It’s not just the poor outcomes with the var tech that is an issue.

I’m still pissed off with that Newcastle goal where the flag goes up but is ignored by the ref, so they score while our players stop playing.
But time and again in matches before and after that farce, refs have blown up immediately when the Lino flag is raised. Why is there no consistency on that?

This is only happening because of var so is highly relevant to the whole var debate

It's horseshit however and whenever you look at it.

The argument for VAR is as daft as the argument to remain in the EU.

Both horseshit.
There was a Vote. VAR won. It's here to stay. What sort of fucking ...... something ..... traitor ..... go & live in a ..... something ..... take back ...... Get VAR Done ...... vote ..... been a Vote ...... you lot voted ...... how many re-votes do you want ..... best of three ..... been a Vote ..... not going anywhere ..... fucking Brexit Anology ..... do you fucking voting want ..... Snowflake .....

Omitted racist.

Like I said, daft.

The people making these VAR calls, it’s not an independent organisation regulated by the FA. It’s a private company located in a business park behind some offices.

it’s no surprise Wolves and ourselves are getting so much hammer as we’re upsetting the established Top 6.

There is a story this morning that FIFA looking at changing offside rule to read "clear daylight between player and player offside", or summat daft like that.

And it's LIVE from Stockley Park as EPL and PGMOL officials inspect the office on "game day"

Michael Owen clearly doesn't understand how the technology works. It's not black and white it's several shades of grey.
The problem is the frame rate of the cameras that are used for VAR is too low. Apparently its 50 frames per second. So it takes an image every 0.2 seconds. VAR must choose a frame where the ball is actually kicked, so If one frame shows he's nearly kicking it, they must go to the next frame. The margin of error could be as much as 38cm when you also take into account the speed that players are travelling. So while it might be more accurate than the referee it's nowhere near accurate.
Its a frame every 0.02 seconds not 0.2.

Whilst not Sheff Utd this was Aston Villa's goal being disallowed earlier....

Yep. Load of fucking chutney. What we are not looking at there is:

Is the ball player's foot (or head as it were) in contact with the ball at that moment? At what point is offside called? Is it when the player touches the ball (in which case what if he trapped it under his foot, or chested it to himself) oris it when the ball is moving forward, or is it when the ball leaves his foot as a 'ball played'?

With that in mind, VAR for offside should be scrapped. Lino/Ref on pitch make the decision.

pommpey

Had to get a majority of 14 and I don't think the Prem disclosed the votes, so all we know is at least 14/20 voted for it, and 3 of 20 aren't even in the league anymore.

Could theoretically be that the three relegated teams wanted it, and the three promoted teams didn't get asked so if some of those goes down might get spicy.

I'm in favour of a VAR system that works. We don't really have one currently.

They should rebrand it 'second look' or 'referee assistance system' or something, and just let the on pitch official look at everything. It's the men in a box miles away that's making it a farce.

Pipe the replays to the screen, let the ref decide and change the rules where you can to prioritise the game, not geometry.
Agree with this - pitchside monitor (which they have) for which the 4th official has control, to flag CLEAR AND OBVIOUS errors to the ref. They all have a quick look and come to a sensible decision. No need for Stockley Park. We can then be left to talk about actual football :)

Trouble is now they have made a rod for their own backs with some of the decisions, it would not suprise me in the least to see a team walk of the pitch if they have some tight var decisions go against them, like todays with villa or the toenail or the armpit....especially if it was a televised game, i said the other day in a post that at some point, a p1ssed fan in the crowd will, when several var decisions has gone against his team, will run on the the pitch and attack either the linesman or ref or even both, Worse than that is the possibility of it all kicking off with the fans...esp in front of the cameras.

I guess I'm the only one whose only issue with VAR offside decisions is the amount of time it takes for them to be decided?

There is a clear & obvious financial reality. The only VAR Stats that matter will have a £ sign on them. That's the Pond we're in now. Controversy & forensic mm analysis will be lapped up by the life blood TV subscribers around the globe. The Premier League is a TV show. It needs new characters, plot twists, game show dynamics, water cooler moments, I didn't expect that surprises, think EastEnders, think Dr Who. The current VAR shenanigans will be superb for viewing figures around the World. Audience = Pounds = Wages = Signings In The Window. Margin of error. Frames per second. Worst net VAR goals. Heels a mm offside. All interesting.....
But, none of them are important Stats as they are missing the crucial £ sign. Other Leagues around the World are using VAR & Hawkeye. Unless the Premier League do, they'll be seen as old fashioned & analogue by the people who are paying their TV Subscriptions around the Globe.

Was really hopeful that it would be a benefit for the game. I’m totally disillusioned with it now

I am coming to believe that is the point of the PGMOL's abysmal implementation of VAR. Your starting point on VAR was, I think, like mine ... not sold, but hopeful (even optimistic) it could bring the officiating standard up and improve the game. As implemented, I am 100% against it. This is I think what the PGMOL wants. Through misapplication, they appear to be attacking the part of VAR that (surprise! surprise!) endangers the most officiating jobs (offsides/linesmen). I think the PGMOL is spiking VAR on purpose.

Now, that IS a different angle. And, of course, it doesn’t just endanger jobs, it’s also fundamentally eroded the authority and autonomy of officials on the pitch. I’m not one for conspiracy theories, but there could be mileage in this?

Or, to put it another way, to use the myriad of camera angles they have to correctly work out where each player is?

Aye them cameras that aren't quick enough to tell if it's actually offside or not. Good one.

Interesting theory Jim - we will never know because no one will ever come clean about that
