What was your first Blades game

Blades v Blackpool, D1, Easter Monday 1966.
Alan Ball was playing for Blackpool, a few months before helping to win the World Cup (by which time he had been sold to Everton).
We lost 1-0.

I'd been going with my Dad to a few reserve games on Saturday afternoons, but this was my debut for the 1st team.

I reckon the photographer was inside the coach when he took the pitcture. Looks like the players were about to board the coach for the pre-season tour of Holland.

V Tottenham in September 1966. United win 2 1. Tony Wagstaff scored after a few minutes as i remember and there was so much noise. It was a night match and stood at front of Kop with my Dad. I'd been to reserve games before but this was so different. I was 7 years old.
Spurs brought their black shorts to the match so the ref ordered the Blades to wear white shorts. We kept wearing the white shorts for home games until December 1966 and brought them back for the 1967-68 season (although we wore black shorts for the last game)

That might have been my first 1st team match as my dad said against Blackpool was my first match but he thought we had won. He took me to reserves matches before that. He also took me to watch Switzerland v Spain for the World Cup match at S6 in July 1966. I do not remember going to any matches I went to before September 1969 (went to only two that month) and became a Lane regular from 17/1/1970 (v Preston)

2nd December 1989, Sheffield United 3 West Brom 1.

My only memory is a WBA player breaking through, lobbing the keeper (Tracey?) but it bouncing on the 6 yard line, hitting the bar and going over.
It was Don Goodman who headed a bouncing ball over Tracey and for some reason the ball bounced higher than everyone in the ground had expected

I’m going to have a second go at this as a few people have mentioned friendlies. I also might need some help from Silent to pinpoint the date & score as its all a dim and distant memory.
First went to the Lane, 79/80ish for a pre season friendly with a couple of Leeds supporting mates and ended up watching from the away end. I’ve got a feeling Sabella played, but not sure who for. I also seem to think both teams scored. No much to go on, but I’m sure Silent can help me out😀

I cannot remember my first game but it was in the 60's, I remember telling my younger brother about the atmosphere and encouraged him to go with me and just wait until we score because the noise is soooo loud, we drew 0-0 so he went home wondering what I was on about , against Liverpool funnily enough

Bradford City at home in 1996. 3-0 win, Taylor & a double from Whitehouse to sink Kammy's Bradford. 😁

Boxing Day 1957. My granddad took an excited 7 year old for what was to become a lifelong obsession. Apparently we won 4-2 against Blackburn Rovers but I can remember nothing of the game - just the excitement of the crowds. My memory has us in the old wooden john Street Stand looking across at the pavilion.

24 September 1966: Sheffield Wednesday 2 v Blades 2

Sheffield United vs Manchester United, first game in the Premier League, Brian Deane first goal, win for the Blades. My hero to this day.

Swindon Town at home in 93 .... 3-1 win. They had to play in our away socks.

I was hooked by the whole thing; the sheaf before hand, the walk to the ground, the atmosphere, reading the programme back to back several times, watching the warm up, trying to guess the starting 11, the size of the ground, the swearing.... just everything ... it was like for 6 hours the rest of normal life didn’t exist. (It still feels that way now)

My little brother and I were mascots at that game! Hope you weren't one of the c*nts on the kop who jeered when i Simonsen-ed my penalty into row Z during the half-time shootout competition.

My first was Gillingham away in 1988. We lost 2-1 but played them off the park, totally unjust result.

Yes, this sort of thread has been around a few times. Remember posting on the old Blades -re-united thread. Saw 2 games in 1947-48 season -Division 1 (top division in those days). Beat Blackburn Rovers 4-1 in December,1947 and Grimsby Town 4-0 in January, 1948 (or the other way round ie 4-0 Blackburn and 4-1 Grimsby. Would have been around 8 years old then and being passed over the heads of loads of adults , on the Kop, until I reached the front row. Vividly remember the Grimsby team had holes in their shirts and socks- played in white shirts instead of their black and white stripes. They used the same shirts for a whole season in those days and washed their own. Those were the days. Also, remember seeing the first meeting since the war between Blades and Owls (friendly) whilst on holiday in the Isle of Man (2-2) but very vague and can't remember whether it was before or after the 1947- 1948 season.

Yes I was ... shall we meet up for a fight before a game to settle old scores 😉😂

Not good enough that, I wanted a cup run and that side should have been good enough to get one. Shows quite a few of our 25 man squad need replacing in January.

My dad told me that before the game many in the crowd were asking each other "Who is our number 9?". We signed him on Xmas Eve and there were no newspapers announcing our new signing. He scored our first goal and became a crowd favourite.
