I read that in Yoda's voice.
Neil Warnock as part of the StarWars Universe. Worst idea for a spin-off/crossover film ever?

Lando Callrissian after he signed for us......

"You slimy, double-crossing, no-good swindler. You've got a lot of guts coming here, after what you pulled."

He found out he was behind Geoff Horsfield in the pecking order !

There is no doubt who would play Han Solo in that venture, the football legend, the midfield maestro, star of stage and screen, the nation's favourite, Mr. TV himself...........

Such as...?

He used to tell all the first team squad that they would be fined if they didn't turn up to the mid week reserve game. This isn't something that is common in the game.

It soon became apparent nothing was held against you if you didn't turn up, and as was the idea, players were more than happy to hand over 50 quid to get the day/afternoon off.

I've heard half a dozen players tell the same story.

Warnock also alludes in his book that Clough taught him a few tricks of the trade.

Funny you should mention this, I listened to Undr the Cosh (a great podcast with Jon Parkin and Chris Brown) and their guest was Billy Paynter this week. I think Billy mentioned working under Warnock at some point, then at the end of the podcast, there's a snippet about "a manager" that used to take a cut of appearance money, and they referenced said manager bringing on defenders when they were winning comfortably so he could take a slice of the appearance money.....

Read Keith Gillespie's autobiography (outstanding read by the way) and he will tell you about the late substitutions ;)

Jason Puncheon got in a bit of bother for revealing too much on twitter as well didn't he.

As cash rich as Croesus but still working , it appears he is driven by greed.

Would you say the same about Wenger? You can slag off Warnock for a lot of things but I admire him for still working and achieving success when he could have retired long ago

It will be a strange night on Monday.
Half the home crowd would happily wring his brass neck.
And half are still grateful for the excitement he gave us in the noughties.

Saying half of us would happily wring his neck is incorrect, I'd say about 20 percent think he's a twat.

Some fans these day's won't even remember him. Eleven years since his last teamtalk.

And Fergie. Don't worry, it's a Sheffield ambition thing. If you have a bit of money you call it quits and sit on your arse all day.

You mean that Puncheon posted potentially libellous comments on Twitter which he promptly deleted and was fined £15000 for making.

More than one player has stated you could pay him to get out of playing in a reserve game.

Well if at least six players have all told the same story then it's possibly got some truth in it.
But were they allegedly paying Warnock £50 to get out of playing in a reserve game or allegedly paying him to avoid turning up to watch?
Reports seem to differ.

Also, how did the money allegedly change hands?
Did the entire first team squad line up outside his office with their brown envelopes?
Or were there 16 different secret liaisons in underground car parks after every reserve match?
Nobody ever seems to drill down into the details of these alleged shady dealings.

Throw in Sir Bobby telling him where to go over personal fees for selling Quinn, and my mate's Dad telling him to fuck off for wanting a personal fee for bringing United to play the team he managed in a friendly.

All allegedly :p

He hardly plays things down in his autobiography either.

I’ve read it, and don’t recall anything that alludes to it off the top of my head. I also can’t check as a QPR fan that borrowed it never returned it. Can you point to anything within it in particular?

The bit about learning tricks of the trade from Brian Clough.

These types of things are far from just Warnock. I've heard plenty of similar stories from others at the plethora of after dinner speaking events I've been to over the years.

Managers didn't always get paid great salaries and many of the old skool found ways of supplementing this. The stuff isn't stealing or extortion, but some may see it as greedy or unethical I suppose.

The brown paper bag in motorway service stations allegations against some is a different kettle of fish.

I’d suggest that closer to 75% think he’s a twat whist acknowledging what he achieved for us. I’m one of them. He did very well indeed on a limited budget. Both he and his football, however, were unsophisticated and incapable of adapting to a higher level as he has demonstrated throughout his career. That’s why he loves the Championship, him.

Additionally, he was frequently a complete embarrassment on the touch line and in interviews.

I’ll applaud him quietly but no cheers. Very familiar at the Lane Library, come to think of it.

Fun fact: Jason Puncheon was fined by the FA and apologised to Warnock and deleted his tweets. But the FA people told a parliamentary committee 2 years ago that no one from the FA had ever contacted Puncheon and asked him about his comments. They just disciplined him.

I would say I find that remarkable, but of course this is the FA we are talking about.

Well, it depends exactly what they do.
