And just for the record we never involved innocents and it was thirty years ago

And this is what I feared when I started this thread. I don't think that anybody is revelling in past 'glories'. But when talk is about flares, smoke bombs, over-zealous policing, standing areas etc. I think it's useful to remember what it was like at football matches in the not-too-distant past.

The potential is still there and I think most of us realise that.

It's a serious matter, but this article just conjures up so many comic images... Grandad Hooligans indeed. The "feds" will have to examine those flasks a bit more carefully (not that I have any reason to believe there could be anything prohibited brought in a flask)

That's where you are wrong, "innocents" were often unavoidably "involved" in a physical sense and then there was the mental worry every week taking your kids to games. Added to all that the reputation of the club and the sport was in the gutter for a while and for years it was not "cool" at all to admit you were a football fan. How times change.

The Shoreham unless somebody handy was coming then stand near the front or on the flanks
full of grandads and pipe smokers them areas
Just to reiterate I personally never saw innocents get hurt
