The main change is that the opposition has much less quality. I actually don't believe much has changed. Our 'style of football' is still very similar and in my opinion it's bad. We still have limited quality on the ball, lots of sideways passing, most of our possession is across our back line, aimless long balls and clearances, easily turn over possession, inaccurate passing, hurried play, creatively weak, a lack of technical ability, a lack of dynamic movements and play. We have had random games where we have looked much better but I would say about 80% of our games have most of these ingredients.
Against some of the more possession based teams in this league we look poor. When/if we go up it will be a carbon copy of last time because the style of football is non-existent. you need both results and style of play to cut it in the prem. We are organised and do a job on teams but that doesn't work when you play against teams of much higher quality as you can't break through them and you can't keep them out. It will be another painful season unless we change things.
Every week we hear an almost identical viewpoint from opposing fans that we look like a poor team and that they can't believe we are 2nd/top. It is consistently mentioned and there is truth and reason to it. If we don't establish something better soon then there is no way we stand a chance of trying to implement if we go up playing against much better teams.
Style of play and footballing culture is what defines the elite teams at the top of English and world football.
