Team vs Pompey?

I am somewhat surprised a few on this thread are suggesting one up front.

Positive display my arse.
They took our middle apart first half and should have been home & hosed.
I dunno. Yeah Boro were good but I also thought we played pretty well too.
Yes once they got control of the first half they should have scored more than 2 goals and been out of sight.
But this is football. And we've had games where we should have scored more than 1 or 2 and been punished.

But before they even scored their first we should have probably scored. We were on top first 15 mins.
And before they get their 2nd we should equalise.
Either of those happen complexion of the game changes.

2nd half it's pretty unanimous that overall we were the side pushing and creating more chances. (We were the side 2-0 down so not that surprising).
Just before and after we got our goal back were seemed to be really on top. Campbell's effort could easily have leveled things up and I'd have really fancied us then.
It would in my opinion have robbed Boro of a really positive first half but these things happen in football. It's happened to us before.

As it went, we got a man sent off instead and whilst we huffed, we didn't create much after that.

Look at the Boro view from. None of them were saying we were crap.

After our initial 20-15 minutes, the auto promotion team were much better than us.
Doesn't mean it wasn't positive. The whole match was positive. It'll be hhe hardest game all season.

I thought similar, immediately after, but it is interesting that neutrals who watch the Championship, thought we played well and gave them a game.
I concede that we improved in 2nd half and scored from a rare quick move comprising 2 great passes & a clinical finish.
However , our approach play was still mainly "in front of the Boro defence" and every single corner was an atrocious waste - these frustrating things can be improved by better coaching.

Fair enough , we didn't sit back , so you could call it a positive 2nd half , but the repeatedly slow approach play meant we faced every Boro player in an organised defence.

Soumare and Phillips centre mid then. Burrows left back and canon up top in a 2. More than enough quality to win but will we?

We have so many combinations for CM now and this is one of them I wanted to see

Not the most obvious but Phillips and Soumare could be a good balance

Others:

1. Peck / Phillips
2. Phillips / Rothwell
3. Peck / Rothwell
4. Phillips / Riedewald

Not to even mention Davies and Arblaster

Honest felling is that Phillips and Rothwell is likely to be our best
