We got Burke for fuck all

I'd be really interested to know why the fuck you say that?
Please explain. What was it he did to warrant that statement?
He hit the post! .............Then what?
Ran fast.

I’d be really interested to know ‘why the fuck’ you think anyone else did better than him? I’m not saying he was incredible, but in a team of poor performances, I thought he was our most dangerous player.

His work rate was really good and he was our most positive player on the pitch. He looked to beat his man whenever he got the ball rather than stop and pass it backwards, his pace and strength gave us an outlet and he was the only player on the pitch who looked like scoring, in my opinion. I think he could be decent in this league, unfortunately we have ‘supporters’ who want to get on his back before the game has even started, which will work wonders for the bloke’s confidence, keep up the great work.

Didzy was more wank than Burke tonight. If your honestly looking at just tonight with clean slate. (Which I bet u won't)

Didzy roamed alot but didn't progress anything and took wank shots that were never going in.
To be fair, any shot that doesn't go in was never going in

We paid £18m plus £7 in possible add ons (which we'll never reach),hes still only very young, and played with a lot more aggression and confidence when he come on.
The lad will be different again when he gets his first goal.
How do you know that?

He's like an attacking version of Monty. If there wasn't any stands he'd be chasing the ball down London Road.
To be fair, Burke could reach the end of London Road faster than anyone could kick a ball down it.

Unfortunately after waiting for the ball to trickle past the last couple of cars, Burke would miscontrol it.

And we still got robbed. He has absolutely no football brain or ability. Incredibly wank. Not just wank. Incredibly.

Can someone tell me what he’s good at? Running down the channels? Ok, but why bother when every time he just knocks it out of play off his shins.

Another piece of sir Wilder has hamstrung us with.

Before anyone tries to weigh in and tell me he was our best forward, do me a favour eh - fucking jog on.
At fuck all he was still £5m over priced

The problem is that to the untrained eye if someone hasn't seen him before is that he's a good physical specimen. That's all well and good but without a footballing brain, it can't be applied to it's full potential.

I was at Whitby Town on Saturday and there was a centre half playing for Darlington (Lexus Beeden), who was an absolute unit, think Claude Davis but bigger but he made Claude Davis look like Franz Beckenbauer. He'd previously been at Reading and on trial at Middlesbrough with people likely being sucked in by seeing the size of him but footballer he ain't.

To be honest, Burke have a better future in sport doing athletics which would make the most of his physical attributes. Football is where the money is but once he's left us, I doubt there will be any other mega money deals heading his way so for his own sake, he'd better have invested his money wisely now.

That's all he needs to do with his pace though.

4 Champ goals for us inside 3 weeks when he left us, and also in a side which was nearly relegated that season because it was full of dross. Just try him in his natural position.
think your right burkes position is right winger in a basic 442 and cant see slav playing that i think he will be moved on

And Wilder thought Burke could play 'up top' (whatever that used to mean) in the PL. Not one of his finest moments/signings as manager.

He really needs to look up more. He just looks like he’s trying to avoid treading in dog shit with his head down all the time when he’s got the ball. Plus, try to control the ball with his feet, thigh etc not his shins and knees.

Thread title words got mixed up

Burkes got fuck all

Slavs system is built around getting the ball up to Burke ffs!

I can’t recall when we had 75% possession, unfortunately I can remember all to weep zero shots on target

a system where Baldock (and Osbourne)is neither a full back or a wing back, Berge is made to stand in the corner like a naughty boy when we take corners and we have 4 players <18yrds from byline for every goal kick.

the corners are played to the near post but we overload back post.

berge and didsy dint know what to do cause we bypassed midfield on the rare occasion we left our one half

Brewster is now a winger?mcburnie a midfield pivot man.

FFS what just happened? The poorest performance given the squad I think I’ve ever seen
Nah a lot more worse than that last year

I'm a fan of Oli Burke's. Consistently puts in 100% which is all you can ask of anybody.
Think all the abuse and scapegoating is pretty poor form and unwarranted. He's still a relatively young player finding his way.

One surprising factor is that a lot of the same posters slating Oli Burke in this thread were the same ones having a pop at me for questioning Mousset's professionalism ("give him another chance") after he mustered a goal against Donny a couple of weeks ago.

One of these players is making an effort for the shirt and the other has done so for a very small % of his time here.

One shows some promise. One doesn’t. Big difference.

Agree to disagree. Mousset has exceptional talent, zero application.

I think Burke has shown a fair amount of promise and looks willing to put the work in. He's fairly new to being a striker, last season he played in the worst attacking team of all time in the PL. Maybe hold off on the judgement for 10 games.

Agree, he's shown more promise than brewster and mcburnie did last season and we spunked the best part of £50m on those two, most of our fans put it down to lack of service when either of them put in one of their usual useless appearances

Burke is not a talented footballer but he gives the opposition problems and he's not hiding in games like some of the others, the scapegoating is very harsh. He takes the odd touch where he looks a clown but so what, he was the only one who came even close to scoring the other night..

He would then do a four step fall due to momentum hit the kerb and then end up in Pizza Kebab Express serving Lamb Kebab with all the trimmings to Moose who just walked in as he cant play for 3 months due to injury.

We'll have him back.

He's just a dumb lad who needs playing right. He was never a 13m+ player, but he's a perfectly capable Championship player.

For us though he was brilliant as an attacking wide man. Odd to see him used as a more central forward
This, he is a winger, not a forward, used right I have no reservations he would be very good for us

all this “he’s actually a winger not a striker” - do wingers not have to actually play football then?

His problem is keeping control of the ball, something wingers also have to do - Wilder might actually be the genius here in putting him in a role that gives him less time on the ball.

Surely you’ve played both positions in the past, if only as a kid. I thought being a striker was the hardest of positions (in terms of technique required, unless you’re just a target man, which is a bit unfashionable) because you get very little time or space. You need good anticipation and a good first touch. If you’re a winger, with pace, you just need to knock it past the full back, run, get a cross in. (Obviously you have to track back etc). With Burke’s pace, it seems likely that he’s more suited to that role. Wide positions tend to be where the space is behind the defence and I think that’s what he needs, to run into the spaces and put balls in the box, he’s not got the footballing nouse to play as a striker.

I've had my drunken outburst on this player, and I can see one positive...

If I was training burke I'd have him constantly running to a line on the pitch then crossing the ball at pace, whipping one in... I'd have him doing that for as long as it took till he got it, I wouldn't allow him to do anything else in training, till he got some proficiency. He needs to break and whip one in....

Then we need brewster to learn to arrive in the box and hit the target.. Which I'm sure he can do, if the ball can be put there for him to run onto..

Whilst this isn't the answer to all our teething trouble, it'd be a start..
