I started following the blades in 1971.
I come from a family of wednesdayites and I have to admit in the promotion season of that year I became an 8 year old glory hunter.
Now during these past 39 years in reality we have won fuck all. I dare say during my next 39 years we will win another fuck all. So what. I don't give a fuck.
I am BLADE THROUGH AND THROUGH.
United are my team, always have been always will be. They are now my kids team. Had I remained an owl with the rest of my family my kids would now be pigs. But they are Blades and they wouldn't have it any other way.
In 1971 we had no money,no hotel.
In 2010 we have no money,no hotel.
Unfortunately we have the internet which gives us people who moan like fuck and say how it should be if everything ran to their expectations.
Well if things ran to my expectations my mum wouldn't have died in 71 my dad wouldn't have died in 84.
But this is United. Woolhouse ran off with all the money,Hinchcliffe went to prison,MacDonald turned us over,Sam Hashimi became a bird and McCabe had a go fucked it up, is still around not asking for his cash back, but trying to sell us so someone else can have a go.
And that is part of being a blade. We're not going anywhere,we have no devine right to go anywhere. Expect now't and you won't be dissapointed.
I really don't give a toss about AGMS,2009 accounts 2010 accounts,freeholds,leaseholds or cuckolds.
Whoever we play next I want to beat them and if we don't I want to beat the next team we play.
I am so glad I don't lead the life of some who come on here moaning about everything United. What did you expect when you became a blade ? Did you think we'd be up there with the Man Utds and the Arsenals.
If you so unhappy go to the AGM say your piece or as my old dad would say "Fucking Shurrup"

Most of us are here because of family, accident and misfortune. To get here glory hunting does seem especially cruel.

The "we're not going down, we're not going up" song at Newcastle last season summed it up for me. Felt familiar, felt right and felt like we'd got our club back from the mirage of success.

i'd die happy if we could get a to be a stable mid table team in the top flight for a few seasons. i dont think its beyond us, if we get our house in order.

Thats it then lads, leave the club in the hands of the clappers, and at least the 7 or so thousand that are left to watch garbage week in week out in division one will be happy. If I didn't know some of the posters on here a bit better then I would think this was a wind up. Pathetic, you get what you deserve.

Different times ,we got through with about 6 great players ,4 decent ones and a crap one with no back up at all. How many of those players would get in todays football ?

Was a fantastic time though.

In a nutshell. Go to game, have a beer, and get behind the lads.

My main bugbear at the minute is high ticket prices for football, but that's not exclusively limited to SUFC.

Good post, no doubt from the heart but total and utter drivel all the same.

Why is it pathetic?

One of the best posts on here for a long time! I know exactly where AW is coming from.

Yes it would be nice if we had some moderate success but frankly I don't give a f*ck if we don't. I'll still turn up and enjoy a win, shrug my shoulders philosophically at defeat and take an interest at the goings on behind the scenes.
I've long since stopped letting it affect my life, as its only a game of football and not life or death.
All this 'I'm not going until (insert manager, player, director etc) has left this club or until we stop (insert hoofball, longball, route1 etc etc) is frankly pathetic. If one can't afford it, fair play, but as far as I'm concerned, you are either a Blade or you ain't and you support them through thick and thin. The rest is bollocks.

Sorry LSF but opening a string with comments like 'I'm so glad I don't lead the life of some people on here' is not going to be greeted with joy and understanding.

The pathetic thing about clapper world is the belief that anyone else doesn't support United. Leave that point alone and AW might have had some decent comments.

I am well aware that United have not reached cup finals etc had many season in the top flight and well aware that it aint easy to win football matches. I'm also well aware that McCabe has destroyed the club that AW talks about.

No need to apologise Micaljo, I was merely agreeing with AW and re-enforcing his point with a few observations of my own.

And so another thread continues along the same lines as all the others. This place is becoming like groundhog day, no matter what opinion any one of the posters have. :loopy:

With the exception of Currie and Woodward I think we've had better players in possibly evey position since then mate. Who do you think would have been kept out of the 71 team at the expense of Steven Quinn ;-)

In 50 years of supporting the Blades, season ticket all that time, I can hnoestly say I have never been so thoroughly bored with the Blades. Football is out of touch with reality and as for the rubbish at the lane, well words fail me.

Why? How boring would that be?

Systematically beaten by Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal every year, whilst we cobble enough points off the Wigan's and Wolves' to maintain mid table nothingness.

Part of the reason that things are so shit with football at the minute is that all we can aspire to achieve is 12th in the top division and maybe a point at Old Trafford along the way.

The only way we will ever stand a chance of winning anything at all is to have the heart and sole ripped away from your club by selling out to the whim of Thai/Arab/Lithuanian billionaires. Its got to something when a well supported club in the heart of Englands 4th biggest City cant even be competitive in Englands second tier without bankrupting itself.

Even as short as 5 or 6 years ago we could at least dream of somehow battling our way to cup finals, but now the top clubs have stopped playing the kids in those competitions, that dream is kaput.

Professional football in England = Zzzzzzzzzzz. :tumbleweed:

Know exactly what youa re saying but everytime I watch Stoke on TV I think that it should have been us. I don't know but I don't get the impression that their fans are bored yet. I'm sure the attraction will fade but they have some decent players, very decent players and the atmosphere is usually fantastic. I think that is what the post was getting at. SUFC would have been fantastic for Prem imo. 30k plus averages and I genuinely feel the fans of the big cluibs enjoyed a day out in Sheffield city centre.

WBA - another example who haven't stayed up yet by a long way but are playing some fantastic stuff and have won at Arsenal and Everton already.

Top post Woody!

At the end of the day that is what the game should be all about - unconditional allegience to the club you love and to enjoy going down t'lane whether they're good, shit or indifferent. Sometimes I have a good old moan like the best of em and nearly all the time that is down to the fact that I desperately want them to do well. As you point out though, they have won fuck all for a very long time and it will probably be a very long time before they win anything again.....that's the Blades. As BB would say "same owd, same owd."

I too care very little about accounts, valad, realty, bollocks, bollocks and bollocks (though I did find the details of the annual report an interesting read). Who fucking cares! We're powerless as supporters to change any of what has gone on before and powerless to change it in the future. Its alright crusading against the club on here and banging the drum about what mistakes have been made.....but what good will it achieve? The same people have spent the larger part of two years (and probably much more) slating what has gone off and has anything improved? It has got worse if anything, so clearly your ramblings have no impact other than to make people sat at their laptops roll their eyes.

Ok so your not happy.....neither are the rest of us. Most people on here shrug their shoulders at you, the club clearly either doesnt listen to you or is incapable of delivering what you ask for.....no one is doing anything about it...............so what are you going to do about it????

It's possible to have low expectations, be happy to turn up and watch United, accept that it's likely to be shite - and at the same time be extremely disappointed with what McCabe's done and feel ok that you want to talk abut it.

There's one or two who insisted everything was OK and that we should thank our lucky stars for McCabe. For them to then argue that none of it really matters (not aimed at the OP BTW) and we should hang on in anyway without complaint seems a bit rich.

I care about the accounts because huge debt means we're very likely to be watching shite for years to come. The academy wont fill the hole. Look around - no evidence that it's a credible way forward. I'll watch shite for years to come, but why shouldn't I hope for better?

I hate to say this BUT ................ great potential for a Sheffield club to have a team competing in the Premiership with crowds most of the other clubs would 'die for'............ I hope we've not missed the bus ! know what i mean ?

Totally on your wavelength alco and I agree with all of that post. Dont get me wrong, I can put the world to rights when it comes to SUFC and how it is run (usually during long drinking sessions in the Sportsman), but there has to be a point where you let it drop. Either walk away or support them.....as supporters they are our (only) options.

Labouring the same points and arguments to the tedium of everyone else is fine as its a free country but it starts to fall on deaf ears after a while and at the very most is met with hostility. It doesnt benefit the club and it doesnt benefit relations between supporters so what is it there for? What does it achieve?

Once you've made your point, you've made your point and people will remember where you stand. Opinions are fine and you can still support your club whilst having a negative outlook yes, totally agree.....but after a while it starts to have a detrimental effect on both the mood in our community and the image of the club.

Well said Alco...things do matter, otherwise why bother going out of the house.

Agreed.

On a seperate note, have I told anybody that I think Ched Evans is rubbish?

I've an idea for rescuing Ched... Like all other expensive failed projects, he just needs to be re-branded.

Let's change his name to Joe Striker, put a wig on him, plus a few tattoos to make him look meaner. Set the groundwork with a viral marketing campaign, then re-release him at a press conference live on SSN.

Ched 2.0 is here.
