at the end of the cliched day
what happens on the pitch is sacrosanct
a professional match is in play, with TWO sides taking place
The off the pitch shenanigans in the board only really concern one team
Do they owe money on the pitch , no
Do takeovers take place on a pitch , no
11 players on each side are battling for a win

fans job is to stay off the pitch and let it pan out
protest to those that matter in the boardroom outside the boardroom
fair play to owls fans , 10 years of their club swindling the taxman to pay players and several last second reprieves in court
buying shit players and engaging clown managers they protested in their car park and outside the board members entrance
only entering the field of play after Palace sent them down to hit one of their players

This really is a zero sum game now.

They think we are twats for 'supporting' SISU
We think they are twats for all the reasons elaborated on for pages and pages on loads of threads.
No one is going to concede that the other side has a point.
Generations of fans on either side will hate each for reasons that are shit now and will become completely obscure in about a week.

So can we please get back to discussing whether Murphy was sold for the Desso pitch!

Seriously, no fucker will hate them and in two sleeps time we'all go back to hating the Pigs, Leeds and Forest.

What do you reckon the response would be from the blades fans if we would have done something similar to McCabe and the Cov fans sang we love McCabe? Bet a view from Sheffield u from Cov fans would b identical.

I admit I'm pissed off Cov fans nearly ruined the result for us with bloody whistling etc but we should be glad they invaded the pitch as it disrupted their team and we won as a result.

End of the day football fans are all the same, we think our fans are better than anyone else's and we are whiter than white when its bollocks.

We haven't though. Neither did Charlton. It's a failure to control their fans. A fine decreases the budget their football club chairman was talking about on the radio today. Ill thought out. No hypotheticals as to what if are relevant. They did it, probably cost them a point. Down to them and them alone.

Nah, the role of a football fan is to be somewhat twattish in seeking to wind up the oppos. I can handle that accusation.

However, losing your shit entirely in the face of said twattishness is something pretty special.

I'm wondering whether they were looking through the drizzle, north towards BDTBL? If they were, then I'm guessing the view from Coventry would include a bright golden glow on the horizon!!

Me and our kid went to Coventry for their first ever home game in div 1 in 1967 i think. Can't remember if we won 1.0 or lost 1.0 but their fans thought they were the bees knees and spent most of the game trying to get on our end and after the game they were waiting outside for a mosh up.............big mistake. Hated them ever since!
Drew 2-2. Gil Reece and Phil Cliff scored for us

I would like to & want to defend us but i cant because there is alot fans can say & get away with it. But we should know there untouchable subjects. Of Course coventry & for that matter Blackburn, Cardiff, Blackpool are going to be quite angry when we are cheering for guy/company they say are ripping the club apart

Its like walking, a driver runs over your neighbours dog. You high 5 him & then be surprised when it kicks off as your neighbours quite angry

And this is why football fans hate certain clubs. Before last night's match, I couldn't care less about Coventry. Now, having seen the amount of shite they've spouted - 'I'm glad Billy Sharps son died', hoping for one of our buses to crash etc. - I will reserve a special hatred for this insipid little club.

This level of hatred has nothing to do with a few sarcastic chants about SISU, the people spouting this venom were born cunts, live like cunts and will die as cunts.

Unfortunately, they know no better. Second and third generation of cunts Cunts breed cunts. Each generation bigger cunts than the brothers and sisters who spawned them . Interbred twats all.

Coventry fans have brought this upon themselves, and anybody opposing this or backing them in any way were obviously not there to witness what was a horrid game to watch. Whistling (why the fuck would bringing whistles make a statement to the fucking owners anyway?) was emphasised a lot louder whilst we were in possession, AND the lobbing of tennis balls at Done and Coutts was disgraceful, had they been coins or bottles or even flares the matter would be taken a lot more seriously but that isn't the point. The point is Coventry fans thought they were making a statement or liked to imagine they were doing so but in actual fact they hadn't thought any of it through. Resulting in us Blades getting mightily fucking pissed off as what could've been an entertaining game of football became a petulant little episode from them; switching their focus from SISU in the first half to stopping us from winning by keeping the ball, forcing a break in play etc; which almost worked. The retaliation from us was merely chants, they pissed us off we pissed them off. All this talk of "solidarity" don't make me fucking laugh why should we be dragged into this mess merely because Cov fans received some back and can't organise a proper fucking demonstration aimed at the owners?! This has been blown way out of proportion thanks to complete idiocy on their part. And seeing The Star and Alan Biggs having their misinformed twattish say on the matter pisses me off further. There's always gonna be idiots from United's end looking to spark something unnecessary but chanting was hardly controversial. Sometime I think this club is cursed with bad publicity being one major result, but I couldn't be prouder of this club. Fuck Coventry and fuck everyone else.

I think this is one of the best comments on Covgate that I've read or heard. Let's get some facts straight:

The 'demo' had nothing to do with 'protesting against SISU' (who almost certainly wouldn't have had anybody present). Like all 'demonstrations', it was a 'look at me!' exercise staged for the Sky cameras by the Snowflake Generation. The whistles and throwing objects had one and only one intention - to get the match abandoned. Fuck the fact that the Blades fans had paid a lot of money to be there. Fuck the fact that our efforts so far this season could have been seriously undermined by a bunch of petulant fuckers. There are many better alternatives for showing dissent - staying away from games being the better. But, by paying their money to attend an event and then trying to disrupt it and getting it abandoned seems a particularly brain-dead idea. SISU will be counting the gate money and the Sky money and laughing all the way to the bank.

The sight of acres of empty sky-blue seats shows that, if Coventry did go to the wall, nobody would be really bothered. A once middling club have died a death and, truth be known, not many actually care. Think of a once-thriving pub which has failed to adapt, not noticed the plethora of other attractions and has gone the way of the dinosaurs. (Football is no different, whatever some might think).

Utterly predictably, Radio Sheffield followed The Stir's lead last night with the usual rent-a-gob pig fans reading from their pre-determined script 'No class', 'where's the solidarity?' blah, blah. Well here's news for them. There is no solidarity in football. Sure some might toss a few coppers in a bucket when clubs like Rotherham (or Wednesday) or on the earhole but it's the usual 'I've done my bit' sense of self-worth that accompanies all charitable donations. Where was the 'solidarity' from Coventry (and saying 'it was only the tiny minority' doesn't wash) saying they were 'glad' about Billy's son dying.' Fuck me, that happened over 5 years ago. Have they really trawled their history book to find the most offensive insult? Ditto wishing our coaches would crash? But, in the face of that we sang a few pro-SISU chants and WE haven't got any class... As the old saying goes 'a lie can be halfway around the world before the truth has got its boots on' and The Stir and Radio Sheffield are utterly complicit in this.
Finally (well, nearly :D), if any club should know about 'lack of solidarity' it's the Blades. Over the years, we've endured a shitstorm of negative publicity and most of the footballing world has either remained mute or gleefully stirred the pot :fattwat:. Not just Tevezgate. The 'Battle of Bramall Lane' (where the actions of the players caused trouble, not the fans) and of course Chedgate where, disgracefully, some of our own fans joined in the PC credential-burnishing by joining in the publicity-famished Jean Fucking Hatchett and the '150,000 signatories' on her fucking petition. I've got news for her. The last time I looked, there were over 60m living in the UK. And of course, Ched has won his appeal. Did you see Hatchett or Martin Samuel rushing to redress the balance and admit they were wrong? Me neither.

I must say, I find the reaction to this bizarre, especially from other club's fans. Wonder if they would be so understanding if they were at a match they needed to win with constant whistling, objects on the pitch breaking up attacks, having balls thrown at their players and the constant threat of pitch invasions which occurred occasionally, with the possibility of the match being abandoned at a stage when the result would have been a draw denying the possibility of the win?
Then we have their fans wishing our coaches have accidents on the way home, glorifying in one of their fans laying out a Blade and the sick response of one individual regarding Billy's son. Again.
Oh, and now wishing our club goes in oblivion, which is rather hypercritical.

I also wonder what their response will be if in the return they are desperate for a win to survive and we pull the exact same stunts? I suspect they wouldn't be very understanding.

The thing about it is, before all this, any Blade who knew about their issues supported them. After the last match at Bramall Lane Sinclair sent a message of support and Blades clapped in agreement.
Most Blades fans might still agree that SISU are dreadful owners who shouldn't be allowed near any club, but I suspect a lot now couldn't care less if they survive or not and won't be actively supporting them.

Can someone clarify this. After the pitch invasion at around 85 minutes, there was general muttering and conjecture amongst the Blades' fans (where I was, anyway) about the game being abandoned. Would it have been replayed or would we have got 3 points automatically?

Cant really add anything. Spot on.

but I suspect a lot now couldn't care less if they survive or not and won't be actively supporting them.

I agree with virtually all you have put Sheep in your post, but i do have to add a footnote to your comment that a lot of sufc fans wouldnt care less if they survive or not. This may be true but there will be others (myself included) who after the events on Thursday and the Coventry fans display of self entitlement and abuse of sufc players and fans, will now hope that they go under. I hope that it all goes tits up for them now and i sincerely mean that. I couldnt give a rats fuk about them or their future. I hope its a very short one left.

It was after 70 minutes so I think the result would have stood as it was at the point at which the game was abandoned.

and if Coventry had got a last minute winner it would have been"how we all
laughed at those northern scamps from Sheffield, with their gallows-humour"

Oh, and for the record. I didn't join in with the pro SISU chants - but I can understand why some did.

Never been to a game like it. Was nothing like a game of football.

It was after 70 minutes so I think the result would have stood as it was at the point at which the game was abandoned.

That would be true if the postponement were weather related but I don't know if the same is true when it is caused by fans. Not sure either way to be honest.

This is the most ever Coventry City has been talked about on any football forum ever including all those Coventry City forums who talk about Coventry City ever but really don't know what they're talking about or protesting about ever cos they don't understand that no one really gives a fuck about them ever and that includes the people who live in Coventry who have never been to see Coventry City ever and only ever think about Coventry City because they went to London and brung back a silver cup from London Town ever and it was not even mentioned by ATV at the time cos no one could recall the player with the big hair who didn't score at London but wasn't there on Thursday cos he was at Jimmy Hill's pad in London Town chasing Ian Wallace's perm about the room when Billy Sharp scored with a great shot that beat them 1-0 at the time and it was a very good night if you didn't like to watch the football match because everyone there who wasn't blowing a whistle didn't have Syphillis on their lips afterwards as they were all contaminated by Dave Lee Travis and Noele Gordon and Roger Tonge who didn't like Coventry the city cos they wuz from the Birmingham slums which still were better than living in Coventry Ricoh ever.

Interesting point, I did some research on this and only about 7 games in English history have not been replayed. And in all cases the result stood as it was. Never has one club been awarded the result.

This 70 minutes "rule" is an urban myth, almost always the game is replayed ie we potentially could have lost a return game and got no points.

However, of the 7 games leaving the result as it was did not materially affect anything in the league. Four results go way back, the 3 most recent are Man U fans getting the game abandoned right at the end - the Denis Law back heel for Man City - Man U went down anyway.

Our game against WBA. Ref abandoned due to 6 men, 3-0 result stood. Warnock was cleared by the way.

Blackpool fans getting game abandoned at 0-0. Last game of the season, they went down anyway and were given a suspended 3 point deduction.

This is why this recent game could have caused extreme problems and the FA needs to clamp down on these morons. It potentially affect points, the competition and the League.

Credit to the ref, he kept it going but there's no guarantee another ref will. If it's mid season the FA / FL could well suggest a replay. There is no precedent to award the game to the innocent side.

I suspect Coventry fans will try this again unless the side starts to picks up points.

They weren't complaining this time last season when they were top of the league.
