...Ive been terrible at golf this year so watching the Blades will be a joy.
Crikey! Tha' must be rubbish.
I can pass on the number of our golf pro if you want![]()
Which Club is it? I've almost given in decided its time for lessons
But the club has turned its collective attentions inwards with scant preparation for fans shrugging their shoulders and staying away.
Lees Hall.
Haha Ive just booked my first round there an hour ago. Youl have some fresh new divets all over your course by Sunday evening![]()
Bet Roger Bannister wishes he had been botn later
Bloody hell, if Linz feels like that, there is no hope! There were a load in the Golf Club last night... who used to be die-hard, travel all over the country fans.
Now two have got season tickets but don't know if they can be bothered to use them. The others just haven't bothered. They know they can get tickets if they need them but would rather spend their money on golf holidays to Portugal. One lad said he could get his dose of misery from a poor round of 18 holes, but get over it with a pint or two in the sunshine.
One lad at work who isn't a season ticket holder went to the game v. Burton. He's said he isn't going again until the team look like they deserve his support. He doesn't know when that will be.
The hangover from last season is endemic. But the club has turned its collective attentions inwards with scant preparation for fans shrugging their shoulders and staying away.
As for me... guess I've got nowt better to do. But I've got no defence against the gloating pigs and I can't exactly say I'm looking forward to this season. I'm already planning to miss some away games. Not bothered to sign up to the automatic cup scheme seeing as they cocked it up... so I might just end up picking and choosing those matches too. The club might need my money, but I might just end up needing it more.
Personally I’m not. It’s not because I’ve fallen out of love with the Blades. I think that remains, but this season seems to have come around too soon. I don't intend to be negative, just putting out what I am thinking at the moment. I think these are the reasons why...
Football in General – FIFA, UEFA, the FA, the PL, the Champions League and England have all at some point got my back up. I’d be lying if I didn’t mention West ham and the PL, but its scandal after scandal, it’s the racism issue, its diving, spitting, general lack of sportsmanship and of course it’s the obscene amount of money in the game. On top of this, the clubs are no longer clubs, they’re Hollywood studios with a bunch of actors who cannot be seen to interact with the adoring fans. Football just feels so detached and the sport is soiled with arrogance and the untouchables.
The end to last season – By the Exeter game i’d had enough. The Ched situation knocked me for six in many ways and left me a little numb about the end of the season run in. I enjoyed the games at the back of the season, but Exeter was my season swan song, I just couldn’t be bothered with the remainder of the season. As for Ched, it got to me a) because he was stupid enough to do that. They must be told about this sort of thing in the Academies and have it drummed into them throughout their careers? And b) that he got done for it. If the season had ended at MK dons I probably wouldn’t have noticed. The pigs going up instead of us was a major blow, but I can’t see what else the team could’ve put in last season. I will say though that last season was one of the most enjoyable for years, but it’s another season in League 3 with more of the same to come.
No Morgan – Sure he’s been out for a season and a half, but it’s a big blow. I know he’s not the most gifted of footballers with the ball at his feet but for leadership, for determination, never say die attitude and experience, we’ve lost a player that has ended up being sorely missed.
Euro 2012 – it was dour. Not much to get excited about all round. It was too stale and FIFA/ UEFA need to relax a lot with these tournaments as they are now too commercial, too stale, too predictable. We need more Republic of Ireland’s
Holidays and increasing my exercise regime – Had a couple of cracking holidays since the season ended. Went to the Austrian Alps did lots of Hiking with our lass and our 18 mth old Labrador, done lots of walking around Switzerland, had a great holiday to Cyprus, got into road biking a lot and of course had a cheeky weekend at the Olympics.
Other events – This has been the big one, thankfully. The jubilee was a great little warm up. But then Tour de France took over my life for 3 weeks, no bullshit, just riders working hard for their teams, gruelling uphill climbs, sportsmanship and of course British winners. But if Wiggins hadn’t won, i’d have still been impressed by the likes of Sagan.
Then came the highlight, the Olympics, 2 weeks of absolute joy. Team GB were amazing, but the whole event reminds you that there is more to life than pampered footballers. Mo Farah, Usain Bolt, Jess Ennis, Chris Hoy, Laura Trott, Brad Wiggins, Laura Pendleton, The double trap shooter, the kayakers, Ben Ainslie – all of them just showed what the sport meant to them. Not money, no question of weekly salary, just determination to push themselves as fast, high, further than they had before – in search of that PB and hopefully Gold, Silver or Bronze. The two rowers that got Silver and were so disappointed made me realise how much this means.
I was lucky enough to get tickets and seeing the events first hand gets you. Mo Farah was amazing, Usain Bolt awesome. But the American girl jumping her PB on her final jump in the High Jump to leapfrog from fourth to 2nd just sticks with me. I can’t even remember her name, but will remember her in 4 years time. The roar of the crowd and seeing her jumping around like a loon just showed how much it meant to her.
I think all in all this has summed up my feeling. I’m just not ready for the footy season yet. I’m due back to the lane for my first game on 1st Sept v AFC Bournemouth, perhaps when I get back on the carling, Peters pies and hear the GCB i’ll be more up for it, but now its just too early for me to be ready.
Well I'll be there tomorrow.
I want to be there and I expect. Giving up doesn't seem to be an option to me.
I never have and will not accept mediocrity as some would suggest.
I've seen all the heartache since 1968.
I'm still a Blade and I will be there!
Will you?
Wish I could join you. I know I would be there all the time if I didn't have this little ocean in the way. Have a great day and a pint or two for me.Well I'll be there tomorrow.

To draw a parallel with the 'lympics - I am of the mind that our current squad is pretty full of kayakers
I pay my license fee so they should provide me with atleast an option of something different whether they made money off it or not doesnt bother me unless they are going to give me some of that money as a refund for having no BBC to watch for a fortnight.
Sorry so say I hated doing athletics at school an still hate watching most of the track and field events all these years later so the Olympics have been a big turn off for me, I just cant see no skill in running in circles or throwing different lumps of metal the furthest, to me just a test of strength or endurance. Being cynical it could be argued the winners are sometimes the one's who leave it the latest to stop taking performance enhancing substances without being caught. Media coverage especially on the TV has been way too much still back to the boring soaps and repeats of repeats, good old BBC the robbing bastards.
Having said that I can't get too excited about the start of the football season either league one is very very poor and the Premiership is all about who has the most money you can virtually name the top 6 every season, it is about as boring as the SLP which Celtic are sure to win again...................... now a ST for Sheffield FC ??? there's an idea
