I am stereotyping him in the way of a manager whos had one promotion (from Division 6) in 15 years of asking. What little I've seen of Derby points to more of the same non descript " style" over content football we've been subjected to for several years now, and is still craved by a minority.

It's difficult to argue with what Pulis has done in recent times which are most relevant. It's the swing in approach that would be difficult for us.

I just can't see it. We don't have the players to play the Pulis way. Let us get one thing right, we do have good players. We just need to find a manager they will respond in the right way to.

I expect he will have. Only believe that there was one other Weir appointment; physio was it? Not sure about the fitness guy? Did we even have one judging by our puffing and huffing after an hour.

As for my take on the sacking.

It was inevitable, right and difficult to argue with.

I did not want to change manager again. I admire that he wanted to change things but he tried to do way too much too soon with personnel he had. If anything he needed to evolve us more slowly in terms of style/approach but get rid of more of the dross. Getting such dross to play like Barcelona was frankly startling. Watching Collins and Maguire try and play like Pique or Beckenbauer was unbelievable. Simply the players could not do what he wanted them to do otherwise they would not be at this level but regardless of this the tempo overall was so slow and there was no urgency at any time. We had no width and no penetration whatsoever.

His decision to give everyone a chance and see what the 'losing culture' players had to offer was a big mistake. He had no real idea of the division and not a clue who was poor and should have been moved on and who should stay. Starting likes of Williams summed it up. He realised after 3 or 4 games he was abysmal.

He then refused to change things in game or game by game. His signings looked decent on paper (at least some) but hardly any have shined. We were getting worse not better. I saw no chinks of light or sign he could or would ever turn it around.

I actually think if he had stayed we would have got relegated. Sadly I saw nothing to suggest he would make it as a manager. He may prove us wrong. To do that he will have to change his approach somewhat and will also more than that have to manage at some level first (remember never managed anywhere even youth level - just helped out) whether it is Academy or non league. In 5 or 6 years he may be ready for a League 2 or 1 job. In essence he was experimenting with our club and clearly had no idea of the basics of coaching/management; eg scoring goals and not conceding goals; being organised and more than that showing some real passion and fight. The latter is often criticised in favour of the passing football style people want but for me first and foremost players must want it and win individual battles in terms of being first to the ball, winning tackles etc before any kind of football can ever take over.

We did not score goals, did not create chances, conceded goals and the football was dire. The performances were wholly unacceptable as were the results. Whatever limitations of the squad (most are poor) and the need to evolve there is no way on this earth a squad give or take a few that was around the top 6 should be bottom 2 or 3. To lose the amount of games in such a way we did meant he was a dead man walking and his body language and interview the other night suggested he had almost given up despite his words to the contrast. Probably a small part of him is glad it is over. I don't have much sympathy for him. Nice guy yeah but he has wasted another season and left us further back than when he came in. He will get a nice tidy pay off I am sure but in retrospect it all came too soon for him and I think one day he will concede that probably.

So what next?

Too much is being made of who plays like what and the philosophy of managers. You know what? I don't care. I want to win football games and score goals. If it is by passing. Great. If its smashing it up top quickly. Great. Ideally it would be a mixture of fast tempo pressure with good football but ideally the latter in oppositions half.

The names being bandied around will not come I do not think. Pulis has been a Premier League manager for a long time. O'Neill, Di Matteo is fantasy stuff. I will be honest and say I don't want Clough. Do not think he is tough enough to weed out some of dross and internal losing culture and problems in the dressing room (believe they are some).

I look down the odds and outside of above discussed; none stand out. Most thoroughly depress me. However, what I do know is that whoever comes in; I cannot see they can do any worse. Can they?

If the change of philosophy is watching what we have seen under Weir, I'd take Pulis over that anytime. He may inject some passion, commitment and some excitement.

I'd love superb, slick passing and lovely interchange with players switching positions but we are in League One with mostly very average players and wont get much better at this level.

As I say too much made between managers style and pigeon holing them into certain categories. They are not all automatically long ball or passing managers. Many of the best ones mix things up. Pulis (not advocating him despite these comments - don't think he would come and not sure he has knowledge of this level - been too high up too long).

To me basics of organisation, getting in the right areas to cross the ball, players making right runs and getting in areas are just as important as the perceived simple choice many seem to think mangers make; eg pass it short or long. It is not that simplistic. The best teams do both and know what time is right to do one of the two options of pass.

Those fans dreaming of Barcelona or Swansea style football need to be realistic. We need to do what we can to get out of this division and then maybe we can introduce better players and play more football in the Champ. one day when we get better players of a Prem class we could maybe aspire to be like those type of teams. At the moment the best football we could hope for at this level is football that gets results where the defence is solid but we get it wide and make things happen. We have midfielders who are comfortable on the ball but can score goals. Leyton Orient have managed this with perceived worse players than us? So should it be that hard to get our squad at least applying similar sort of principles to them?

3) What criteria, assuming the answer to 2) is negative, have the people tasked with this latest appointment decided upon?
4) What qualifications do they have to perform 3)
5) Even if the answers to 1-4 are positive, is the permatanned smarmy tax exile landlord or his offspring involved in any way?
6) If 5) is a yes, we're still fucked

It would be nice to see a manager who can get the side to excite the fans. There has been a general apathy that has crept into the club over the past few years and I don't think recent managers have 'connected' particularly well with the fans. Wilson was ok in that he was better than his predecessors but it needs to be someone who 'leads' and not 'manages'.

Not sure who is the right candidate, but I think it was inevitable that Weir would be sacked. I think the club must have a potential target in mind otherwise I doubt they would have sacked him half way between the JPT defeat and Sunday's game at Coventry.
