Was the second goal offside?

  • Yes, clearly offside, read the fucking rule book if you think it was onside

Well was it offside or not?

Here's the appropriate part of the offside law.

Not sure what you point is.

It's not open to discussion or opinion. You can clearly see on the reply that if VAR was in the Championship, the goal would have been disallowed.
However on the night Sheff United were definitely the better team and deserved to win.

What people don't seem to realise is that goals change games.
Let's imagine the goal was disallowed, then it would have remained 1-1.
This means United would have still been pushing forward, taking risks, creating chances, so it's likely we'd have still won 2-1 anyway.

To be fair to the linesman I don't think he can see if Berge is offside because Egan is blocking his view. Egan is off but he doesn't try to play the ball so doesn't get flagged. The lino would be guessing if he put his flag up for Berge being offside.
We've not had a lot of decisions go our way in recent games, tonight made up for it.

It's one of those decisions levelling up moments
The was the ball over the line at villa was wrong leveller . The goal not given at spurs for a blurred photo of a boot

Well, clearly there is a difference of opinion on whether it was offside or not

I am enjoying it. Doesn't mean we cannot discuss one of the major points of the game?

True. But you do sound a bit pissed off and it was seemingly the first thing you went on about (even starting a thread about it) after a great win. Personally, I am too pleased atm about the result to give a rats fuck whether it was offside or not. Like i said, why don't you just enjoy the result without trying to find issues around whether it was offside or not? It wasn't cos it was given. The record books say 2-1 to the Blades.

Have you seen the replay? It's as clear as day, that Berge sticks his leg out to try and play the ball.
Anyone arguing it should have been allowed are just being awkward or being delusional.
Think some are trying to say "sticking a leg out" shouldn't be classed as distracting the keeper however under the rules attempting to play the ball is classed as a distraction. It's also been mentioned that it might have been difficult for the linesman to have a proper view, VAR would have disallowed though.

We lost out with the ghost goal at Villa, so it feels nice to be lucky and gain something so controversial.
However it's a bit of a cliche when people say....we only beat Sunderland because of a dodgy goal that shouldn't have counted
but as already mentioned if the goal is correctly disallowed we continue to play in a positive style and it's likely we still win the game 2-1.

I'm not pissed off at all, i'm delighted to get a ref decision go our way.

Anyone arguing it should have been allowed are just playing with you or being delusional.

It's similar to the ghost goal at Villa, when there are photo stills (proof) of the ball being behind in the goalies hands but behind the post.

I am totally of the opinion it was offside, I thought that much was obvious from the wording of the poll questions.

Absolutely loving it that it was likely offside, Don Goodman wasn't happy so that makes it even better. the record books will say 2-1 win to the Blades. We deserved it anyway on the balance of play.

What a great win.

Can’t cope with the horrendous SkySports commentary. It’s not offside. He’s not touched it. He’s not stopped the keeper from getting it. He’s not gained any advantage at all. It’s already nearly in the net when Sanders leg is out.

Ball was in the net before Sanders foot got message from distant brain to maybe….go for the ball.

Makes a change The Blades benefit from Referee/Linemen's mistake. I don't give a shit anyway nice six points cushion. if boro can drop more points on Saturday that will be even better.UTB.

Probably was offside with VAR in play.

Although with VAR in play they are down to ten men with that foul on Jebbo.
Agreed that was a filthy two footed scissor tackle. The Blades deserved those 2 goals and those 3 points. That was the 1st time that we have scored 2 goals since the 3-2 loss to Millwall. Great performance Blades away from home against a team going for the playoffs although tonight seriously hurt them.
