Where’s your plan A & B Wilder?

We haven't got a style of play. This season smells so badly of the Hecky promotion to the point that it would be a carbon copy but for relying on Ndiaye to do something to change a poor team performance. Why can't any Blades manager get a tune out of whatever players they bring in. We've waited half a season for it to click and it hasn't but for the occasional game against truly awful opponents. If promotion goes tits up then this is on Wilder for his lack of plan B and stubborn insistence on playing one formation and one formation only, no matter who he had available.

Why not play BBD and Cannon up top together tonight in a 442, which would allow for straight swaps from the bench? Nope. Drop RND for McCallum and problem solved. Surely he saw how ineffective and wasted Burrows was on Tuesday.

We didn't lose tonight because of injuries or tired players. We lost because of Wilder's stubbornness and teams exploiting our weaknesses which he keeps putting out and making it easy for them.

Utter crap tonight.

I don't buy into this "we're top two, why are you moaning?" We've been poor on the whole all season but won as we had a rock solid defence protected by Souza and Arblaster. We've been poor for months now and there's no sign that we're going to turn the corner and put in consistent performances over 90 minutes. Results or not, performances must improve.
Iv been saying to this is heckyball all over but what worries me is if we go up, no pace no power no guile gus apart, no big athletic units, no pattern of play, how the hell are we gunna stay up??

Constant back passes suggests to me that the players either don't know what to do when they have the ball as

A) they're thick and crap

Or

B) they've been over coached into playing a system that their natural decision making instinct has been taken away and now they play paint by number football.
This. The manager brings in technically skillful players then he and his staff "coach" that skill out of them. It happens over and over again.
Soon, when Cannon still hasn't scored, our fans will turn on him instead of seeing that he's being asked to play in a way that is unfamiliar to him.
If I was Arblaster, Brooks,Peck etc I'd get away asap.

Wilder and coaches need to sit down and actually come up with a playstyle of some sort. Our entire season has relied on hamer and souttar being different gravy with both gone we look lost. ⚔️

It's B.
It's all Wilder . 'Slow it down' 'possession is all' 'pass and control'.
They are TOLD what they MUST do.
Sooty and Robinson are old enough to know when to go long regardless.
Sadly Sooty is gone and the damage caused by his omission and overriding Wilder are sorely missing.
This is coming up every thread so I'll put the source up as a start and expand if I ever get the chance.

No matter what anyone thinks of Wilder I think he will be given a pass for this season unless we completely unravel. The new investors are not football fans let’s be honest . They are the latest in a string of US investors in football anticipating rich rewards down the line. I think there plan is to get us up then flip to Asia based source . Whoever the manager is they will be under massive pressure to succeed and limited time to do it

No plan B? So none of the changes he made in the second half against Sunderland, the pigs, Swansea and Bristol matter do they?

Plan A is he didn't learn a thing from the first 45 mins at Swansea.

Plan B tonight was scattergun and hope something comes off.
After that first half against Swansea this was pure negligence, he thought he'd get away with it against crappy ol Hull. Just get the strikers on without any thought as to how we were going to get the ball up to them.
If it wasn't so damaging against the club I'd say it served him right

The main change is that the opposition has much less quality. I actually don't believe much has changed. Our 'style of football' is still very similar and in my opinion it's bad. We still have limited quality on the ball, lots of sideways passing, most of our possession is across our back line, aimless long balls and clearances, easily turn over possession, inaccurate passing, hurried play, creatively weak, a lack of technical ability, a lack of dynamic movements and play. We have had random games where we have looked much better but I would say about 80% of our games have most of these ingredients.

Against some of the more possession based teams in this league we look poor. When/if we go up it will be a carbon copy of last time because the style of football is non-existent. you need both results and style of play to cut it in the prem. We are organised and do a job on teams but that doesn't work when you play against teams of much higher quality as you can't break through them and you can't keep them out. It will be another painful season unless we change things.

Every week we hear an almost identical viewpoint from opposing fans that we look like a poor team and that they can't believe we are 2nd/top. It is consistently mentioned and there is truth and reason to it. If we don't establish something better soon then there is no way we stand a chance of trying to implement if we go up playing against much better teams.

Style of play and footballing culture is what defines the elite teams at the top of English and world football.
I'm slightly concerned that you might be right about all that!

We’ve been bang average all season let’s be honest. We just have really good players all over the pitch. Performances don’t merit the points we’re on IMO. Im not doom and gloom by any stretch just realistic. Injuries have hurt us granted but recently Wilder has been left wanting tactically. Last night was a shambles. Anything other than autos with this squad and the backing Wilder has received this month is unacceptable. If we fail to go up than I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re looking for a new manager in the summer. UTB

The fact remains though that we were a complete mess last season. Most of us thought we'd be struggling in League 1, it was that bad.

Losing only the occasional game this season is some turnaround.

We are lucky to have Wilder

Was just about to reply to this post saying how wise it was - then realised it was me that said it.

Replying anyway. Wise.
