long.
I do agree and said as much when it happened RE Cooper>Davies drop off. It's the only real excuse I think.Davies has done well but before Cooper's injury we were on course for a top six finish. The slump coincided with McCallum's injury too, though he wasn't starting every game.
There does seem to be a correlation between McCallum and Cooper picking up injury and our form getting worse.Davies has done well but before Cooper's injury we were on course for a top six finish. The slump coincided with McCallum's injury too, though he wasn't starting every game.
To be fair to Wilder, Southampton were underperforming with the squad they had. United’s squad was poorly assembled and simply incapable of the form Saints are now showing. After 6 games we were 6 points behind Southampton who were 19th and 5 behind Derby who were 21st.
Southampton currently 4th, Derby 8th (4 points off playoffs with 2 to play)

I'm a massive FA Cup fan but the club may as well not enter the League Cup for all of the effort that the players and managers put in over the time I've been watching us. Wev'e got past the last 16 twice in nearly 50 years. Pathetic. Wilder is one of the biggest culprits.Cup games have always been the same under wilder i think there was 1 season where we got to quater final and it was covid season at our best.
Hes never treated any cup with respect nor the fans. And then they wonder why we only get 5k in a 3rd round match. Its also as players that go out cant be arsed either and usually its a piss poor performance who ever he puts out, its disrespectful to the fans.
They had the huge handicap of Will Still who, like his brother at Watford, is incapable of managing at this level. To be fair to Wilder, Southampton were underperforming with the squad they had. United’s squad was poorly assembled and simply incapable of the form Saints are now showing.
That for me is the main difference.
i was saying at work. since wilder took over we are 9th in the table (excluding 1st 5). which is hard to believe because i don't believe we have been the 9th best team in the league since September. & yet there we areOr 5 points from the last 6. The obly win coming courtesy of the red and penalty vs hull.
