There is talk of few transfers this summer and the squad has been reduced by 10:

Tom Davies, Danny Ings, Ben Mee, Jairo Riedewald, Leo Hjelde, Tyler Bindon, Ki-Jana Hoever, Djibril Soumaré, Chiedozie Ogbene, Kalvin Phillips.

Based on those that remain, what would be your chosen XI and formation?

For me:
Cooper
Seriki Tanganga McGuinness McCallum
Arblaster Peck
Brooks O’Hare Hamer
Bamford

It does show the obvious weakness in central defence and central midfield.

Next best I could come up with was the below:

Cooper
Tanganga McGuinness McCallum
Seriki Brooks Arblaster Peck Burrows
Hamer
Bamford

Desperately need a proper defensive foil and centre back in the loan window and we seem weak at right back cover too.

It does also illustrate the gulf between the 2nd and 3rd tier. I remember the other lot thinking McGuinness was a legend when he was on loan at their place yet he looks very limited with us and useful in the more physical type games such as Stoke but not many more.

All I'll say to that is, if that's the case our best eleven will be nowhere good enough .

If we really going to be limited on what we bring in then we will have to rely on Wilder to do what he has done before and get the best out of what he has got.

2x defender 2x holding midfielder, an athletic attacking player and a physical striker
6 must haves to get anywhere near top 8
Centre halves
Walker,Souttar ( I'd be pushing on these 2 )
CDM
Phillips ( if he gets a full pre season) ,
bissoma ( just left spuds ,put a contract under his nose and leave it there !!!
Gueye ( just left Everton but my mate says a lot of fans are baffled why they've let him go )
ATM
There's a lot of good young players available on loan Who've got things to prove.
And yes I know the 2 lads from spurs and Everton are over 30 but we need some experience in the squad with sydie and ollie.

Interesting article on Sheff Utd Way.

Has the 5 signings as Souttar, Phillips, Neal, Dobbin and Ross Stewart.

That would be 2 frees, 2 loans and then whether Souttar would be realistic as a buy or have to be a late loan.

How would folk feel about a line up that included those?

I think the working assumption is that we lose Peck and Hamer with the former primarily raising an eight figure sum, the latter a mid seven figure sum and Hamer shaving a good percentage off the wage bill. Open question on whether we also need to cash in on the likes of Burrows and Campbell.

There then seems to be a consensus that we will get a more conventional wide player with the likes of Dobbin, Watson, Clarke and Brereton-Diaz all being linked candidates, all of which would be loans unless BBD was the eventual option and a settlement with Saints was brokered.

Along with Brooks, that would appear to provide the first choice wide options. Potentially Oné, O’Hare and Chong provide competition and cover. It then leaves a question over whether Chris is sufficiently impressed with Ukaki and Nwanchukwu to add them to the mix as alternatives or Nwanchukwu them out the door! We also have Marsh in there not to mention the option to play another striker alongside Bamford. Do we actually need another striker if Cannon and Campbell are remaining and Marsh and Oné and O’Hare are in the squad with Bamford first pick?

With Riedewald off, you’d expect Arblaster and Rothwell to be there. We need at least a couple more so I’m not against seasoned pros like Neil, who I’m amazed is still only 24, and Phillips, if he proves his fitness. Every chance Chris doesn’t fancy Matos and we can cash in on him or at least get him off the wages for a season.

I really hope someone does get on the blower with Leicester. For us Souttar made a huge difference before he got injured and he seemed happy. He’ll have the benefit of a successful summer behind him. I doubt he feels a need to play in the third tier. Surely THE most logical thing is to offer up McGuinness to them. It could be a loan swap with us taking a big hit on the wages, it could be a straight loan for him but an obligation to buy for us, we have a successful season. McGuinness won’t want to be a bit part player with us, could excel with Leicester at that level, who in recent times are a “bigger” club so it wouldn’t be a step back and it would enable a reboot for him. Would seem logical all-round. Hope we do something like that.

The other thing for me is to get proper right back cover and competition that can also help out at centre back. I’d take this over a forward that SUW had suggested. Shame we didn’t get the QPR lad. Especially if McGuinness gets offloaded, I don’t mind Baptiste, Zatterstrom, Sasnauskas and RND being 4th choice centre back; you have to compromise somewhere, but I’d be loathe for them to be first back up.

There is still room for further wage savings through Grbic, Shackleton/ Polendakov/ Curtis moving off the wage bill.

Can’t see much moving until after the WC.

Cooper
Tanganga McGuinness Zatterstrom
Seriki Peck Arblaster McCallum
Hamer Campbell Brooks

McCallum gets the nod over Burrows quality based on his athleticism
BUT will he be OK after injury?

Brilliant going forward under a sane, competent manager rather than this imbecile sot
so GET IT FORRARD !!

I expect 5 or more of them to be gone FAR TOO CHEAPLY
as a result of the imbecile and ClownsOH

But not shite like Tanganga
or mediocrity like floorboards OHare if anyone is daft enough to bid.

Disastrous season ahead with the imbecile in charge of transfers and
anti-football tactics that have failed us for all his last three seasons
if not four

Any chances of a new 'peck' or 'blaster' emerging from u21. Some of them coming of age.
