... Not the players & the coaches. I understand the extreme disappointment to yesterday’s result, but some of the posts on this forum have been disgraceful.

The boys are going through a difficult period, our form has dipped and clearly the pressure is getting to some. Now is the time when they need our help. And given how superb they have been for most of this season, getting behind them is the least we can do.

We’ve bounced back from two losses at the start of the season, losses at home to Leeds & West Brom, the meltdown away at Villa and battled through the adversity of the red cards vs Blackburn & Brentford. We’ve also earned some marvellous wins, including over our promotion rivals. We can still do it!

Our boys deserve much more respect. They will give it everything they have got and we need to do what we can to try and lift them. What’s happened in the past to other Sheffield United teams in promotion / play-off challenges is irrelevant and has no bearing on our fate this season.

We have overachieved and are still in with a chance of going up. Some of the pessimism and abuse written by a handful of posters is insulting. I hope the players don’t read the vile you write and you’re the last people I’d want alongside me in the trenches. Don’t turn your back on the lads when they need us more than ever now.

If you really feel that defeatist and want to have a good moan, please don’t turn up against Forest on Friday. I don’t want any part of your negativity, and the players certainly don’t need it either.

We’ve come a long way, we just need to stick together and get behind them. I’ve got my tickets for Stoke and I’ll be going to cheer the boys on and show my appreciation regardless if we’re out of the race.

Clearly it’s going to be tough now, but some of you are an embarrassment for chucking the towel in. Suck it up, dust yourselves down and support the team.

Well said pal, I was surrounded by blubbering wusses yesterday. Some seem to think support ends once they’ve sang the GCB.

I forgot that it was me in defence. And attack. And barking out the negative tactics.. oh. And I forgot it was me getting paid thousands a week to do it... The atmosphere has been a consistent problem for a while now. So don't try laying all the blame at the fans feet... We make the 12th man.. what about the other 11?

There's some good points made and I agree with much of above but the fans really do not affect things on the field as much as some make out. I am not sure any internet forum has any relevance to the confidence. I think the players do and will get our backing but sadly manys feelings are based on lots and lots of let downs. I can understand the frustration and will never criticise fans for feeling we have blown it when we are still in a great position. Many are drawing on years of experience watching SUFC. The only way to turn it round and for fans to not be as defeatist is for the club to succeed more. We are probably the biggest underachieving big club post 2nd World War in the country.

People saying same old United say it as invariably they do let you down. This one feels different though as the team has massively overachieved but we got in a great position. It's just that as last season we've run out of steam seemingly. Its not like the team are not doing their best. It is just frustration and disappointment really. I don't think the fans can slam Wilder/the team. They may look tired and made a few poor decisions but are doing their best. That is all we can ask.

I can understand fans frustration. I think a lot of comments are that rather than out and out criticism. The fans hopefully will give them one last go for the next few and you never know but if you asked 10 United fans this morning if they think they've blown it then probably 8 would say they have. The only way to change this pessimistic approach is for the club to be more successful. It is odd as I have seen 5 promotions in my life but seen 4 relegations I think but so many play off defeats/cup semi defeats seems to almost have made so many Blades feel like we rarely do it when it matters.

It's simply that we've seen it all before, most fans are like it, we're probably a bit worse because of all the shit we've seen.

The fact is that we've been brilliant for most of the season, we've got a few games away from the end and we've put in some very poor performances.

Well done Blades we can do it, we believe in you!

Is that what you expect? Fucking weirdos.

The fans haven't bottled it, they're just tired of history constantly repeating itself.

We’re third in the league mate and well above par. Wilder and the players deserve backing. To call them “bottlejobs” takes the piss given what they have achieved to date.

As usual, the truth is somewhere in between. We're not certainly bottle-jobs as crucual wins at Leeds, WBA and Preston show, but we really didn't handle the pressure very well yesterday either. Tufty and his management team are hardly blameless in yesterday's 2nd half happenings either; to bring on 2 negative subs against a team who load the box and pump the ball in - what could possibly go wrong ?? oh.....

Wilder's lost his bottle and the fans never had any.

Careful Rodley , this bloke might be a bigger Blade than you.

People on both sides of this argument are embarrassing themselves. Agree some fans aren't doing the best in getting behind the team but they aren't at fault for the below average performances recently.
Agreed mate, it’s that old debate of what comes first, should the team lift the fans or the fans lift the team. I’m of the view that during the game I’ll either do my best to lift the lads or at worst have a moan to myself because I know getting onto player’s backs during a game will achieve nothing but that’s my personal choice.

What I’d got near me yesterday though was a group of late arriving piss heads who bawled out the GCB and then after about 5 minutes proceeded to slag off virtually every player on the park. Everything and everyone was ******* RUBBISH and ******* USELESS ***** throughout except for the goal and the penalty miss. So much vitriol and hatred towards our own players and Wilder, I just don’t get it. All but one sloped just after the penalty miss so these massive Blades who’s live’s were in tatters till we scored didn’t even bother to see it out. Sometimes I think is a bit like that on here.

The players are physically knackered, nothing to do with Bottle.

We’ve an almost Dads Army team in terms of playing staff, Norwich, Leeds (and Villa) are younger, faster, fitter.

And that is what is going to take those sides up,

We need to remember how to close out games. Just in the last 4 games alone we’ve taken the lead in all of them - keep a clean sheet and we would be joint TOP, never mind Leeds. That’s just in the last 4 games, when we needed to step it up, we stepped it down.

Thank you. My thoughts exactly. Seen this scenario too many times. 1-0 up,player sent off, they miss a penalty. Most teams would’ve got away with it. But oh no,not Sheffield United. The remaining 10 men put that extra bit of effort in to make sure we balls it up at the death!!

It's harsh, but to be generally very good but not quite perform at the end when it really matters is basically what a bottlejob means. That's what we're doing at the moment.

you can’t blame people for being pessimistic mate .. some people are like that.. our fans have been through a lot over the last thirty years.. more down than up.. and anyway..
who the f**k are you?? ;)

What have we got to be pessimistic about? We’re doing great overall, no one on this forum expected us to have a chance of automatic at the start of the season. No one.

We’re struggling now and the players and the coaches need patience, support and respect. They’ve earned it. I’m far from being a ‘clapper’, in fact I’m anything but, I loathed the Adkins season and was bewildered by Clough’s second season and I knew he was getting the bullet. I’m 41 and witnessed every play-off final and cup semi defeat.

But this squad of players and management have provided me with the best memories Ive ever had of been a Blade. I’m not going to bail on them now, no way, and nor should you and the rest of the dummy spitters and toy throwers.

So that’s who the f**k I am.

I understand why people are pessimistic, I’d say it’s pretty natural given our postwar history. However, calling Chris and the lads bottlejobs is hugely disrespectful. Remember we were tipped for mid table at the start of the season and with four games to go we still have a chance of finishing second with a playoff position guaranteed. Some perspective would be good.

Well said! It’s amazing how our perennial bottejobs and their manager got us out of League One after all those years isn’t it?

I’m sure that you’re fully aware though that being respectful and showing some perspective doesn’t nearly get as much as much attention or reaction as somebody going off on one. That seems to be the main driving force for some of our fans both on-line and at the game.

We screwed up losing to Bristol City, scraped a win at Preston, then dropped points against Birmingham and Millwall; two games where we took the lead and failed to score a second goal due to poor tactics!
How many times yesterday did we attack on the break only to pull play back from an attacking position (allowing Millwall to get men back!)?
Sooooo frustrating!!!!

Bang on Gray. When you look at our net outlay on transfer fees and wages we have massively overachieved. Sadly it’s not enough for some people seemingly. Instead of saluting the management and playing staff for their incredible efforts they start moaning and calling them bottlejobs! I’d love to have known what their expectations were at the start of the season. It really does baffle me
