What have we got to be pessimistic about? We’re doing great overall, no one on this forum expected us to have a chance of automatic at the start of the season. No one.

We’re struggling now and the players and the coaches need patience, support and respect. They’ve earned it. I’m far from being a ‘clapper’, in fact I’m anything but, I loathed the Adkins season and was bewildered by Clough’s second season and I knew he was getting the bullet. I’m 41 and witnessed every play-off final and cup semi defeat.

But this squad of players and management have provided me with the best memories Ive ever had of been a Blade. I’m not going to bail on them now, no way, and nor should you and the rest of the dummy spitters and toy throwers.

So that’s who the f**k I am.

Then you're a strange one and you have a funny view of reality. Overall, nothing that CW has done so far compares to Bassett getting us out of the 3rd division & 2nd divisions at the first attempt on a pittance and the seasons he kept us in the 1st. When everyone in that division didn't like playing at BDTBL and we were competitive against everyone. And i'd risk an argument by saying that what CW has done so far doesn't compare with the 2 semi's & PO final season under Warnock nor the season we got promoted or the one after. A minority of this squad of players have one promotion as L1 champions and a 10th championship place under their belts to date, the other two managers in your life time allowed us to dine, however briefly, at the top table. I'm a CW fan, but let's not blow too much smoke up his arse.

... Not the players & the coaches. I understand the extreme disappointment to yesterday’s result, but some of the posts on this forum have been disgraceful.

The boys are going through a difficult period, our form has dipped and clearly the pressure is getting to some. Now is the time when they need our help. And given how superb they have been for most of this season, getting behind them is the least we can do.

We’ve bounced back from two losses at the start of the season, losses at home to Leeds & West Brom, the meltdown away at Villa and battled through the adversity of the red cards vs Blackburn & Brentford. We’ve also earned some marvellous wins, including over our promotion rivals. We can still do it!

Our boys deserve much more respect. They will give it everything they have got and we need to do what we can to try and lift them. What’s happened in the past to other Sheffield United teams in promotion / play-off challenges is irrelevant and has no bearing on our fate this season.

We have overachieved and are still in with a chance of going up. Some of the pessimism and abuse written by a handful of posters is insulting. I hope the players don’t read the vile you write and you’re the last people I’d want alongside me in the trenches. Don’t turn your back on the lads when they need us more than ever now.

If you really feel that defeatist and want to have a good moan, please don’t turn up against Forest on Friday. I don’t want any part of your negativity, and the players certainly don’t need it either.

We’ve come a long way, we just need to stick together and get behind them. I’ve got my tickets for Stoke and I’ll be going to cheer the boys on and show my appreciation regardless if we’re out of the race.

Clearly it’s going to be tough now, but some of you are an embarrassment for chucking the towel in. Suck it up, dust yourselves down and support the team.
I think that’s the best thing I’ve ever read on here. It says it all and it’s exactly how it is. I’m struggling for Friday so had it in my head I wasn’t going. After reading this, I’m gonna make sure I’m there to back the boys.

Up the Fucking Blades

Absolutely brilliant, keep posting. Why give up with 4 games to go?

Well said.

79 points from the last 40 played.

We can go up automatically.

We can go up via the play offs.

That’s my kind of ‘struggling’.

Bring on Friday.

I watched all the Bassett era. It was sensational and euphoric, but standards have changed and we got tanked in some games.

This feels different. Chris and the lads are building a brand, until recently we’ve been playing some wonderful football in a modern formation. People acknowledge us for the excellent success we’ve achieved and deservedly acknowledge us. I’m proud to wear my shirt and neutrals know we’re a fantastic club once again, trailblazers for daring to punch above our weight with a clear identity. It we did go up it would be tough, but with this squad and superb management team who knows if we somehow stayed up.

Under these fantastic lads and Chris & his staff, I have belief. I never had the same feeling under Dave, as amazing as he was for us. Relegation felt inevitable under Bassett, sadly, but under Wilder I genuinely believe this wonderful club of ours could once again be competitive in the top flight. A remarkable achievement given our budget, it might all end in tears, but let’s try our best to encourage this squad.Together, we all deserve it so let’s not fall out at this stage. We need each other.

Have a like. You could've just told me to eff off. :)

There's some good points made and I agree with much of above but the fans really do not affect things on the field as much as some make out. I am not sure any internet forum has any relevance to the confidence. I think the players do and will get our backing but sadly manys feelings are based on lots and lots of let downs. I can understand the frustration and will never criticise fans for feeling we have blown it when we are still in a great position. Many are drawing on years of experience watching SUFC. The only way to turn it round and for fans to not be as defeatist is for the club to succeed more. We are probably the biggest underachieving big club post 2nd World War in the country.

People saying same old United say it as invariably they do let you down. This one feels different though as the team has massively overachieved but we got in a great position. It's just that as last season we've run out of steam seemingly. Its not like the team are not doing their best. It is just frustration and disappointment really. I don't think the fans can slam Wilder/the team. They may look tired and made a few poor decisions but are doing their best. That is all we can ask.

I can understand fans frustration. I think a lot of comments are that rather than out and out criticism. The fans hopefully will give them one last go for the next few and you never know but if you asked 10 United fans this morning if they think they've blown it then probably 8 would say they have. The only way to change this pessimistic approach is for the club to be more successful. It is odd as I have seen 5 promotions in my life but seen 4 relegations I think but so many play off defeats/cup semi defeats seems to almost have made so many Blades feel like we rarely do it when it matters.
Spot on Deadbat ,Wilder has made similar comments in the past.I think in a strange way the players are feeling that burden which all us blades carry.
Not withstanding the fact a lot of our players are playing above a level they having played before .someone ( maybe Wilder ) has said promotion would be life changing for most of the players,That also is a burden to carry.
Not making excuses for them just telling it as I see it.

Have a like. You could've just told me to eff off. :)

Ha ha not at all mate. I respect your view totally, I’m worried too about the short & long-term future, just think we need to tough it out for now and keep going if we can.

All football teams let their fans down. It's part of the game.

This has been a seesaw season and we on the down motion this week.

Doubtless when we beat Forest on Saturday, the quite frankly embarrassing doom-merchants will be off to book hotels near Anfield and the Emirates.

It's football, grow up and enjoy the ride.

The big difference in the challenge facing Wilder is the curse of the parachute payments. Otherwise, much of what you say is indisputable.

If they go to the Forest game on Saturday, they’ll probably book the hotels for the wrong days..

The clappers will not be háppy until we are down to the 12,000 bigger blades who were cheering like demented idiots when Adrian Heath was manager. You know we shouldn't do an Oliver Twist and ask for a bit more that just isn't manly hard men suck it up.
And there we have it the reason we fail time after time we should know our station in the second tier of football, leave the top level to your Norwich and Hulls etc

We’re the bottlers?

Fantastic insight.

Well, it offered more insight than your post. But maybe that sums you up. Weak as
piss when it matters towards rolling your sleeves up and getting behind the lads when the going gets tough.

Younger fans today can't get an atmosphere going like in the past, anywhere, unless there's a drum, cheesy pop song and a laughable UK Boy Scouts Gang Show version of German or Italian ultras. (All Hail Crystal fucking Palace).

We can dream about being Borussia Dortmund as much as we want, it won't happen, even if we were top of the PL, stood with a loudhailer each.

It's football. It's emotional. This season is no different to any other in terms of fan responses.

The atmosphere has been disappointing at times, others it's been fine or better. The same as any other in my near 40 years watching us.

Some people go too far for whatever reason.

Some fans are weary of disappointment and falling at the final hurdle, others are weary of fans feeling like that.

Like many I feel like yesterday was significant and quite probably the start of the writing be prepared for the wall, but...and it's a big BUT...we're still in there fighting and only one game from regaining the top two.

That means everyone at the club needs to stick together as much as possible and focus on Friday. No bigger fan dick measuring contests, no throwing the towel in, and no excuses.

The ‘clappers’. Lol. And the funny thing is you genuinely believe the garbage you write. None of us are content with Championship football, we’d love to be higher, but please have a dose of perspective for that rocking horse head of yours.

We don’t have a devine right to go up. We’re in the mix but have hit a bad patch. It might all go tits up in the end but we still have a great chance. Let’s stick together and get behind the boys. On our day we’re good enough to go up so don’t abandon ship because we’re struggling:

Yer can do one with your Nigel Adkinsesque OP too, I don't see anyone abandoning ship so bugger off with your hard man talk of who you'd want at your side in the trenches the fans are not to blame for the shit show yesterday that is down solely to the players retreating as soon as they got in front. Did you not see Wilder waving them to get forwards ? Probably not, too busy wondering how you can blame the support which to be fair was good at times considering the shit performance the players put on after we scored, and you have the cheek to say I and others talk garbage! Like I said above jog on.

To be fair mate, we’re been moaning like fuck / miserable bastards for decades. I don’t think you can seriously, with a straight face, call our fanbase “happy clappers”.

You really are a full weight prick. I’m not blaming the fans, but I think yours and a loud minority of their reactions was harsh in the extreme. Why can’t we accept collectively that we had a bad day at the office? If anyone has earned some slack it’s Chris and the players.

Adkins was a delusional c**t, but you’re doing you’re best to ignore all other perspective because you pay your money.

Not at all. You don’t like it when receiving it back from your ivory tower. You depress the hell out of me, moan about everything and criticise those that challenge otherwise. Then tell me to jog on because it’s easier than discussing things.

Everyone is entitled to their views, it does take brave people to back us now, but you’re glass half empty vitriol boils my piss. Go and bore someone else.

ah sorry not been on here in a while i didn’t realise you’d been coronated as ‘number one blade spokesman of a generation’ in my absence.. my apologies
what have we got to be pessimistic about? you do know about our playoff record?
given our recent history it is a miracle we have any fans.. stop blaming the fans you’re out of order

I understand why people are pessimistic, I’d say it’s pretty natural given our postwar history. However, calling Chris and the lads bottlejobs is hugely disrespectful. Remember we were tipped for mid table at the start of the season and with four games to go we still have a chance of finishing second with a playoff position guaranteed. Some perspective would be good.
i’m not calling the team bottlejobs .. in fact i think we can still do it
however i won’t be lectured by some self appointed number one fan though .. ymmv

I’m no spokesperson for anyone. But can you enlighten me with how our previous play-off record will have any impact on this season’s campaign?

Are you an insider? Does Blackwell have jurisdiction over picking the team? Does Craig Beattie start up front, or is Gareth Taylor guaranteed game time off the bench?

I didn’t realise how screwed we are until I read your post zzzzz.

exactly.. you aren’t a spokesman for anyone
if you can’t see how our record wouldn’t have an effect on people’s perceptions of our chances then i can’t help you mate.. that’s just human nature
for the record i think we’d win a playoff with Wilder in charge but what i object to is bigger blades lecturing people on how they should behave.. everyone handles it differently you should cut people some slack
