I didn't feel bad for him.

He's getting paid fortunes to be shit at football. Infact not even shit, just to be a passenger.

Ryan One and Jevan Beattie are so raw and absolutely not ready for Championship football, but god almighty they have to be better than him by virtue of the defenders needing to at least have their kit washed after.
One created very good chances at home to Millwall and away at Boro - something we've barely done in any games this season.
He also had game time last season.
He clearly is ready for a squad place at our level and streets ahead of Cannon.

I have zero sympathy for Cannon. If he's getting that sort of reaction when he comes on then it's entirely down to him to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and change some minds. However, he comes across as spineless, poor technically and a bit dim. That's a toxic combination.

Actually... is the #7 shirt cursed? Since squad numbers were introduced in the second tier, before Cannon it was worn by Rhian Brewster (21/22 to 24/25), John Lundstram (17/18 to 20/21), Marc McNulty (16/17), Ryan Flynn (12/13 to 15/16), Will Hoskins & Nathaniel Mendez-Liang (11/12), Darius Henderson (08/09-11/12), Luton Shelton (06/07 to 07/08), Paul Ifill (05/06), Andy Liddell (03/04-04/05), Paul Shaw (01/02-03/04) and Michael Brown (00/01-03/04). Only Brown, Ifill and to an extent Flynn were any good for us. The rest veer between bang average, grossly overpaid and genuinely dislikeable...or all three (hello Darius Hendercunt).

Perhaps we jinx ourselves by frequently giving players who aren't right wingers the 7 shirt?

Don't think he's the type to respond to criticism, seems more like an 'arm round the shoulder' guy, make of that what you will.

Have to disagree on a good few names you've mentioned, Lundstrum, the twat that he was, had a blinding start to the Premier League. I actually quite liked Henderson when he played for us. I think he's one of those you hate if he's against you, he always put in a shift for us. Lastly, Andy Liddell, or Mr Bean as I called him as a kid, was a decent player coming towards the end of his career. I thought he was ok for us, definitely doesn't deserve to be remembered for being especially bad, scored a good goal against Villa in the FA cup. I was at the game, we played brilliantly but it was a very poor crowd and I remember thinking what a good game they missed!

Was so chuffed with the result I forgot to update everyone's favourite stat thread. So here they are, the numbers you've all been waiting for:

In the 1136 minutes Tom Cannon has been on the pitch for us since he joined in January 2025, we've collectively scored 11 goals. That's 1 goal per 103.3 minutes.
In that same time period we have collectively conceded 22 (1 goal per 51.6 mins).
Blades Goal Difference with Cannon on the pitch = -11
Tom Cannon has contributed 1 goal and 1 assist in those 1136 minutes.

A forensic thread that should include

'And Wilder bought him'

At every turn.

The lad shouldn;t be given any chance at all, to turn things round.

Our top experts have agreed he's 'shite', so rather than try and make the best of it, he is now #Officia;scapegoat.

We really have become a set of judgemental entitled wankers.

Same as they did with George Long. Ruined him. Because they can.

He's the wrong guy at entirely the wrong club but the decision maker is, apparently, blameless.

He’s not been made a scalegoat, he is demonstrably shite, this is last 365 days so will include some of time he was ‘good’ at Stoke.

Why should we have to wait years for a player to ‘come good’ after spending a fucking fortune on them just cause they’re approved by the cult leader? We spent 5 years trying to justify the Brewster fee and then he walked anyway.

After the game Saturday everyone was quick to judge how poor Cannon was in his 12 minute cameo.

Nobody is allowed to say how poor Campbell was in his 78 minutes though.

I cant work out if he is arrogant, thick or just has minimal care about his career.

If I were in his shoes playing for any professional football club where I'd had a really poor start and the fans were on my back I'd be:
  • Putting in the running, to close down and harry opponents on the ball. Someone like Cresswell did this and it got the crowd going.
  • Putting my body into the defenders now and again. As Roy Keane has said "Sometimes you just need to smash a few people".
  • Giving the players behind me an earful if I'm making runs and no one is finding me.

I’ll quite happily tell anyone that will listen how shite Campbell is and Stoke fans warned us about this when we signed him.

I have to say I’m a bit conflicted - I’ve tried to defend him, god knows I’ve tried, and I agree it’s classic United scapegoating - but he’s not exactly helping himself is he?

I suppose you could (just about) still argue that he’s not had a consistent run in the team etc but he’s got to start showing something soon otherwise he needs to be loaned/sold in Jan.

Cut our losses before it becomes a sunk cost fallacy.

This is nonsense. People have been commenting all season on how badly Campbell has been playing.

There's definitely an element of scapegoating given he's barely on the pitch most weeks, but as pointed out he's hardly helping himself either. Other players deserve to carry more blame for the current predicament but he's an easy target.

I'd love him to come good as he can obviously finish a bit but at the moment he's showing nothing to warrant being picked above Oné.
