IMO we should have got Defoe in exchange

According to the Guardian his 3 year deal was worth £20m including signing on fee.

Not only is that a lot more than they are paying for Brooks, but it works out at £128k per week. That gives you some idea of the money swashing about for the lower league Premier teams and why we can't compete.

Brooks will have doubled or trebeled his current deal with the promise of further riches down the line. Anyone who says we should play hardball as 'it's only Bournemouth' is not living in the real world.

For me, he's a great prospect but not currently integral to the team. Indeed, he doesn't really fit into our style of play. If we can spend 2/3 of the fee to improve the team then great. If he sits in our reserves for a year his value goes down. Wilder doesn't play footballers who want to leave. We have more chance of going up without him if the money is reinvested.

Completely irrelevant. Brooks was on a 4 year pro contract which means United are entitled to negotiate their own terms for the sale.

Hirst was on an academy contract which means the pigs could negotiate fuck all. About £0.5m compensation in accordance with the rules would probably have been the best they could have got had he gone to an English club. That's why they stuck out for so long as they had fuck all to lose.

The other big difference is that Hirst is a pig and Brooks isn't.

They had loads to lose and they lost it when they failed to get him to sign a professional contract. And when he turned down their offer (£1k a week apparently) they continued to pay his academy contract wages for a year instead of trying to ship him off to Leicester for a sensible fee.

It seems that although most people are familiar with the phrase ‘player power’ a lot don’t seem to appreciate what it actually means. Including the fuckwits running Wednesday.
