I'll keep this short and sweet. I prefer him to McMahon. He doesn't give away the needless free kicks, he doesn't constantly moan to the referee and he doesn't shit his pants once he reaches the halfway line.

A couple of times today he made great runs down the wing and into space. I wonder if his teammates missed this because they haven't been used to having a full back willing to make these types of run this season.

I'm in his corner when it comes to choosing who starts at right back in the play-offs. We need to believe we're the best team in it. Pick an attacking line-up. That means Westlake, not McMahon.

Also, to say McMahon is the dead ball specialist, Westlake's corners today were very good. Whipped in, right under the crossbar. Unfortunately, Robson came on and took over the corner taking. Toss.

Agree 100 % hopefully his convenient injury will keep him out.

Westlake should have been booked after 4 minutes! A stupid scythe down on the half way line. His corners were excellent mind.

Actually he scythed two of them down in that same passage of play. But at least they were proper fouls, through committed lunges trying to win the ball, not the usual pointless, niggly shit that McMahon does.

In all seriousness though, would you prefer McMahon to play ahead of him? I think Tony Mac's been one of the worst performers this season, especially after the fanfare that seemed to surround his signing, yet he inexplicably gets straight back into the side when he returns from injury/suspension.

Attacking full-back for me every time please.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I haven't seen enough of Westlake, he doesn't particularly fill me with confidence. Then again we know McMahon is a bit rubbish.

Both have defensive frailties but as you say, Westlake remains something of an unknown. What I have seen of him, though, shows he likes to get forward, can beat a man and can get a decent cross in. I'd take this over what we have had to endure this season.

Before anybody brings McMahon's free-kicks into the equation, they cannot say with all certainty that Westlake's attacking approach to the game wouldn't have contributed to at least as many goals as McMahon's free kicks.

sounds like nappies would help

On today's showing I'd prefer him to McMahon. On most of his other showings I wouldn't by quite a distance...

I guess Westlake is young enough to improve given a run in the side, and I can see McMahon leaving in the summer unless we go up. So maybe he's next year's man?
