What is Cannon actually meant to be?

My opinion on him is well documented. I'm not going over old ground.

Having sat there and watched him touch the ball about 7 times last night, I'm just wanting to grasp what sort of player people actually think he is?

He doesn't impact games at all. He doesn't occupy defenders, he doesn't draw people out, he doesn't knock into them and rough them up. It's like having a blade of grass in a United shirt up there.

And this isn't on Selles, it was the exact same when he played last season.

An utterly abysmal signing.

Regrettably you're correct. There is perhaps a system he can flourish in, but it's probably very niche & unlikely that we'll discover it.

Everyone saying this for weeks and weeks, then we think Thank The Lord we've offloaded to Hecky in the window, unfortunately not. Then the team sheet comes out last night and WTF he's on it? Then we play 45 mins with 10 men and after half time he comes out again.

It's totally mental decision making.

I was briefly tempted to defend him by saying that no striker would have looked good last night in that team (which is true.)

But then I remembered that 95% of the time he was on the pitch Callum O’Hare was our furthest player forward, and it made me even more angry with this useless unflushable turd of a striker than ever.

He’s not even making the most of his extremely limited skill-set.

How did he get 19 Championship goals in 55 appearances for Preston, Leicester & Stoke?

Apart from Burnley game last season not seen anything of him to suggest he will be effective or successful for us.

Both 0/10
I think for all his flaws cannon tries he just lacks any ability or football IQ, Godfrey actively downed tools last night and should be sent back to Italy as fast as possible, I've rarely been so incensed by a Sheffield United player as I was by him last night.

To widen the discussion a bit I think we need to look at a bigger problem in that we haven’t had a decent striker since peak Mousset and before that Leon Clarke, who can do things by themselves. We got decent service from the twilight years of Didz and Sharp, but they needed service . But it really has been slim pickings. As a team that creates very few decent chances, and that has been true for about 5 years we probably need to invest in strikers with pace or power. Guys like One. We had Jebbo and Osula with athletic characteristics but they got poached quickly. And I don’t think Wilder particularly liked that ‘type’ of striker preferring bits and pieces players instead.
Or change formation and play 2 up front. I really hate modern football at times, for example why does Selles think 2 wide forwards who never score or create (brooks and Barry) are better than an additional central striker and a central midfielder? Never get control of the game and never create enough.

If he’s playing at anything above National League Level by the time he’s 25 I will be staggered, a complete nonentity of a footballer

Cannon was close to joining PNE, then next game he gets a start?!

Not his fault he’s gash, if I got given a shirt I’d turn out

Is there anyone other than the management team think he should start ahead of Campbell or One?

Not takin the piss, Sekiri would do a better job of running at em and getting stuck in

He has a shot on him we just don’t give him the bal or create anything. He was slightly better under wilder. I’m not sure he’s that good overall though, just a steady championship mid table player

Has he ever played with someone up front at the side of him ? Ings hopefully would show him a thing or two, provided he’s not in the treatment room with the resident you know whos.

Couldn't agree more, I've said the same things many times, he's never a professional footballer while he's got a hole in his backside......

I am pretty sure we intended to start Ings last night then he got injured and as bridges had been burned with Campbell during the week the options were Cannon or One’

He never seems to do anything tbh, doesn’t run at people, can't win in the air, doesn’t seem to have a strikers instinct, Wilder must have looked at the list of top scorers at the time and thought "HIM", hopeless signing when we desperately needed a defender

He's hopeless. I can forgive a lack of talent or struggling out of position, but the lack of effort I can't. Frankly he's never looked like he wants to be here and I've no idea why we signed him as he does not fit in with the system we played / play.

A poacher. Would do a job in a side full of chance creators. We currently only have two (Hamer and Burrows) and Burrows is bang out of form. So he's essentially an expensive traffic cone.

Someone a while ago wrote that they knew his dad who had said Cannon isn't that into football.

No idea if that's true but he does look like someone turning up to a job that he just doesn't want. I have no doubt, if we put the ball on a plate for him, he will score. But does he want it, I get the feeling not
