Ward Appeal

I'm not really disagreeing with the dangerous nature of the tackle, whether it's intentional or just hot-headed and clumsy. I just think some of the vitriol on here is way out of order. "Ward is a total idiot", "contempt", "cowardly" and "cheat".

Ridiculous.

I think the issue is MtG that the only reason why you would bring the studs down in such a manner as Jamie did would be to foul another player. It wasn't a conventional ball winning tackle by any means, and while you can't say with 100% certainty that he wanted to cause injury, it was hardly a clean effort to win the ball.

Looking at it again, he turns his back on the player (knowing full well where he was though) before stamping down with his right foot. Wardy's first reaction was to have a go at Killkenny because he will have known that he didn't make any contact. He may well also say he was going for the ball and there was no intent but you don't stamp down like that. Whichever way you look at it it was reckless and there was always a chance that he could have made contact which makes it dangerous play and a sending off.

The ball's run away from him and he's going relatively quickly. He then shits his pants when he sees the arm come up, which doesn't help.

There's no way he's just going to think "Oh well, I've lost control of it, best just give it up" and he can't stop because he's running quite quickly. He's made a split second decision to throw his foot at it.

It's clumsy, it's a poor tackle. He's not everything that's wrong with modern football, a coward or a cheat.

All, your arguments will be settled by the sweet FA. (who love us immensly.)

Not all of us are saying he is. I love Wardy to bits and think he will go down as a Blades legend eventually but I cant defend that challenge, I'm sorry it was a straight red and in my eyes it was extremely foolish to go in like that.

If you raise your feet off the ground there is only one thing going through your mind IMO. I am not suggesting Ward is cowardly as a person (he certainly isnt), but the challenge was a cowardly and very cynical one. If you're confident of your ability to win the football you dont need to go in like that.

Wardy doesnt deserve abuse but he does need to have his wrists slapped for being a naughty boy.

Precisely. Spot on Jim.

I don't think there's much chance of that. His attitude reminds me a lot of Paul Devlin, another one who thought he was a bit better than he was & was always complaining about his wages.

Britton took the arm to the face,it was clear that Snodgrass was going to take him down after he had embarrassed two dirties and was going on a clear run at goal.

The worst incident was the nasty studs up tackle on Bartley which went unpunished.

Ward is a total idiot, a disgrace to the club and its fans. I have nowt but contempt for him. He is epitomy of the idiotic modern day footballer who thinks this aggressive, cowardly behaviour is the way forward. He is a dirty, cheat with no respect for his club or anything. Strong stuff I know - obviously don't know him but I am really wound up about it.

I'm disgusted that speed thinks we should appeal and I don't think the Leeds player faked anything. Someone has just tried to break his leg, he was committed and ended up on the ground, I think some part of ward caught his ankle and he sat up holding it, not rolling around in agony.

An appeal would seem to be appropriate Stevie G does this kind of thing every week and only on the rare occasion does he receive a yellow card except he usually connects with player. Jamie should have only been sent off if it was Stevie he missed with the tackle and not Kilkenny.

In my opinion Wards 'tackle' was a blatant sending off, he miscontrolled the ball and jumped in out of frustration, making the referees job easy.

I don't know him, but Ward comes across as a bit of a mardy twat when things aren't going his way and this reminded me of his sending off in the play off final. Totally different incidents, but both appeared motivated by his own personal frustrations with no regard whatsoever to the consequences for the team.

Ward seems to lose his composure in the big games something Speed should be able to correct ,a fine might be one route to take with him he needs to get a grip.

A fine of what, 2 weeks? To a lad thats on a minimum of 5k a week. This is the same lad who's agent was touting him about last season, so his agent will probably try and grab the club by the balls...

The only thing for Ward is to have to fight for his place. 3 match ban and if we're doing ok by the time he's back then he has to work for his place again.

I'm sure we'll now have to go into the loan market to replace him as we were struggling for wingers as it was. Now we're fooked.

Wardy has never been a winger. A Whinger, maybe, but never a winger. To have that title you have to beat a full back and put in a decent cross on more than one game in three.

Get him in the middle with Cresswell and see if he can do the business. If not then make a decision on his future.

I disagree that he's not a winger, for me thats his best position. True he can't cross, but nor can he finish.

Speedo: "Jamie hasn't touched the lad", "people who don't know football might look at it differently". "It's part of his game he's got to look at".

"In future, I've learnt, keep your mouth shut until you've spent a couple of days taking a look at it".

He also said after taking the views from different sources thing. Now thatobviously means this forum.
Good job i started this thread.
Olle take note thats how you get your opinions heard.;)

Looks like Ward has picked up another injury perhaps making an appeal more of a waste of time.
From the BBC site, Striker Jamie Ward is suspended and in any case has a muscle strain.

>Yep, loved every minute of Saturday - said so on match thread.
heh.. good lad micalijo :D.. i can't understand all of the vitriol toward wardy.. in fact i'm shocked.. he's one of our best players IMO

Really? I thought he let us down badly on Saturday. Not for the first time he's been stupid and although he didn't break the leeds lad's leg, he jumped into it and could've done some damage.

I like him, like his spirit but he's far from one of our best players and somehow ends up being the freekick and corner taker, when in reality his delivery is pretty poor - Its like asking Heskey to stay on his feet for 90 mins. He has a long way to go
