Reflecting on Wembley

Biggest let down from yesterday for me… not singing Starman at full time during the trophy celebrations. Greek flags waving, players holding the GB2 shirt, not a dry eye amongst any blades with even half a heart.

That was the thing l most hoped for on Friday night, not the clubs income, keeping our best players or the premier league.

I was numb after the game, not instantly heartbroken like after previous attempts. But as the dust settles it’s that missed celebration for GB that hurts.
I had visions of the players all wearing Baldocks number 2 shirt to collect the trophy.

Should always know better than to daydream about the Blades.

Managed about 9 years the last time, Forest are the most recent to do it, absolutely no reason why we can't do the same.
Mate, your team are miles away from being good enough to stay up. I was worried about our team going up and totalling a record low points total, and that’s a team who finished comfortably above you. It’s going to be a tough watch for you next season, but you’ll likely be competitive in the Championship the season after.

The team that starts in August will most likely look very different to the one that finished on Saturday, as I've already stated I live in the present so I'm happy to wait and see, predicting the future in football is not my style, it's basically the super six, a total lottery.

I think Sunderland could give it a real go at staying up.

Yes, they will need some investment, but won't be an easy place for teams to turn up and turn them over, as that place will be rocking every week.

You'll come straight back down but be stronger the season after for it. The gulf is massive irrespective of if you throw money at it or not. Personally I've no ill will towards Sunderland at all and wish you all the best but VAR, getting dry bummed every week and ridicule on MOTD along with ridiculous ko times and fewer Saturday games will piss you off eventually. Good luck.

It’s not a total lottery to predict promoted teams will struggle in the Premier League, you clearly have no idea of the gulf between the divisions. Your current team don’t have any players that will cause problems for those in the Premier League and you’ll be buying players that other teams in the division don’t deem good enough for them. You’ll be cannon fodder.

Obviously I am delighted we've done it, but I don't even know myself if I'm looking forward to it or not, as already previously stated, if it's straight back down the only positive is the para payments.

I'll bookmark your post and get back to it next season, you were one of the favourites to go back up automatically, then you were favourites to go up in the playoffs. Neither happened, it's a funny old game as they say.

I’m very still got a sore throat today from screaming after seeing our goals go in, surrounded by smiles and getting hugged by randomers. Two nil up, this is our time.

It’s hard to believe we went through such massive highs and came away with nothing.

Of course we’re getting screwed in the prem, but you still want to win the big games, for the memories and also your clubs future.

I won’t hear from you as you’ll have nothing to gloat about, you’ll be the Southampton of this season. They somehow managed to get promoted via the playoffs last season, after looking pretty average. Finished this season on 12 points. Enjoy the ride.

The only way you won't hear from me is if you deploy the ignore function upon me.

Sunderland will go down but he stronger for it. They'll likely be a yo yo club for a few years now . Like the rest of the yo-yo clubs they will soon come to hate being in the Premier League. It's such a bizarre feeling wanting your team to get promoted but having zero excitement for the prize at the end of it. Burnley fans are saying the same right now. Leicester and Southampton fans too. Obviously Leeds think they'll finish in The Champions League but another relegation will probably wake them up too.

That's the nub of it. My Ipswich supporting brother-in-law said it took him about 2 months before he hated this season. He knew from our chats that they would be like the rogue cousin at the family wedding, not wanted but had to be invited and sat at a table in the back corner. Day 1 stuffed by Liverpool and first hand experience of the constant conscious/subconscious* bias of the officials and VAR in favour of the permanent 17 residents! [*delete depending on your own view]

I'm gutted that we lost but only as, like most, i just wanted to see us win a big game for once. No interest in being in the PL again but i do appreciate that that's unrealistic if we want to progress as a club. Despite the players we'll lose i feel more confident that another 12-months might allow the youngsters to develop more and fit together with incomings to form a team better able to compete if we were to go up in 12 months time.

I share the misgivings of most about CWAK and some of the strange mistakes and decisions this season and carry the scars from the stubbornness of his last 12-18 months of CW1. That said, on balance, i think the rebuild this year was done pretty well and i think we've more chance of being in contention again if he stays than if we have the upheaval another change would bring. I'd also ask those wanting change to consider whether our rivals would be happier if we kept CWAK or not. Personally i think they would see it as the 2nd best day of the season in S6 if they were to leave.

Finally, good luck to Sunderland, whilst i fear for them i would be delighted if they bloody some noses and can be competitive. Without exception i found their fans gracious and respectful after the game and appreciative of our pain.

Win, lose or draw!!!

Time will tell. Carry on sobbing your salty tears....lol
I actually hope you do well next season, prove that a promoted team without the previous advantage of parachute payments can go up and give a good account of themselves like we did a few years ago. I hope Leeds and Burnley fester and die but you lot seem ok.

Not sure if your owners will throw wads of their own cash at it but if they do you might get lucky and ‘do a Forest’. If not it’ll be a slog, just make sure you don’t come down with the likes of Rodwell on eye watering contracts this time around.

Anyway, all the best, I hope you beat Newcastle, I am still a bit salty about the 8-0!

Mackem magic I have no real issue with Sunderland fans. Always drank in mixed pubs in Sunderland before games and again on Saturday, Never any bother.
I really hope you can buck the trend but as you say you will need to do a Forest to stand any chance (as we would have done). Look how much they spent and work out if you can do anything like without putting the club’s future in jeopardy if you go back down.
As far as the Premier League is concerned the journey is miles better than the destination.

Yeah I agree to a degree, most of our last period was a battle against the drop, however, we had some great times completing the great escape year after year, especially the six in a row period v the skunks. We were unfortunate in the event that people Ellis Short had hired, were absoulte bluffers, and no more money after that.

We have a young owner who's parents are well embodied in the football world, plus interested investors, so who knows what's next. Just got to go through the journey and see what happens. Of course it's going to be difficult, but it would be against my grain to give up the good fight before it's even started.

You should always go up with a sense of optimism but seriously mate, we were the better team Saturday and we're pretty average to be honest. We have our moments, our first goal being a prime example but the way we ran straight through you was scary. Premier League teams, even the poor ones have bags of pace and their fitness is on a different level and they'll do that for fun.

When we went up with the overlapping centre halves we were organised, had a new style and we were a rock solid group of tried and tested professionals playing a style they were very comfortable with. The next season was a different story, losing our centre half killed our game plan but the big one was last season. In just a couple of years our second division (Championship) tryers were miles off. Teams one touched it past us and they pretty much scored at will. That's going to happen to you. The last six promoted clubs had it happen and looking at Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland there's nothing to suggest that any of them will buck that trend. Not fast enough, not fit enough, not cute enough and look out for the officials and the VAR, you saw how they got the one big decision wrong Saturday.

Sorry for pissing on your parade but it's a horrible game now. Money first, armchair followers second, real fans and football are way down the list. I can't say good luck as I wouldn't mean it. I'm old, I'm old school and I'm bitter. Be interesting what you think two months in though.

I said before the final if we go to extra time Sunderland will win but we’d gone on 70 mins
They are a very fit and obviously a well conditioned side so it seems the manager and his infrastructure is way ahead of ours
With the right recruitment I think they maybe the surprise of the three and make a fist of it

Congratulations lad, but when the inevitable happens, you’ll also have that PP target on your back.
I think we've recruited smartly TBF, admittedly there's some that have not cut it, Speakmans (DOF) done a fine job IMO. I can't really see the strategy changing, obvs will have to spend more though, just got to wait and see what happens.

I genuinely hope your ownership can cut the mustard, as any indecision at boardroom level would be catastrophic for your first season back in the big time. When we last got promoted our previous owner (the poorest prince in Saudi) shit himself and wanted out. The half hearted way he funded the team for a return to the Prem and the awful season that followed has had profound effect on many Blades fans to this day.

Aye there's been some bad bad owners of clubs, even when they're supposedly scrutinised.

I didn't go to any of the Premier League games last season so this was my reminder of VAR as a fan in the ground. Almost 2 mins celebrating like an idiot believing this was the year for the old fella next to me saying it's gone to VAR for offside it was the biggest turn of emotion.

Fully appreciate thst we all knew before a ball was kicked that VAR was in play but VAR isn't for the fans in the ground it's for tv watchers it's FIFA on a football pitch. The biggest reason we go to watch football is to see a goal celebrate a goal. Can't do that with VAR you just look a complete idiot.

Flip side what Villa would have given for VAR yesterday.. think that's karma .. my waych just stopped working 😀
would rather karma help us out rather than fuck villa over

The most bizarre moment of the day was Sunlun fans singing The Red Flag coming out of Wembley Park Station then sticking Reform stickers all over the place? Make your minds up lads.

For the most part they were an ok bunch though, I don’t begrudge them going up.

Will they stay up? It’s hard to answer without sounding bitter isn’t it?

I think they’ll struggle as we would have.

The problem now is that the ‘smaller’ clubs that you expect to compete with are actually well run and cash rich. Brighton, Fulham, Brentford, Bournemouth. Those teams make it a struggle to think of 3 teams a promoted side will finish above.

Good luck to Sunderland, but I think they’ll need it.

Having thought about it I’ve come to the obvious conclusion the PL didn’t want us going up. Ref gave goal, Lino didn’t flag, their players didn’t claim offside and went to take KO. They put ball on spot ready to KO and a shadowy figure pressed a button hotlines to the VAR team. Red light flashing a message went to ref. “You’ve made a mistake, go to the monitor and we’ll tell you what to say”.

Never forgiven us for Tevez embarrassment!

Sunderland in 6th didn’t deserve to get past coventry let alone us, it was manipulation by the illuminati but guaranteed they will be the darlings of the PL and pundits next season.
