How long before he gets fired at Cardiff?
I'm thinking January.

What would actually be the point though? They were expected to finish bottom of the table. If a new person comes in, they will still be expected to finish bottom of the table. They then have the challenge of mounting a promotion bid next season.

If their model is a Burnley-esque long game, unless whoever they bring into the club is a good bet to steering them back up the following year then they need to stay the course.

Andy Goldstein mentioned Warnock and Cardiff on Talksport Radio last night.

He said there’s no doubting that Warnock is a great manager at Championship level, one of the best records in that league.
But he also stated that Warnock has consistently struggled in the PL, one of the worse records in that league.

He questioned whether Cardiff should have immediately sacked Warnock on promotion and brought in a foreign manager or at least someone with a track record of keeping teams up in the PL.

Cundy said he understood the logic but said it would be incredibly harsh to sack a manager upon gaining promotion and he thinks Warnock had earnt the the right to be given his chance but both suspect he could be gone by Christmas then no doubt NW will be in big demand in the Championship again.

Plenty of clubs talk a good game, but once in the Prem do everything under the sun to stay there (bringing in Big Fat Sam etc).

Burnely were one of the few who stuck to their guns, got relegated but came back stronger.

My money is on Vincent Tan sacking Warnock by Xmas, for some foreign mercenary who might just keep them up. They will of course then go down the following season with a massively inflated wage bill, and the whole circus will start again.....

Best thing to do with Warnock in the Prem would be to remove the responsibility of signing players - get a Director of Football to identify and sign the talent and give Warnock the raw materials to motivate and mould into a football team. His hit rate isn’t great when it comes to transfers (look at some of the strikers he signed for us), which is fine when dealing with frees and low wages/fees...but give him some money and he’s useless - the scatter-gun approach doesn’t work when spending Prem level money. And to expect him to wheel and deal himself a Prem quality team from outcasts and lower league players is unrealistic

Tan’s seen that, done that. I’d be surprised if he goes down that route again. I think, given his spending (or lack of) he’s taking back some of the cash he lost last time and is content to go down with the parachute payments.

There’s no reason to sack Warnock, Guardiola couldn’t keep Cardiff up with those players and they just won’t be able to do enough good business in the JTW to bring in sufficient players of the required quality. Why spend on a new manager (£5m per year) and five players at £15-20m each just to stay in the PL with a wage bill so high that you’re not actually making any profit? Particularly when you could still go down.
