What was your first Blades game

I know I was taken to a home game v Wednesday some time in the 1950s. It was most likely the game in Feb 59. 1-0, Doc Pace with the goal.

We stood at the corner between the cricket pavilion and the kop end. The pitch was miles away and I don't think I had much idea what was going on, to be honest.

I started going regularly in 1962/63 season. Pace, Hodgson Kettleborough, Allchurch, Joe Shaw, etc.

Small world - this was my first game too. Sat in the Bramall Lane end of the old three sided ground. 2-2 from memory and they played in pale blue with a white and orange horizontal band.

A lot of water under the bridge since that day eh Sitwell? 😊
Yep ,I cant remember a thing about the game ,just coming up through the the stairs and a deep intake of breath at the steepness and my Grandad having a dewdrop on his nose despite having about 6 layers on including shirt tie ,waistcoat and overcoat and flat cap.. Loved that bloke.

My first visit to Bramall Lane , supporting Derby , was for a top flight fixture on 26 January 1991 , the season before Sky TV discovered Football
Sheff Utd won 1-0 with a late Glynn Hodges goal

My memories from the away end , were Vinny Jones urging on your players , waving his fists at anyone who didn't give 100% ..I hated him , like all opposing fans did , but secretly admired what he lacked in skill , he made up for in spades with effort , commitment and leadership
I remember the surge from the Kop as I looked on from the other end ..you do miss those amazing sights in these all seated days

United looked in a hopeless position after 12 games ..a miserable 4 points only , with no wins ..but Dave Bassett managed to get them on a roll , they went beserk from memory , and stayed up comfortably to take their place in the new English Premier League

Derby were relegated , we had 3 players of real class , Peter Shilton , Mark Wright and Dean Saunders ..unfortunately the rest were very average

Oh , and a certain Chris Wilder was playing that day too

Saturday 15th December 1962 against Forest. Won 3-1. Doc scored 2 but Gerry Summers and Len All Burch became my favourite players.

Stood behind Bramall Lane goal with my dad 4-5 rows behind. Soup from a flask at half-time.
Wasn’t allowed to go on the cup until I was in senior school. Great days.

My first ever game was Utd v West Brom. Battle of Bramall Lane, 0-3, match abandoned.

Shilts was terrific that day. Mis- hit from Hodges who then fell over the advertising boards
Shilts got a big welcome from the Blades fans, Italia 90, and he acknowledged it.
That's when you footy is at it's best.

First game for me was Jimmy Hagan’s benefit match against an “ international team “ in March 1958.
Cannot remembered the score (4-3?) nor where in the ground I was but just remember all the little lights from cigarettes being smoked all around the ground .

I'm hoping someone remembers the game, in my memory it's a 1-0 home defeat I think against Mansfield, and I seem to believe Kenworthy scored an own goal

But I can't find any record of it, so I think my mind is wrong

All I remember is it was in the old 4th, we lost 1-0 and it was definitely an own goal

And still I returned........
Best I can manage is to say it wasn't v Mansfield inthe 4th Division, because we beat them 4-1 in an evening match. Kenworthy scored both home and away against Mansfield. I think we were unbeaten at home that season.

We were losing 1-0 until about 5 minutes to go. We was pants.
Trusson scored 2, floodlit robbery. Many had left early and even more pissed off when we caught them up and told them the score.
And they still haven't learnt to stay to the end... ;)

September 8th 1947 United 3, Liverpool 1
I can remember absolutely nothing.
I know the date because my grandfather took me for my 2nd birthday present. He was determined to make me a blade since my father was an owls.

Hope the pics bring back memories. Quite a forward-line for the International XI. Mind you, the programme was double the normal price!

Crossed wires somewhere mate, I'm on about our 7-3 win v the Cobblers in Div 4

Grandfathers are not to be underestimated - my grandson's a keen Blade, but son of a Newcastle fan.:)

Hull
I thought that was a nickname I hadn't seen before...! Summers was an unusual choice for favourite player - solid, reliable, nice bloke, decent player, but not the usual choice for kids to hero-worship?
I think I just liked the name. I later transferred my hero worship to Barry Hartle....... everybody else Jones and Birchinall.

Hull City, April 1969 off the top of my head, we drew 1-1, I Immediately felt I belonged and got a season ticket the following season.

Chelsea at home in 1975 I think - a night game I think

2nd game was definitely Fulham at Home in 1976 to see George Best

Either 2-1 win in February 1975 (Saturday afternoon) or 1-0 win on a cold Friday night in December 1976

Sheffield united v Manchester united 1975 league 1 lost at home 1-4 after that i was hooked

OMG my first was Fulham , i didn't support anyone , i just went to see George Best , and ended up idolizing another player on the pitch , his name was Alan Woodward and that was it , i was hooked 🎣

Erm. My first Blades match was at Feethams as a Darlington supporter. Yeah I supported my local team Darlington until I was 7 and saw the Blades win 2-0 on the last day of the season in 81-2 I think (and as a 7 year old the atmosphere was hairy back in the drink fuelled hooligan days) I kind of remember seeing men with red and white scarves crying with pleasure and looking so happy.
I guess 7 year old me was a typical gloryhunter and decided then and there that was my team.
Thank god there was no internet in those days just bricks with Zombie flesh keyboards which loaded games from tapes - or I’d be supporting a shallow soulless team like Man Utd!
My Dad was appalled when I told him I was supporting the Blades from then on. He even went so far as to sign me up with the Junior Quakers who played football before the match. I enjoyed the football, and I don’t think any of the boys I played with supported Darlo.
Darlo were shite I must add, but they did have a few hard men who I forget.
My Dad also refused to take me down the M1 to see the Blades, even though he took my younger brother to see Liverpool (and a reluctant me) at Anfield numerous times. Liverpool were good to watch, but I’m still bitter. So most of my Blades watching was on teletext and reading anything I could find in the press until I could save enough to take the train to Sheffield with one of my mates.

Ironically my first match at Bramall Lane was in 92 when we defeated a poor Liverpool team who were all style but no substance. (My brother, who came with me was a Liverpool fan) I still remember how fat the Danish Scouser Molby looked, but could still ping a ball about. And those two goals by Deane are fond memories. Especially as I could make fun of my brother for Grobbelar’s idiocy for the first goal.
Fast forward 30 odd years and I’m still what some of you may call a tourist. I get to 3-8 games a season when I can.
My five year old daughter attends with me now - even though she hates our mascot who has ‘evil eyes’ supposedly. In a year or two I’ll be taking my 8 month old son. My daughters first game was the Leon Clarke game against Hull. She was beginning to think that the Blades always won, until I took her to Brighton last week. She’s the little girl with a pony toy shouting at the opposition fans.
It amazes me how many fans Wilder is winning (I teach and the kids now want to talk to me about how great the Blades are!) and I’m sure over the next few years we will be attracting 1000s of youngsters to their first game. It’s a good time to be a Blade. Hopefully many of us will be planning our first European games next year.

Before coming to blades matches I had been to watch Donny, Barnsley and had been taken to a few man utd games as a young un.i always enjoyed going to matches but never felt a pull to a particular team.
This changed when I went to my first blades match as anyone who was there that day would understand.i went on my own on the train to the lane ,I was I think 15 at the time. The game was blades 5 Brighton 4 . John Francis hat trick . Absolutely fantastic for a young lad to get into the red and white wizards and fall in love with your team.i am now hoping I can pick a game in the next couple of years that has the same effect on my little lad when he comes to the lane for the first time.

Home vs Port Vale, 1-1 draw - towards the end of 1995/96 season? Remember nothing of the match but can vaguely remember John Street was still being rebuilt.

First one I remember properly - Home vs Sunderland in 1997 and that Borbokis belter...
That was my first game too .It was the last game of the season and we missed a penalty.
