Born in 1954, so my football choices in Worksop were a bit limited. Aged 5/6 i was sucked into the Spurs glory days, Blanchflower, McKay, Cliff Jones etc.
Once I became aware that my big brother was a blades fan and allowed at age 11 to get the bus to the lane, I was smitten. As a short arse I only caught glimpses of my heroes, but the atmosphere standing on the old kop was mesmerising.
The only other footie we got was MotD, until 1966 and the world cup.
I favoured Roger Hunt industrious) over Jimmy Greaves (poacher), so gradually my second team choice moved to Liverpool and they didn't disappoint. Clemence Lawler St John Hunt, through to colour TV and Toshack Keegan Smith Lloyd crazy horse, these lads made watching on telly much more exciting.
In real life it was alternate weekends at the lane with Badger Shaw Hodgkinson Woodward Reece and Currie.

The last cup game I saw at the Lane was against Liverpool. Gerrard had a stinker lol

I still look for Spurs and Liverpool results after ours, and before Wendys.

Cordoba C.F ⚽ 🇳🇬🇪🇸
Now playing in Spanish third division
We hate Betis.

Fort William. Always finish bottom of the Highland league. Well someone's got got to support the underdog. Very, very rarely win, frequently concede 5 goals or more (once 13). Pitch prone to waterlogging.

That question makes me want to throw up.......I’m so partisan I don’t really give a monkeys about watching football unless we are playing. I’m a terrible neutral and only ever get excited about 2 other teams playing each other.....when I’ve got a bet riding on it.

St Johnstone

My favourite Scottish team. Mrs Jansky & I called into the ground on the way to Pitlochry in May, intending to visit the club shop which, it transpires, only opens on Saturday mornings.

They couldn’t have been friendlier, insisted on giving us a stadium tour before sending us on our way with a very nice mug, which I am currently sipping my morning coffee from.

Lovely city, Perth.

Second teams are one up from half amd half scarves! :)

Rubbish. It can be for a variety of reasons and we’ve heard a few of them in this thread. If, as in my case, you end up living 300+ miles from the Lane for a while but still want to regularly watch football you can’t help developing an affinity with whoever you watch.

Always had a soft spot forr Sheffield Wednesday, i think they're much maligned

That's a bit inconsistent. Everton are prod bastards. Liverpool are the Catholics.
Other way round pal. Everton was seen as the catholic club and liverpool as the prods during the darker days of sectarianism. Neither actually had any particular religious links on founding as both were involved with methodism but quickly broke out from that. The reason Liverpool gets seen as being a 'catholic' team nowadays is all the glory supporters from Ireland choosing them as their English side in the 70s/80s and beyond.

Neither side can truly be said to be catholic or prod these days though as so many scouse families are split allegiance wise.

This is some great reading on the subject

Tend to pick them by country and life’s quirky experiences.
Scotland - Berwick - sad demise had a great day there once watching them play. Met the players really welcoming club.
Spain - Athletic Bilbao - red and white stripe love. Their kits were/are always on the mark.
Germany - St Pauli - what they stand for.
Italy - Piacenza - I was one of the idiots who went there to watch SU play in the Anglo Italian cup, had a good time.
France - St Etienne- great band.

France (or Monaco)- Monaco
Spain -Real Madrid
Germany - Schalke
Holland -Ajax
Italy - Roma

I used to get a shirt for each of these teams in my younger days.

Exeter city ,Hereford or Barnsley. Soft spot for them all .When we drew 4-4 with Exeter I actually sat in Bramall lane lower...

The family team is Brentford, it used to be much easier to like them...

Brentford that is, not my family - I still like them 🤣

Our lass and her mates are all Lincoln City supporters so they're my second team. The Cowley brothers have brought a sense of pride back to their football club, and their promotion out of the National League as champions mirrored our own from League 1 that year. Although as I gleefully pointed out, they didn't hit 100 pts.
Also like Ajax. Besides the Cruyff and the early 70s European dominance, I went on a stag weekend to Amsterdam 20 years ago and we inadvertently ended up being shown a great night out by a bunch of Ajax fans.Good bunch of lads.
Mental, but a good bunch.

Got to agree, there are some very black and white statements on here, you are not allowed to like something else as well, I hope they don't have more than 1 kid. I love my wife most but I feel allowed to like Kylie Minogue as a very close second.

I keep an eye out for MK Dons because they started out as the exact opposite of what Wimbledon had become, played football, built a fan base, gave young English managers a chance, built a ground they could afford and future proofed it and pissed off a load of forthright speaking people in the process.

Thanks for that - will give it a read.

Hallam FC probably.

As a young kid, I used to like the Scottish teams because they had such weird, exotic names like Queen of the South and Partick Thistle, or Heart of Midlothian, Hamilton Academical.

Shafted my arse! They gave up on their club but call the moral high ground. How many times have we been shafted?! We stuck through. Same as most of the others in the league. Wimbledon (the original) were in admin and available for sale but the dons trust et al rather jumped ship to a new club. And then further down the line shafted other clubs. If United moved to azerbaigavenny I'd still support United. I have the most respect for those few who followed Wimbledon to MK, they are the true football fans. AFC Wimbledon are a horrible turncoat outfit.

IMO.

Favourite international side Holland 1974, first proper world cup I ever watched. Cruyff was a genius. Broke my heart when muscle bound Gerd Muller scored the winner in't final.
Got my mum to buy me an orange t shirt and told her I wanted to be Dutch because of that team. Don’t think I went as far as to talk like Schteve though!!
